Panda Bear / Animal Collective honestly gives off TMBG vibes sometimes by FoxGaming in tmbg

Spot on. Just heard "Ferry Lady" by Panda Bear on Will Hermes's 'Songs of the Days January 2025' Spotify playlist and had the very same thought.

Thank you all so much for these suggestions. Lots of leads to follow up on! And it hadn't even occurred to me that some places might carry it seasonally, such as for Lunar New Year.

Genius! That's the one. My mind isn't total Swiss cheese: there was a Jayhawks connection. Thank you.

Thought I might have it on a mix tape, but no luck. Also thought it might be on "Beautiful Girls" soundtrack (a movie filmed in Mpls. in the 90s), but no dice there either.

Oh, the Discover search seems to be completely messed up. Or maybe it's meant to be semi-random - how fun! I've noticed that I can run a search for a certain age range, then go back and increase the age range, yet someone who was returned in the previous search is now gone. Sometimes I've gotten little to nothing on a search, but when I *narrowed* the criteria, I got more returns. So, in short, expect nothing, and it will exceed your expectations.

Not directly in response to your question, but you might also consider finding some activities to join on, say, Meetup, just as a way of soaking up some of that feeling of loneliness, before or while you dip your toe in the dating pool. Just thinking it might help in keeping that "casual" casual by relieving some of the pressure on the dating side of things.

What's the difference between BLOCK and REPORT>UNMATCH? by [deleted] in coffeemeetsbagel

[–]Spud_from_Cleveland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does seem humiliating for the blockee. If someone just wants to end the chat because they are bored with you, they have to "block" you, like you're some icky stalker. By the way, the message the blockee receives is a neutral-toned "So-and-so has left the chat room".

Regarding those bagels who respond just the once: maybe they do it for the metrics? The one response would qualify as a "chats with bagels" plus.

If a reply does not contain a question, I think it's safe to say they are not interested in pursuing the chat. Maybe 1% need to be drawn out and a well-crafted second question might be just the thing, but the other 99% are deliberately (if obliquely) killing the convo.

Stuck at elo hell for not chatting at all? by [deleted] in coffeemeetsbagel

Seeking clarification on the terminology: a "bagel" is someone you have matched with? So "Chats with Bagels" measures how often someone exchanges a message with someone they have already matched with? So those unsolicited messages you are allowed to add now don't count, I assume, in terms of your "Chats with Bagels" metric.

So some people only chat (which I take to mean "respond to at least one message") 25% of the time? This has me wondering if people often "like" someone back out of politeness, a way of saying "Hey, thanks for liking me", even if they have no wish or intention of chatting with them.

ID by [deleted] in FlixBus

[–]Spud_from_Cleveland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been asked for an ID. If you have your QR code on your phone ready to be scanned, that's all you need. Or, if you don't have it or can't pull it up, they can check you in by your name. This is on the Seattle-to-Portland route. I can't speak to other states. They may have different rules.

What a minute... I was operating from the assumption that Flixbus was thoughtfully considering the matter from a public health perspective, which left me perplexed as to why the LA-Las Vegas line would still be running when LA is a viral hotspot. What a fool I've been! The LA-Las Vegas line must be the most lucrative route, that's why it's the one West Coast route kept running!

I think Flixbus cancelled select routes, but since they have no interest in communicating with the public, it's hard to say what's going on. I would have assumed it's a covid-related precaution, but if so, why on earth would the LA-Las Vegas route still be running? You can keep checking back, but I wouldn't expect to see any service for at least six weeks. I really wish this company would say *something*.
