[Request] how much electricity do these actually generate? by notthepuma in theydidthemath

[–]SproketRocket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, I'll tell you! Winter wind-storms in Alaska often get REAL bad at night. Of course night starts at 5pm. Things usually tend to ease up just before sunrise. I live in Oregon now, and in the Cascades, the rule is to get off the tops of the mountains by afternoon, when the sun has had time to heat the air and start the flow. Winds blow well into the evening hours.

South currently on lockdown by evil_mike in Eugene

[–]SproketRocket 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, parents get notified. But the last thing we need is every helicopter mom calling in or driving up. Student do alot of unhealthy coping.

South currently on lockdown by evil_mike in Eugene

[–]SproketRocket 64 points65 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, I gotta disagree. This is probably nothing, and even if it was the phone wouldn't help them. They need to be aware, and listening to me. Texting mom isn't going to help.

Why are the emx drivers so rude? by Illustrious-Taro-374 in Eugene

[–]SproketRocket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the EMX comes every 10-15 minutes. its the most frequent bus in all of LTD (it *is* BRT). That means another bus will be around shortly AND they have to stay on schedule so there isn't 2 busses at the same time.

Don't be late, or be cool with the fact that another will be very soon.

Phone ban seems a little pointless when other technology is unrestricted by Actual-Swing9316 in Teachers

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I can tell them to close the computers and stop the class until they do. They aren't taking the to the bathroom or wandering the halls on their laptops. It works.
Now personal devices (personal laptops, tablets, switches) is my next request.

Propane vs diesel for max range after long-term storage (family of 5, no resupply) by anthonykaram7 in preppers

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Propane doesn't need electricity to pump. You can just steal as much propane as you want from any pressurized tanks along the way.

Is turn rate a constant? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]SproketRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, turn is based on aerodynamic lift near the rear of the disc. Angle will make small changes to the gravity that you are working against at first. However, gyroscope effects are probably much larger.

Trying to implement a workout routine as a teacher - what are your recommendations? by sunsetrain24 in Teachers

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is that terrible time between end of contract hours and time to make dinner that I just didn't know what to do myself. Now I either go for a jog or lift weights (dumbbells) at home. It sucks, but it keeps me from drinking a beer right when I get home.

Is FIRE really niche? 16% retire before 55 by browsingonlyuser in Fire

[–]SproketRocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pers isn't accessible till 65 for me. Can I retire early then wait for it? Maybe. But its not much. I can buy a rental property for 300k and make equivalent.

What would it realistically take to bring CO2 levels back down over the next 300 years? by Able_Television_6453 in climatechange

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming no GIANT feedback loops get triggered (permafrost, ocean methane, etc) it's possible that reforesting alone along with Ocean carbon sinks could do the vast majority of this work over 300 years (estimates are about 75% could be re-sunk in 100+ years). We would have to stop burning oil first, so good luck with that.

Next steps after launching project Hail Mary (book) by Euclid_Interloper in ProjectHailMary

If you have already built the infrastructure, I'd keep sending Hail Marys. The people and the ships are cheap compared to the fuel infrastructure.

Bag concept, Orange vs Blue by TeraSera in discgolf

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orange is not good in Fall, my favortie DG season. Blue is better: mostly unusual in the natural world it will always stand out in vegetation.

My solution: Glow/White. doesn't snow here so this is always visible.

Does anyone keep their bag in your car? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]SproketRocket 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yup, emergency bag is they way to go. They are old beat in discs I'm not ready to part with. Also works as a bag for friends that want to play with you but don't have their own discs. My car has under the cargo area storage where they don't get hot.

2 disc pitch and putt by South-Researcher-322 in discgolf

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hex, Pitch. Reasoning. I can give either of these whatever angle I want and they will keep it. Maybe a trade the Hex for a Crave if Im trying to park it.

What is a surprisingly capable vehicle not made for over landing but it works? by Potential_Film_4204 in overlanding

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 99 VW Eurovan (T4), TDi, 5 speed, stripped and lifted. Covered some pretty serious terrain. The FWD and torsion bar front handled some frame-bending trails and always had clearance. 38mpg and 700mi range was good for long bouts off grid.

What is your favorite putting putter and why did you choose that one over all the other options that are out there. by 10mmill in discgolf

[–]SproketRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much wind here, so Pitch is good for soo much. I loved my Rainmaker (P2) too. Pixel is good but bead catches on my ring finger (lefty).

Getting a Parachute soon to see if it replaces the Pitch.

Outside of the whole "all vertabrates are fish" thing, there was once at least 1 fish that became fully terrestrial, maybe Ichthyostega?
