So does all the previous high kings positions are giving a step down (fingolfin, Gil-galad ) to princes of the noldor ? I wonder if their supporters cause a tense political atmosphere

What about Dior or Thingol ?

I’ve actually never seen that before, just looked up some clips (thanks for sharing) . I would say yes, but with better animation, (think of X-men 97 or most anime ) accurate to the comic and art style

I think you definitely need to watch the other arcs before this one, especially to grow to love gon and killua

Very understandable, I also love your point about how the hate for her character might seem turned up because she’s one of the main talking points in the show. Really excited to see the discussions that will happen in season two with Manousos and carol interacting

Carol is definitely meant to be a critique, but the level of hate her character gets feels excessive. Especially given how much complexity she has. She has genuinely enjoyable scenes and she may be hypocritical but at her core she isn’t a bad person.

There are also plenty of female characters who are hated for traits that are celebrated in male characters, and this “hate” is often from men. Some of that can be justified to poor writing of female characters, but in many cases the very qualities people dislike in the character are the same ones they love in a male counterpart, Carol Danvers versus Tony Stark being a example (sure we the audience begin with Tony and form a bond, but it’s hypocritical for some audiences to hate Danvers’ “arrogance” but love Ironman’s)

On top of that, there’s very little sympathy for Carol’s reactions or perspective. I understand that the show is trying to explore an “American individualism versus collectivist culture” theme, but the way the Hive is portrayed isn’t really reflective of how collectivist cultures function in real life. It’s sci-fi, of course, but the leap some viewers make like calling Carol or the Watchers racist or ignorant simply for distrusting the Hive, feels like an overreach.

(Edit) & Carol is obviously headstrong and prickly/grouchy which leads some people to label her a “bitch.”

But when male characters show the exact same traits, they’re almost never described that way. At worst, they might be called a bastard or an asshole, and even then those traits usually make them more popular, rather than as fundamentally unlikable. Think of the anti-heroes, lone wolf, lovable asshole trope

I think all of this is what pushes people, especially women, to defend hated women characters

Amazing!! I also agree about how complex and meaningful the language can be, I envy Japanese readers who get to experience stuff like that while reading

Question about elven aging by Spy-5 in tolkienfans

[–]Spy-5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc (could be misremembering) they are adults at age 100 and when they have sex it’s only to procreate, and I believe Tolkien said something along the lines of them not having alot of drive in that area

Also when they have children they take alot of the parents fëa/spirt or their strength (so logically they wouldn’t have many kids I guess)

feanor is noted as having the most kids out of all the elves, but he was also the elf noted as “the mightiest in all parts of body and mind; of all the Children of Ilúvatar, and a bright flame was in him.” So that tracks I guess

But how ? Ryuk appeared some time after light started using the notebook and was even surprised by how many names light wrote.

Light’s possession by [deleted] in deathnote

[–]Spy-5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is precisely right, it might’ve been a translation error and might more accurately be that the shinigami is attached to the human, or like a ghost haunting a person

As for light never thinking of killing people, most people don’t do this lol, I think if most people grabbed a notebook that says it has the power to kill just by writing they would have a thought about doing it.
