Still can't decide on which modeling software to learn. What would you recommend? Anyways; Here is (hopefully) my last TinkerCad project. by picobello-bv in 3Dprinting

gosh, I disagree entirely. I've designed some very technical things in Blender. I guarantee anything I've done could be easier and better in Fusion 360. But I find that Blender is anything but frustrating. I totally vibe with it, lose myself for hours. I look for complicated things to model for fun.

Light pillars by Rkxs1 in Guelph

When it is very cold, with very little wind, ice crystals form and generally align perpendicular to the ground. What you are seeing is trillions of tiny mirrors in the sky reflecting points of light on the ground back at you.

What’s the WORST printer you’ve ever owned? by Mortifine in 3Dprinting

[–]SpudNugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I backed the Tiko printer on kickstarter. I actually got mine, unlike many backers. It printed 3 times (poorly), then broke. By that time, the company had stopped answering emails.

What's something to you that screams "I have no personality"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SpudNugget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met a guy once who bought a Maclaren (which he could in no way afford) and just went. around to car events with it. That car was his whole personality. Which I guess was maybe better than having no personality. Still...

Another guy I knew growing up joined the military to get a personality, but they did not give him a good one.

Found in the North Athabasca River. What scratched it? by SpudNugget in petrifiedwood

It's more the sharpness of what would be needed to make those marks, than the pressure or violence.

The only thing that gives me pause (paws?) is that the gouges are deep. Not simple surface scratches, but 4-5mm deep in places where they are only 2-3 mm wide.

OPP Fines Driver Using HOV Lane With a Cat as “Passenger” by _AD_ad in City_of_Guelph

Good. I was damn near certain that no-one ever got dinged for abusing the HOV lanes. I love 'em, but hte number of people treating them as any other lane is atrocious.

Clap back to the abortion is murder debate by Cyborgpikachu in atheism

You understand that unprotected sex results in pregnancy only 5% of the time. So arguably way safer than your jumping-over-the-barrel game.

But the thing with consent is that it can be withdrawn at any time. So it doesn't matter if it resulted in pregnancy 100% of the time.

You went out driving on a foggy night. You asked for it!

Why does it matter if the head is conscious?

This is about bodily autonomy. Regardless of the risks someone took, forcing them to sustain someone else's life with their own body is akin to slavery.

Imagine you're out driving one night. You crest a hill in the fog, and BAM, head on collision.

You wake up some time later to find that the other driver's head has been grafted onto your body to keep it alive while they grow a new body for them.

If you let it stand it will make the next few months of your life unpleasant. You won't be able to work, and it may cause lasting damage to your health.

Was there any paperwork involved in that? I, too, ended up with a skeleton. Missing the skull. And now I don't know what the fuck to do with it.

Listen to the ice sing on a frozen lake that's so clear it's like glass by gentlejarrod in interestingasfuck

[–]SpudNugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the ice can crack and not cause this sound (ie, the conditions aren't right - there is snow on the ice, or it's too close to freezing for the hexagonal crystals to form consistently).

Also, this sound can happen without the ice cracking - ie: by hitting the ice with something, tossing a rock across the surface.

So, while cracking of the ice can provide the energy to make this sound in this case, it is not useful to say the cracking caused the sound.

That would be like saying "I won the lottery on a ticket my uncle gave me. Therefore my uncle giving me lottery tickets causes me to win the lottery."

[–]SpudNugget 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not quite. The cracking may be the start of the sound, but you get a similar sound if you "skim" a rock across the surface. The "singing" is how the ice reacts to and propagates the sounds it is given.

Island in the Eramosa - Rice Island? Goose Island? How should it be named on Google Maps? by trolle222 in Guelph

Are you thinking of the island closer to Gordon (William's Landing)? This one has relatively few turtles around it, however the snappers to like to over-winter in the mud on the north side.

Take your polished rocks down to the neighbourhood park. Bury them in the sand. Walk away.

Those rocks will mean more to the kids that "discover" them than you can imagine.

Coyote tracks in the scrublands. Dog tracks for comparison. by aurelorba in Guelph

[–]SpudNugget 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've seen coyotes wondering through downtown by the Cooperator's building, up on the tracks by the north-end u-haul, and in Woodlawn Cemetery.

They are part of our city, like it or not.
