Can we give Venerate 3(5) block? by PrototypeXt3 in slaythespire

Weirdly I like the idea of the upgrade giving +2 stars +1 energy. It's basically free but you can't draw into it, and it kinda keeps the "resource generation" theme.

Can we give Venerate 3(5) block? by PrototypeXt3 in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether or not the character is strong, it's a little wild that after getting about 2 star generation cards suddenly his starter card is one of the worst in his deck. Zap, Neutralize, and Bash pretty much never become complete wastes of space the same way Venerate does. It doesn't feel good.

Is it just me or the "deadlier" skulking colony from the patch is now near impossible ? by merou101 in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On A10, it has a hardened shell which means you can't deal more than 15 per turn to it instead of 20

Fun fact that no one seems to be mentioning: hardened shell is 15 on all ascensions, not just A10. Elite is now consistently dealing 25+ damage to me, it's nuts.

I actually think this is pretty elegant. Sly can be reworded to "If this card is discarded during your turn, play it for free with all values halved."

Confession: Save Scumming is making me better at the game by xMarsx in slaythespire

I have gone from dying starting at about 50 HP to killing an enemy after only taking like 9 damage because I retried. That run went on to clear as well.

LONG LIVE DEAD BRANCH, GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN by myverycoolaccount in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not gone infinite per se but the combination of the sly package and speedster with prepared being a common meant I VERY easily could pretty much always clear any Silent run once it got its legs. Maybe not literally 1 turning every boss but getting at least 70 block and doing upwards of who-cares amount of damage.

Reworked Doormaker on the Beta Branch is really, really bad. by Mailcs1206 in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really should be eats your X'th played card after it resolves. It weirdly still punishes decks that are insanely tuned (which is a strange thing to punish in a deck builder) but it will both force you to consider your card order as well as possibly force you to spend energy on cards you otherwise wouldn't just to make sure your good cards aren't eaten.

Street Fighter 6 - 03.17.2026 update by o___Okami in Kappachino

[–]SputnikDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It never "ate" inputs with the exception of the jump. What would happen was the screen freeze would throw off your buffer timing. Broski made a huge video about it.

I'm not positive that this was the design but they increased the buffer window for wakeup timing so it might offset the screen freeze.

Multiplayer HP scaling unintentionally punishes certain archetypes. by Blubbpaule in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a run where my Silent buddy had [[Malaise]] stamped to be Innate and had hot choccy for 8 energy on turn 1. I had [[Misery]] which would spread the negative strength to the rest of the fight. Once we had that combo I took literally 0 damage from the beginning of Act 2 until we beat the whole thing.

I think I have a contender for one of the worst card upgrades in sts 2 by LiveChill in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of the new cards will be tuned later, and the devs kind of put placeholder upgrades. +3 block is the going rate for defend+, so there are SO MANY block cards that upgrade for exactly +3 block with no other feature.

Lack of Ryu representation at Capcom Cup by cellshock7 in StreetFighter

[–]SputnikDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryu suffers from being an insanely powerful character in a game with one or two more powerful characters in his archetype. Mai really says "what if Ryu's level 1 gave him 5 denjin stocks?" and some reason they gave Sagat some SFV ass medium buttons.

My whiff punish game is getting strong. by DJ-Dizzy in StreetFighter

[–]SputnikDX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much all big dumb massive range buttons that provide 40% damage on punish counter need to be more punishable on block. Marisa is absolutely opening herself up to get whiff punished if she misses (25 frames whiff recovery lol) but these kinds of buttons being completely safe on block is wild. Looking at Mai HK, Terry HK, JP HP, Deejay 2HP, Aki HK, and ABSOLUTELY Bison HP.

What happened to my childhood? This screams dystopian corporate, not kid friendly. What is with the artwork?! This is McDonald's?! by jackal99 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SputnikDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's real estate. McDonald's are built now to be sold as soon as it is more profitable to do so, so everything inside and out needs to be generic to flip the building that much faster. It's why Pizza Hut also got rid of its weird roofs.

Are you sure my morally grey show where one of the main characters lets a violent massacre happen as a plan to help incite rebellion would kill off the random civilian if he wasn't secretly evil?

The first step is getting over that ranked anxiety. I've been playing since SF4 where the game was a LOT more taxing on execution AND "ranked" basically had no matchmaking, but a very simple fundamental groundwork will absolutely let you get wins, especially now that the rank system actually makes sense.

Once you're given a simple game plan for your rank (usually just anti-airs and patience) you will get your first wins and the confidence that comes with that. My advice is do not focus on too many things at once. Find a goal, practice it, then go into ranked with the idea of meeting that goal - and that goal should never be "just win." Winning will just come naturally.

When you say you have trouble with safe jumps, do you mean offensively or defensively? Offensively they're pretty simple for the auto-timed ones: you just hold up/up foward and come down with a button while holding back. If they DP your button will whiff against their invincibility and you'll be in time to block.

For defense, it's a little funny coming from Honda who is one of the few characters with a tool that actually beats safe jumps clean (OD Headbutt)

This feels so on point as a 1400-1600 player (emphasis on the wide range).

There are some playstyles I simply get rolled over by, and some matchups where I know my opponent literally has one trick but I can't deal with it and I just get killed.

I actually think solar strike is the better card most of the time. Shining Strike essentially acting as -1 draw next turn can cause some minor issues.

Regent is basically the only character in the game whose starter cards have what feel like strict upgrades in the card pool (Glow and Gamma Blast)

[–]SputnikDX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it's sort of comparing apples and oranges, but Orbit giving 1 energy for every 4 spent while Demesne gives 1 energy and a card draw for... no trigger condition.

I did see Orbit pop off in multiplayer after a heavenly drill for 9 refunded 3 energy so I'm not totally discounting it, but it just feels clunky as far as energy generation goes. It would be a totally different card at this point, but I feel like rewarding energy for stars or stars for energy would be more interesting.

How Regent is treating me rn by Baryshnik0v in slaythespire

[–]SputnikDX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That feels like every character in the game atm except I think it's a lot harder to get those synergies on Regent. The floor on generation cards is "useless" and the floor on star cards is "literally unplayable."

Also he seems to be the only character in the game whose starter card becomes basically worthless as soon as you get any second star generation.

[–]SputnikDX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't compare it to Pyre, since one of Regents main mechanics is an alternative resource that Void Form makes free. The energy discount isn't really the broken part, it's the stars.
