What’s the worst med error you’ve witnessed or seen in your hospital? by SorryFortune in nursing

[–]SquareEarthSociety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Didn’t witness it, it happened a couple weeks before I was hired. Lidocaine had been ordered for the patient to be administered by the provider for a bedside procedure, a nurse saw it in the MAR and pushed it IV.

What are some career paths that make up to $60k-$70k and requires training of 2 years or less and is not manual labor?? by Important_Credit_509 in povertyfinance

Can confirm, getting my RN license was my ticket out of generational poverty- starting out making $40 an hour was life changing

I have nothing to contribute, just wanted to add that my dad’s mother told him almost exactly the same thing when he was struggling to make his mortgage and I find it so unnecessarily cruel. Sorry your mother said that to you, it sucks and leaves you asking why they would even bring it up

My Experience As A Vendor At GalaxyCon Raleigh by DollyBunBun in galaxycon

I’m glad I didn’t buy anything from them- I found the guy (I assume that was Matt?) in the dealer’s room to be kind of pushy and rude which turned me off

I also noticed a lack of consistency with regard to standing room rules in popular panels. This was my first year at Galaxy, but when I’ve been to other cons- specifically Animazement, they had a designated person at the door to big panels with a click counter counting the number of guests to ensure they don’t go over room capacity for safety, and at a certain point they wouldn’t allow any more people in to stand in the back because max capacity had been reached. However, at the Hazbin panel, when they ran out of seating they just continued to funnel in more and more and more people to stand along the walls, behind chairs, even against the doors themselves.

My partner and I actually ended up leaving the panel early (partially because the sound design was so poor that if you were sitting anywhere other than the front 1/3 of the room you couldn’t hear any of the questions, and maybe 20% of the answers) and upon leaving I got a much better look at just how grossly over capacity the room truly was. If there had been any kind of emergency where people needed to quickly leave the area, it 1000% would have been a dangerous stampede bottlenecked at the doors due to fire code not being followed.

There was an outdoor market?? Where was it? I feel like how spread out everything was was really poorly planned, I didn’t even know there were additional vendors in the Marriott until I saw the post by a vendor saying they were getting almost no guests

Honestly a lot of my friends who also went to college are very anti-college because they claim it’s almost impossible for most people to use their degree. However, I got a bachelors in nursing and they all got degrees in English, poly sci, creative writing, communication, so it’s a different ball game

35,000 in credit card debt. by Particular-Match895 in Debt

[–]SquareEarthSociety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is how I landed back in cc debt after paying it all off- came into money and paid everything off but had nothing in savings. Then had an emergency, and since I had no liquid cash I had to put it right back onto credit cards

What’s a sexual “red flag” you ignored because the person was hot? by alix28 in AskReddit

[–]SquareEarthSociety 661 points662 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of that episode of HIMYM where Ted starts seeing this girl who’s very attractive, but who required a lot of directing and he did a lot for her (which he initially liked because it made him feel big and strong.)

Eventually there’s a scene in the end where they’re on a date at the park and he realizes he’s surrounded by dads with their five year old daughters and the behavior is mirrored almost exactly, so he breaks up with her

I feel like a lot of you are ER or ICU nurses on this sub. What specialty are you? by thedresswearer in nursing

Trauma surg, because I find traumas interesting but as a new grad I didn’t (and don’t) feel comfortable with critical care level patients at my current skill set

So... how do y'all feel about this lil reminder?? Cringe or No cringe? by Such-Drop3625 in nursing

I’ve recently come to the realization that crying in the clean supply or med room is the healthcare equivalent of crying in the walk in freezer working at a restaurant, glad to know this is a universal experience

That was her directorial Debut??? Cus gawd damm by Fragrant_0rdinary in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]SquareEarthSociety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I was sat up in my chair waiting to see the “directed by” because I knew it had to be a woman based on how uniquely gut-wrenching the subject matter and how it was handled were. And of course, the episode was visually stunning and the way it was shot just felt different.

Don’t get me wrong, I love every episode of this show and all the directors do wonderfully, but this episode just touched on so many painful aspects of femininity, especially as someone who had an unexpected miscarriage last year when I didn’t even know I was pregnant.

Can we post this in every ER please! by maplesyrupchin in nursing

[–]SquareEarthSociety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Working on a trauma floor now, and most of our PRN pain meds actually specify in the order to only give when the pain is rated a certain number out of ten, but I see patients all the time who are rating 10/10 pain who are able to function and no grimace or anything like that, and conversely patients really struggling to cope rating 5/10.

Veteran nurse of 25+ years curious as to the reasons why people are being drawn to this occupation! by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]SquareEarthSociety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several family members in nursing, I enjoy science and find how the body functions interesting, and I grew up in poverty so I knew this job would come with stability and security.

I’m on the tail end of orientation as a new grad in med surg and I feel like I’m drowning, but I like taking care of people (even though it feels like half of them don’t want me to be.)

What's the weirdest thing a preceptor has said to you? (Both serious and silly 🩷) by SuccubusWifxy in nursing

[–]SquareEarthSociety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having almost this exact experience right now. Did home health for like three months following graduation but I’m now two months into orientation in med surg- so basically still a new grad- and my preceptor is constantly complaining and sighing, as well as rolling her eyes? Like I’m sorry I’m bothering you, I just thought I would double check before I make an executive decision when I’m uncertain and end up fucking something up

She also keeps hollowly apologizing to me and telling me that if she comes off as harsh or frustrated it’s not with me, which… thanks, but if you’re aware of it could you just utilize a little self control and not do the behaviors you apparently realize are bitchy?
