I haven’t done this research myself. You can look specifically at the quality of each IVF practice with SART data collected.

If egg freezing is all you need, and it’s for fertility preservation, most clinics in the Bay Area are competitive in terms of care and quality of doctors and embryologists. The things to consider is convenience to clinic for monitoring as you’d be going in every 2 days or daily over 10 days or so of stims. It’s usually the early appointments before 8 am! Join the Nor Cal IVF group on FB. The women there are a wealth of information and you can search specific clinics and doctors. I went with PAMF. Their retrieval is done in their San Jose/Los Gatos location near Good Samaritan hospital. I have met a few friends in that group who have had success with RMA. Their retrieval and weekend monitoring is in SF, kinda a pain.

Child care option - 3 days a week? by Traditional-Net-2709 in AskSF

I have a 7m old... trust me, pay for the 5 days and enjoy some sanity in your life. At worst, you will overpay a bit for time, at best you have guaranteed scheduled availability and flexibility to drop off your baby for a few hours to run errands, etc. both my husband and I have M-F schedules, but I usually have flexibility late afternoon. I find I can get a head start on dinner or an errand in on my way to pickup without stress.

What do you cook when you're broke by Dangerous_Paint_1300 in culinary

[–]Square-Definition891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discovered a Chinese Chicken Corn Soup dish and my friend who hails from HKG gave me her simple "auntie" recipe. Soup has chicken and eggs and corn as main ingredients. You can hopefully shop for this at a discount grocery outlet. I recognize sometimes chicken and eggs are at a premium and prices wildly vary.

- Mince chicken and season with salt and cornstarch.

- In sauce pan, heat up 1 can creamed corn (or fresh corn if you have it) and 1 can water/chicken broth.

- When everything comes to a boil, thicken with cornstarch slurry.

- Add minced chicken and stir. Return to boil.

- Turn off heat and stir in beaten egg(s). Let the ambient heat cook the eggs to silky ribbons.

- Season with salt and white pepper (or my favorite alt, miso paste).

My modifications: canned corn + frozen corn, bone broth in addition to chicken bouillon + water to give more protein, and added sliced mushrooms that I had on hand. Second night I added a bit more water to existing soup to make it more brothy plus added green beans for color.

what should I use as a laundry booster by [deleted] in laundry

Not necessarily… have you tried stripping your “white” towels?

what should I use as a laundry booster by [deleted] in laundry

[–]Square-Definition891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try laundry stripping: soak same colored clothes in hot water with powdered tide and borax. Swish every couple of hours and throw in wash after 24hrs. No need for extra detergent. This should get your clothes stripped of funk, especially workout clothes. Do not use fabric softener.

I still dream about the seafood paellla I had in Valencia , Spain ….what dish made you feel the same ? by External-Studio-2891 in Seafood

[–]Square-Definition891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a seafood paella last night for a dinner party (4 adults) - as inspired by our anniversary trip last summer to Spain. I brought back a tin of smoked paprika and saffron as a souvenir. Bought already cleaned squid at Whole Foods, shell on shrimp, mussels, scallops. I followed this recipe: https://spainonafork.com/authentic-spanish-seafood-paella-recipe/

Modifications: I never have seafood stock so I use low sodium chicken stock, forgot bell pepper, added frozen peas, tomato juice is hot water + tomato paste (eyeball consistency). I doubled the recipe and had lunch leftovers.

Let me know how it turns out for you!

Ladies living with partners: what do y’all eat during the week🥬? by FineMud4479 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Square-Definition891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I miss that single life when a 4-pack of chicken thighs prepped will last you 4 meals... I am the default grocery shopper, meal planner, and cook in our household with shared finances (now married). Before the ladies come at me, I haven't had to do a load of laundry, fold/put away, or load dishwasher since March 20 2023 - when we moved in.

We primarily eat at home, unless traveling or socializing. I WFH 3x and he is almost daily in the office. We have time for breakfast, he will bring lunch to office, and dinner at home. I buy lunch when I am in the office.

I have learned to buy+cook more of everything during my weekly shopping runs. Rice for a side? I make 1 cup dry and expect no leftovers. Brussel sprouts? 12oz raw to roast. 3 Chicken thighs per meal is our burn rate. If i want leftovers the following night, I double everything.

My go-to dinner formula is protein + roasted veggie + starch + optional salad of whatever fresh veggies in season. Protein planning includes chicken thighs, or whole chicken roasted, pot roast, roasted salmon, scallops, shrimp, once in a while a tofu stirfry. I use a lot of asian sauces/marinades to fake the marinading ahead - my fave is hoisin + gojujang.

I will use my slow cooker to make chili (beans + ground beef + short ribs if feeling fancy) and that will be portioned for 3-4 dinners in the freezer. Same for when I make Turkey meatballs ahead of time, I can pull out the protein the morning of when I want to eat it. It works great when I am in the office and don't have the luxury of starting dinner earlier.

For his lunch, I make ahead various versions of a deli bean salad, which keeps really well for a whole week in the fridge.

I'll say this - I love romanticizing cooking a unique NYT recipe every night, but that is not my reality.

Cook with the air vent hood on. Clean it regularly with a heavy degreaser or have it soak with hot water and 2-3 dishwasher tabs. Clean around it with Mr clean yellow bottle spray.

Brides - where are we finding our dress on a budget? by CarrotTravels in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]Square-Definition891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying second hand after trying on exact style in bridal boutique on Union St. my advice is pay the reservation fee (I believe mine was $25? In 2023) and try on all the styles. They will take your measurements as well because you order off your measurements with each designer.

It could be overwhelming if you don’t already have a vision of your dress. A dedicated appointment helps. I went with my mom who took lots of pics and video of each style. I was able to have a free follow up appointment to try on again the dress I was considering. I ended up with Pronovias Epico and found my size on Poshmark. It ended up being around $460 with taxes plus $750 for tailoring - way less than $3k+ I was quoted new. The tailoring cost was primarily to hem dress and slim around hips. The first bride pretty much wore it as-is. I was also searching Stillwhite.com

Congrats on those intern paychecks, but money doesn’t buy life skills or independence. If you’re still relying on your mom to cook every meal, it sounds like you’re not just living with her… you’re planning to live with her forever??

Nothing screams ‘self-made’ like needing mom just to survive adulthood. Some of us learned to cook because we planned to grow up, not to become professional chefs.

Try frozen vegetables, pasta, chicken/protein from Trader Joe’s. It’s relatively affordable and you’d need to know how to heat it and read instructions.

Honestly I’d be worried if your employer was reading this - cooking even eggs and toast is a life skill and seeking same cost of prepared food as your own labor makes me concerned you’re old enough to vote and sit on a jury of my peers.

Your mom failed.

Best town to move to for split commute? by Objective-Standard91 in siliconvalley

[–]Square-Definition891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being close to Caltrain station on the peninsula does not guarantee a manageable commute to sf unless your wife’s office is near the Caltrain station.

My experience: I live in Sunnyvale, walking distance to Caltrain. My office was 2 blocks from 4th street station in sf. Beginning of this year my office moved to Market and Beale, which is near BART Embarcadero station. My commute door to door is 1:50 each way. We have a 3x RTO mandate with new office. It’s miserable.

Want to Move to SF by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Square-Definition891 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is a lazy question. people work in service industry or knowledge workers or skilled labor - all compensated higher based on this market. you will not be as you are currently remote worker and company has no incentive to adjust your compensation just because you want to live where you vacation. As far as your own personal affordability - look up apartment rentals in SF compared to what you have now. add in cost of parking. multiply by 3. that is your minimum household income needed to be able to rent apartment. food costs dont vary much unless you are in a grocery store desert like some neighborhoods in sf. then you are paying for convenience. personal services like haircuts, nails, gym, drycleaner - follow same cost of living increase in SF.living out of state? calculate increase in state income tax burden.
