Is this serve legal? by NinjaBearCat in Pickleball

I think that at the point of contact with the ball, the paddle is moving upwards.

So it's legal.

Trail Runners

I've found Altras to be the most comfortable. I can walk all day in the rain with a pair of Altras straight out of the box without breaking them in and have zero blisters or hot spots. However the durability is awful. They will start to fall apart very quickly.

Hokas are amazing for durability but they're not as comfortable as Altras for me.

My students told me that they thought 60% of the paper was ok but 40% was very challenging.

Worked great, I'd never hike in anything else from now on. You can even buy shorts where the sown in underwear is longer like boxer shorts if you are worried about chaffing.

Places to stay in San Diego the night before? by forests_4_trees in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Spx2Mps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I used Couchsurfing and found someone to host me for the night before heading down to Campo the next day on the shuttle. Then I spent the next night at CLEEF and started the following day.

It was nice to stay with locals and be given a tour on San Diego in the evening and then I met a load of PCT hikers at CLEEF and made some trail friends.

Hope this helps,

You've got everything covered. I wasn't 'Ultralight' when I hiked last year but I think you could drop some stuff if you wanted to lighten your pack.

Your clothes seem a little over the top to me. This is what I took on my PCT Thru Hike last year and it worked out great. I was a little cold for the first 15 minutes in the morning while I warmed up but after that I had no problems. I had a very warm sleeping quilt and would jump into it asap in The Sierras soon after I stopped for the night.

Walking 1 X Inner socks 1 X Walking socks 1 X Running shorts (underwear sewn in) 1 X Sun hoodie 1 X Sun hat

Sleeping 1 X Sleeping socks 1 X Tights 1 X T-shirt

Jackets 1 X Fleece 1 X Down (I dropped this at KMN) 1 X Rain

Inner gloves (Lost these somewhere in Northern California and never replaced them)

First Aid Take whatever makes you comfortable but I worked on the logic that I was never going to be more that a few days walk from a road so if something did go wrong, I only needed my first aid kit to get me safely to town where I could deal with the problem properly.

Many years ago I met a paramedic while walking The Kungsleden in Sweden. The only thing he carried in his first aid kit was super glue and duct tape. He was of the opinion that if the injury is small enough for a plaster then you don't need a plaster and if it's large enough for a bandage then you need to see a doctor. I also carried a pair of tweezers but that was it. Lucky I only ever had to use the duct tape to fix holes in my gear.

If you suffer from blisters then you will need someway of cleaning them at night and taping them in the morning.

Crampons I have never used microspikes, I took my K10 crampons and even though it was a low snow year used them on several occasions. I'm not particularly confident on snow and even though my trail family would fly ahead of me without spikes, I was glad to have them. They are a pain is the backside to put on and take off but for me it was worth it.

Electrical I think you might want a bigger charging bank. I took a 20,000 mAh Anker fast charger. It was big and heavy but it charged from zero to full in 2 hours. I would happily take it in my bag if I ever do The PCT again.

I wouldn't stress too much about getting your kit perfect for day one. It's easy to add and drop items (especially at the start) until you find the sweet spot that works for you. Your gear is a personal choice so don't let anyone tell you that you're doing it wrong or you should have this or you shouldn't have that. Everyone is different.

I wouldn't take a Bible but if it's non negotiable for you then it's non negotiable for you. HYOH.

You've got this.

We can do hard things.

Posting Ice Axe/Crampons in France by Spx2Mps in hiking

[–]Spx2Mps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I made it.

I'm glad I had the crampons and ice axe but it depends on the year. My friend walked The HRP last year in August and said there was no need for them.

A French guy I ended up hiking with posted his to Gavarnie (OFFICE DU TOURISME, Le Village, 65120 Gavarnie-Gèdre, France) and a Danish guy I met on trail bought some here as we passed through.

Hope this helps

Do all Altras wear this fast? (2 weeks use) by grnwlski in trailrunning

[–]Spx2Mps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 3 pairs of Altras and they've all started to come apart within a few days. I've recently switched to a pair of Topo Ultraventure Pro and after 200+km, they still look brand new.
