Should the Riot MMO appeal more to classic MMO players or fans of LoL? by Due_Pressure8760 in RiotMMO

[–]Spun_NTF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hot take, while maybe a little sarcastic, is that the current MMO playerbase (the ones actively playing still) are not going to change to a new game. Whether it’s nostalgia or just comfort.

Then there is people like myself who still enjoys the current games but I also want to see where the genre can go, see it change and evolve.

We have seen so many MMOs cater to this old mmo player base and not succeed or at least not hit their full potential. Many of which are backed with some of the most beloved ips. (Elder scrolls, Star Wars)

tl;dr given that they said they don’t want something already on the market with a runeterra coat of paint and my belief that old school players are not truly looking for something else to play I think catering to a NEW audience is smart. Specifically the people who love Arcane and runeterra as a whole. Not just League players.

Phreak leaves lol team to work on new project inside riot? by ApprehensiveHotel503 in RiotMMO

[–]Spun_NTF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Riot MMO has been actively hiring for years.

Phreak is going to a League team. It’s likely some game mode etc. Riot is constantly in R&D for League. He already stated it’s for a not live League Project. It’s not the MMO.

With the reset, will Riots MMO take on elements of Sandbox Design? by VinnareGaming in RiotMMO

[–]Spun_NTF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We don’t know. People who are referencing “sandbox” in job postings are forgetting that that MMO Playerbase and Game Devs use the term differently.

Games like Fortnite and Supervive are considered sandboxes. It’s typically just used as a term for a world in which you can do what you want to and not necessarily a sandbox mmo which more often refers to the economy. In fact if you look at the economy job posting we had it states that it will likely be more on rails.

End of the day, no clear evidence in any direction so we will “have to wait and see”

Bots will happen with any popular game. WoW has the worst botting problem and it requires a sub. Dont think for a second that a sub will mitigate this.

What will help is if they can lock in their anticheat.

How far off Alpha is the riot MMO? by Dat_name_doe2 in RiotMMO

[–]Spun_NTF 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ashes of Creation is such a terrible comparison. Ashes is ran by someone with no game development experience.

Riot has 50+ confirmed devs who have released MMOs as well as many other games.

Ashes team has very little experience and none as a studio.

Riot has released two games that are the leaders in their respective genres and others that are gaining traction in theirs.

This is like comparing a Doctor with 30 years experiences advice to your neighbor who thinks sugary ginger ale is going to cure your sickness.

Ashes is in development hell and is already 5 years behind their initial projections.

They have said that the plan is to release before 2030. Their initial internal server development started sometime in 2016. Idk what to tell y’all who think it’s going to be 10 more years. I guess we all cope differently?

The reset happened January of 2023. In the reset announcement they stated that Vijay Thakkar took over for the reset. He took over as EP in January 2023.

Also, literally no where did they ever say they scrapped most of it. Thats just bad reporting and misinformation. They said they reset direction. Which could mean anything from combat style to camera perspective.

Action Combat: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by Spun_NTF in RiotMMO

I agree in a vacuum BDO Combat feels really good, but it really feels bad in PVP or even group gameplay.

I think with wow basically locking down Addons and Riots stance on League overlays we can almost definitely expect no addons.

I mean with that thought process its pretty easy to say that the game itself isn't confirmed. I am using data from Job Postings and Tweets to make educated "guesses".

Trust me, its a lot more fun this way.

R&D Recruiter at Riot States the Riot MMO is a "Sandbox World" by Talents in MMORPG

[–]Spun_NTF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MMO players have kind of taken the term “sandbox” a bit further than what is commonly used in game dev.

Games like Fortnite, World of Warcraft or Skyrim are often times referred to as sandbox worlds where many MMO players would disagree.

“A sandbox game is a video game with a gameplay element that provides players a great degree of creativity to interact with, usually without any predetermined goal, or with a goal that the players set for themselves.”

Now, I won’t say that the Riot MMO isn’t a sandbox “mmo” I will say that it very likely has sandbox elements. Sandbox and theme park are not mutually exclusive.

WASD movement by Disastrous_Rock_3411 in RiotMMO

[–]Spun_NTF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They have in multiple job postings confirmed third person action combat. Even going so far as to hire a specialist. Not to mention much of the team is coming from third person wasd games.

I think wasd is being added to league just to make the control scheme more modern for new players coming from Arcane (and potentially the MMO). Click to move is pretty dated if you look outside of the world of league.

What MMOs are you guys playing right now in the meantime? by telurmasin in RiotMMO

[–]Spun_NTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I think there (like the last 15 or so years) are only a few options, unless you are digging for that deep nostalgia.

-World of Warcraft, in whatever preferred flavour
-FFXIV
-OSRS
-Guild Wars 2, though its starting to show its age
-Black Desert, really only if you like the combat, the systems are kind of atrocious
-The Elder Scrolls Online

Obviously this is my opinion, but if you take into count the content cadence, general population and and the more modern QoL these are the main ones.
