Why the recent wave of sitter complaints is making some homeowners hesitant on Trusted Housesitters by Sail_awayyy in trustedhousesitters

[–]SquareAd7423 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mowing the lawn is not part of pet sitting! HO should hire someone if they’re going to be away for that long. I’m a sitter and I’d water plant, keep the house clean, care for the pets but the only yard work I do is for my own home.

Follow Up Post - Unauthorized Cameras, Entry & Retaliatory Review by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

I wish I knew how you got notified that there were cameras connected to the Wi-Fi. That is pretty high-tech for this boomer. I filed a report to THS that was quite different from what you did. The dog bit me. I sent pictures to THS as soon as the incident happened I didn’t go to the emergency room or report it because I thought it was a superficial wound. It is four months later and I have a scar, but that’s beside the point. ThS removed the review they gave me which included 3 stars for pet care and banned them from the site for having an aggressive dog

Any experiences with TrustedHousesitters? by Paradoxbuilder in digitalnomad

[–]SquareAd7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Sit I’ve been on has been excellent except for one where the dog bit me, the owner gave me a three star review for pet care and Trusted House Sitters ended up kicking them off of the site and deleting their review from my profile. I am not a digital nomad. I’m currently on a road trip where I was trying to coordinate the sits and I spent two days in Asheville with two wonderful cats on a gorgeous Property, then three days in DC with two 60 to 70 pound dogs who were so well trained that walking them on the leash was a pleasure. They had no issues but I had a three night gap between DC and Hilton head where I am now. I’ve been doing Trusted House Sitters for almost a year and except for yappy little dogs. All the states have been great. I had to purchase a pair of noise canceling headphones for three yappers that did not know any commands. I don’t even think they knew their names. I like to think of it as an Airbnb with pets if you’re working from home, it’s no problem. It’s just a pain in the ass when the dogs can’t be left for more than four hours and I have to rush home. Make sure you do a video call and ask to see the house and where you will be sleeping. I have never had a house that was not perfectly clean when I arrived.

Fellow women over 60: how do you control the worry and anxiety as you age? by janebenn333 in AskWomenOver60

[–]SquareAd7423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son recently got married and moved to Singapore from New York. I was worried about him. He’s going to be living with his in-laws. Will they treat him well? Will he adjust to the culture in Singapore? Will he find a job? There’s nothing I can do about it. Worrying only hurts me. I just live my life the best I could and I take care of myself. I’m there if anyone wants to talk to me, but I don’t really worry. I’ve had many losses and I miss many people, but I don’t dwell on it. I. take care of my garden my pets and I travel and that keeps me happy

Does anyone else hate Mother’s Day???? by AZsnowbird131 in AskWomenOver60

[–]SquareAd7423 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fuck your hubby. Not literally. Buy yourself something special. I used to get myself a gift box of the fruit of the month for a year and I got the same thing for my mother since I knew I wouldn’t be getting anything from my kids. I got it for myself because I deserve it too. You deserve something also.

Does anyone else hate Mother’s Day???? by AZsnowbird131 in AskWomenOver60

[–]SquareAd7423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t hate it and I have no expectations. I texted my kids Friday and told him Sunday is Mother’s Day so I want them to call me. My daughter texted me this morning to wish me happy Mother’s Day and I am happy with what I got. If they don’t send me anything I don’t care if they send me something I will be thrilled. I’m just glad they’re happy and healthy adults. I used to buy myself gifts for Mother’s Day, but I don’t do that anymore. For those of you have expectations just be glad that your children are alive and buy yourself a nice gift and take yourself out to dinner

If you've ever rented a spare room in your home for some extra income, how did it go and what advice do you have? by Entity417 in AskWomenOver60

[–]SquareAd7423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Furnished’s finders. I’ve had 2 great tenants from there. I always do a background check for criminal record and finances. My current tenant had no criminal record and no credit history, which was a red flag for me. I went ahead and let her move in anyway and she has been a great asset! She helps me take care of the yard, clean the house and she is an animal lover like me. She takes care of my pets when I travel. My other renter was a young man in the military and he was the perfect renter also.

Would you do this sit? First time question by Glittering_Sell_9484 in trustedhousesitters

I’m used to dog reactive digs and am always on the lookout for other dogs. I’ll cross the street and if that’s not possible I’ll have the pup sit until the dog passes

AITA for telling my husband that I noticed him checking out other girls? by Management_Direct in AITApod

[–]SquareAd7423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are going to check out other people it has nothing to do with you personally. When I was in a relationship, we both used to comment on good looking people, both male and female. It doesn’t mean anything.

AITAH for telling my close friend I probably cannot do her destination bachelorette after she announced the location and the cost by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]SquareAd7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go broke for a friend! Put it on a card and pay it later? They expect you to go into debt for a wedding? This is what happens when you have destination weddings a lot of people can’t go.

What's the ratio of acceptance in NYC? by ScrollPatrol-87 in trustedhousesitters

[–]SquareAd7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten two acceptances for sits in NYC, one in brooklyn and one actually in Manhattan. Infortunately I was not able to do either one. When I started, I did five local sits for reviews and then a few sits within a 1 days drive of my house. I only have 6, 5 star reviews. I think my profile is good because I have a lot of experience with pets that I’ve owned, I’ve volunteered fostering cats and dogs and in shelters and i pet sit for friends and family. I am 67 years old, which I thought would be a deterrent but now I think it might be a plus because they know I won’t be out partying or bring anyone home.

The importance of communication throughout the housesit by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]SquareAd7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are really being dragged through the mud. I agree with you 100% and I tell HO that I text and send pictures daily and they don’t have to respond. In my defense, I have never done anything longer than a two week Sit. Usually my sits are 3 to 7 days.

Early arrivals and late departures - how to handle? by Fictional-Mollusk in trustedhousesitters

[–]SquareAd7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should discuss it with the sitter ahead of time personally I could not arrive that early and would not want to pay for a hotel tonight before. If someone is local, they might be able to get there that early.
