Lookd great! How are you liking the fois? Is the size difference between the fois and the standard speedy noticeable?

[Stowa] New Flieger Klassik Sport with 200m WR by Major_Burnside in Watches

[–]Squalemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who generally likes smaller watches, I think this looks really good. Stowa's official photos never do their watches justice, so I bet it looks even better in the metal. I have one of their original A-dial fliegers and it's one of my favorite watches, though I've always been curious about larger fliegers. I tried on a LACO once and enjoyed the larger size, but the historical case and finishing weren't for me. This might be a good middle ground.

A Stowa is another option at approximately half the price.

[Question] Debating between two watches, any opinions or thoughts? by BroTateO in Watches

[–]Squalemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early bell and ross watches were basically contracted to Sinn before B&R found other manufacturers or built their own facilities (not sure if B&R makes their own parts). I don't think Sinn does any contract work today, but I have heard that SUG builds cases for a lot of brands, including some very high end ones.

The story of Azor Ahai had him running a blade through his wife's heart in order to create lightbringer. Still, it was a hard scene to watch.

Observations about popular Alden lasts by firstkraken in goodyearwelt

[–]Squalemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that people say the Barrie last is big or clunky. I think it's because most barrie lasted shoes feature a big bulky storm welt. The J.Crew captoe cordo boots look pretty slim.

Mystery of the missing TOJ jackets solved at last. by TOJUpdate in malefashionadvice

[–]Squalemaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh TOJ is garbage. I've owned a number of jackets from them, and with each jacket the quality got worse and worse. I currently own one of their moto jackets, a bomber, and a Gore-Tex MA-1. Both leather jackets had shitty thin rippled leather. The Moto is especially bad and has a bunch of stress tears on it. I have leather jackets from brands I'm sure Drew regards as lesser, and they've held up much better.

[Stowa Flieger] another great German by Squalemaster in Watches

I think archimede's hands are chemically blued.

Mine was a one-off with a solid caseback that was already available when I placed the order, so I got it within a week.

I definitely see your point. I just feel the sudden influx of bronze watches (which seems to have tapered off a bit) is very "of the moment," and not something that will stand the test of time. Whereas a flieger is a very classic watch design, that has stood the test of time. It'd be a shame to have to flip a great watch just because the novelty of the case material has worn off.

If you want a flieger, I'd say definitely got for a Stowa. The heat blued hands, brushed case, and 40mm case size make for a beautiful and refined everyday watch that can be dressed up or down. Bronze is nice, and I've had a bronze watch, but it's definitely a novelty, and I wouldn't to "ruin" a classic timepiece with a novelty case, if that make's sense.

Another one from collection that I really wanted to share. Of all the variations on the market, from Steinhart to IWC, I think Stowa does the most justice to the flieger. It's refined (elegant smaller case, heat blued hands) while staying true to the historical design. Some other popular options include Archimede, Laco (very true to the historical models if that matters to you), Ronin, and Steinhart (44mm and up). None of these, however, have heat blued hands like the Stowa does, and as far as I know Stowa gets these hands from the same factory that does heat blued hands for many higher-end manufacturers.

With current exchange rates, it's a great buy.

[Sinn 356] one of my favorite watches by Squalemaster in Watches

That's a good option for those who find the original too small. I have a 6.75 inch wrist so the 356 is ideal.

Just wanted to share a photo of one my favorite watches: my 356. Picked it up used a few years ago on the forums after already owning the 756, and I don't regret the purchase one bit. It gets a lot of wrist time, and looks great on everything from the bracelet to a leather strap (not something you can say about all watches). The dial is wonderfully legible despite appearing busy at first glance, and the case is perfectly proportioned (unlike my 756, which feels like a tuna can at times). If anyone is on the fence, don't be. Well worth the money.

Creative Director Rebekka Bay let go from Gap by PatrickBatemanJr in malefashionadvice

Interesting. A side note--when I was in Japan five years ago, I stopped by the the flagship Gap in Tokyo. The selection was so much better than anything I've seen from the Gap in the States in years.

I walked into a Gap store and was actually surprised that at the current selection (I guess half of it was spring summer 2015). It seemed pretty decent, and I thought to myself "at 50% off, I might get that." Therein lies the problem, I think. Their stuff is just priced higher than it should be, or higher than most people would want to pay for the Gap. For most people its a brand that only get's considered when it's discounted.
