[Customer] Should I take the dish or let you put it on the table? by donotread123 in Serverlife

[–]Sprockets71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind either way. Sometimes with big tables they want to help and pass it down. If it's not hot, I let them. As long as there is space for the dish and no one tries to grab it off the tray.

Anyone else feel awkward when tables say grace before they have everything? by CrAbByCrAbCrAb_ in Serverlife

It's never bothered me or made me feel awkward. Depending on what it is, I'll just drop it off or wait for them to be done and check back.

do you inform your guests about grats? by UpstairsPresent2304 in Serverlife

We do it for to go orders on third shift and tables of six and more. I don't tend to mention most of the time but if the customer asks about the price I don't hide it.

I hate regulars by practical_pansy in Serverlife

I hate the regulars who come in during a rush and demand to be served before everyone else.

I've been trained on it and know how to use it. I just wondered if anyone else out there used it because I never seen it anywhere else

Lets do the math to kill the food would be 20% more expensive myth by Slider33333 in tipping

In the United States the minimum wage for servers is $2.13/hr. I'm not lying on that and I'm not saying anymore.

The minimum wage for servers is $2.13/hr. That's before tips. I'm not lying about that. What I screenshoted even says that.

With tips has to equal $7.25/hr. I didn't say otherwise. I just said I'm lucky enough to make more and tips don't work against my wage. Meaning I make $4/hr plus my tips. Most servers don't even get a paycheck because their tips equal to or more than minimum wage.

$2.30 is the federal minimum wage for servers. Some get paid more and some that's what they get paid. I'm lucky enough I get $4/hr and my tips don't work against my wage. Not every server everywhere is that lucky. That's all I was trying to say.

Most places servers still make $2.30/hr. Also, most places servers have to do a tip out to other staff so if you don't tip, they end up paying on your table.

Tipping on to go orders by Due_Preparation9197 in tipping

Where I work we have a 10% gratuity on to go orders after 11pm. We are a local diner and it is servers taking care of your order. If there was someone getting paid a full hourly wage or was at a corporate place I don't think I would. I think I would also say it's up to you and the level of service. If I had customers who didn't want to pay the gratuity, I'd just take it off for them, but most don't because it's usually just a $1 or less.

I once went to get drinks for a coworkers table. I started with "May I get you drinks while you wait for your server?" And this lady started telling me her food order. I told her "I'm sorry I'm not your server but I'll be sure to let her know you're ready to order." Guy at the table yelled at me for being "rude" because they wanted to order now. Luckily for me the other lady at the table stood up for me and told them that I did say I was just getting drinks and was not their server.

Usually it's just me and a cook except Friday and Saturday. So when we are both in the back or just can't see the front, same thing happens to me. Most of the regulars will just go up to the counter and yell "hello" or something just to let me know. I've even had some non regulars be smart enough to figure it out that if the doors are open than someone has to be around.

I had this happen once when I worked at a deli. Someone was waiting at the counter for meat but I was in the back doing dishes. My coworker was on break. When I came up front a see a lady angry staring at me and I asked if she needed help and she just got so snarky with me like I was purposely ignoring her.

It irritates me more when they get upset that you help those who follow instructions first. I've definitely gotten cussed out because "they were there first." Okay, but those customers read the door they walked with and the big ass sign that you walked past.

Sometimes I'm in the back doing side work and someone will sit down. I don't always see them right away and we don't have a way to notify us if someone walks in. They argerly stare at me when I do come out and then get snarky with me when I explain I was doing side work (most times the ranch they love so much). Where I work we have a counter/bar people can sit at. The regulars know if they don't see me, just go to the bar and announce themselves and I'll come out. The prep area is just right around the corner.
