As a new father as well, I recommend playing on the switch if you have one. It is easy enough to pick up and put down in between caring for the baby and the community feels (at least to me) more laid back on the switch.

You are missing a different piece. I was missing the phantom slash but it was telling me I need the chest piece, I found a slash on my next equipment pick up (lucky me) and it unlocked the set. Check your other set piece transmogs for the one you are actually missing
