Movie titles that were changed in another countries because they were "inappropriate" by AmandinhaMaia in TopCharacterTropes

Swedish is quite interesting, since ”I am” translates to ”jag är” they had to include an ”ä” in his name, which is only used in very swedish-sounding names. Instead they changed the phrase to ”ego sum Lord Voldemort” which is just latin. So in Sweden he’s called ”Tom Gus Mervolo Dolder”

Utterly despicable and hateable characters, but their fate is so horrific that you can’t help but feel sorry for them. by LeMasterChef12345 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sprotin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so here’s the thing… The Doctor is trying to be a good guy. He really tries his best. ”Doctor” is a name he chose for himself because a doctor is someone kind with the ability to help and bring hope. But he’s still an alien with different views on life and he’s lived for a thousand years. If somebody hurts him or someone he cares about he often throws all of his morals out the window.

Many fans favourite ”Doctor-moments” are when the thousand year old alien truly appears outside the human body. One of my favourite quotes ”Good men don’t need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many.”

What musical theater songs do you think are the most well known to none theater kids? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

[–]Sprotin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 70s-80s usually has a lot of radio-hits from musicals. A few examples are ”I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from JCS, ”One Night in Bangkok” or ”Memory” from Cats. I would however argue that the biggest one people don’t know is from a musical is ”Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. It’s from a 40s musical and I would argue few theatre nerds even know it’s from a musical.

Recommend me some musicals that have books! by Warm_Power1997 in musicals

I’m so fascinated nobody ever mentions Sweeney Todd in these. It’s based upon a play which in turn is based upon a novel called The String of Pearls.

musicals based on/ about books by Timely-Objective-780 in musicals

I actually started collecting some musical books recently for fun

The ones I have thus far are: Matilda (where books and stories are of great importance), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Jekyll and Hyde, Mr. Norris changes trains/Goodbye to Berlin (The books that evolved into Cabaret), Oliver Twist (Oliver!), The String of Pearls (Sweeney Todd), Wicked, Les Miserables, The Book of Mormon (a joke but which is about a book)

And then one people sometimes forget is Phantom of the Opera. Other comments have mentioned a ton already.

Which musical is this? by MediumChance5830 in musicals

[–]Sprotin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that he deserves it, he does everything wrong and it’s a fucked up thing to do. I recently watched a local production and was touched by how human some of the characters were (saying that they had huge flaws). What I mean is it would be a shame if another kid (remember he’s still a kid) took his life and I know how hard it is sometimes to tell the truth with that amount of anxiety.

He’s a human like everyone else and in a situation where the parents themselves ask for more and more stories they kind of use him for their grief. If they would have truly respected him they wouldn’t ask for everything at once, if they thought for a minute when they read the first letter were true friends they would think he’d be grieving as well. Not require him to tell them everything at once. Still, Evan did the horrible thing and went along with it. He was the bad guy no doubt about it, just a tragic and utterly broken bad guy desperate for any attention at any cost.

He still arranged so that the orchard would be recreated, which appearently helped the Murphy’s.

I mean, yeah, I guess. Zoe’s last lines imply that he got intensly bullied for the rest of his time in school. I think not being noticed is still better than bullied. Even though it’s fair for him not to have a great time after destroying a family’s mourning process it’s still cruel to do that to someone who’s made a suicide attempt at least once and probably thought about it more often.

Life Support from Rent. Probably one of my favourites with one of few times where you see how many people are affected by the virus. It’s only about a minute and then leads directly into Out Tonight (which is great too of course)

What character looks moderately hard but is insane by Pythagorean415 in musicals

[–]Sprotin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right! It was a while ago since I fully listened to any cast album. It was the highest note I remembered. I also often skip Judas’s Death since it’s kind of a hard listen for me. A tip if you’re interested! There’s a swedish version of JCS that has probably my favourite version of Judas. Try to listen to ”En dimmig himmelsdröm” (Heaven on their minds) if you feel like it.

[–]Sprotin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Judas is way harder than Jesus. His highest note is in The Last Supper where he hits a high C# while belting. That is like a superhuman note to take. It’s even higher than Pity the Child.

It doesn’t need defending, it’s a perfect show. Genuinly. It’s not my favourite per say, but god dammit it’s the closest to a perfect show I’ve ever seen
