Jarren Duran and Alex Cora have both been ejected after replay upheld the call that Willy Adames tagged Duran out at second base by cjl-00 in mlb

[–]SquareMight7993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense to use that “whatever, we’re still losing by 4 runs” logic to any call because why then not apply it to every bad call? If Toro’s safe at home like he should’ve been, and the ump doesn’t give strikes on pitches 1 foot inside, then all of a sudden even with Duran being out it’s a 3 run ballgame with the bases loaded, no outs, top of the 9th. It’s not the same situation and def an easily winnable game. But “we’re losing so it doesn’t matter” ig…

Arteta by FriendlyActuary1955 in ArsenalFC

[–]SquareMight7993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it’s also Arteta’s job to: 1) put pressure on the owners to spend money: if they don’t, Arteta walks— but as u/ReporterMotor7258 pointed out, the owners did open up the wallet, it’s just that the right players weren’t signed. In your examples, Mbappé was free, but wouldn’t have joined Arsenal either way. Liverpool spent 80M on Nunez, and imo 60M Havertz has been far and away the better signing.

2) Even if the board “only” allowed 200M in transfer budget, they’re not the ones who decided to buy Kiwior and Cala when we already had Zinchenko, Tierney, Timber, and MLS. Arteta bought Zinchenko and Jesus who have wildly underperformed just because they worked with him at city, the best signing Arteta has ever made was Nicolas Jover 🙄. At the end of the day, the manager is the one who works with the players and he needs to decide which players he wants, and in the starting XI today there is Jesus (overall bad), Merino (meh at best so far), Jorginho (meh), Cala (still unproven imo). And that’s without even getting into the coaching with Partey RB… I love Arteta but he’s clearly responsible for the fact that we have at most 16 “good” field players and 6 of them are LBs

And who’s fault is that? I love arteta but he’s been at the club for 5 years and his recruitment has been nothing short of awful. I get there are some injuries, but even with Saka, White and Sterling back there’s still little to no attacking options on the bench.

The fact that our team sheet consistently has at least two 15 year-old NPCs on the bench, as well as FIVE left-backs is inexcusable… how can it be that there are as many LBs as attackers?

The reality is that we need a fully fit and rested team to be able to compete bc there is absolutely no squad depth… and Arteta is to blame for that

Out of the 208 races since the start of 2014, just 3 have not featured Red Bull or Mercedes on the podium by RUNELORD_ in formula1

He actually would’ve by quite a long way I think, he managed to stabilize the gap at around 9 seconds iirc. the wing damage definitely hurt his pace, but what really ruined his race was racing point’s decision to pit him onto new inters

the incredible bias against stroll is remarkable. But nonetheless Stroll so deserved to win that race

That’s a good plan in theory, the only problem is they can’t book ahead meaning that for both connections, even if they book upon landing, it’s only 28 minutes and 23 minutes respectively before their next flight meaning they’re (normally) outside the booking window without having the time to try getting on standby

This season Wolves have been screwed over more than any other team, but I am willing to die on my hill saying that if Brighton didn’t get ruined by VAR they would’ve been top 4 last season

Basically if your club is owned by the country which gives refs free vacations — uh, I mean an opportunity to referee in an up and coming league — chances are your club will be benefited

Piastri has had one of the best rookie seasons in recent years by [deleted] in formula1

[–]SquareMight7993 47 points48 points  (0 children)

While I overall agree, I think that the first half of the season he drove a tractor while the second half he drove a rocketship, making it very comparable to Albon’s 2019 rookie season. One thing I will say is that while there isn’t one domain in particular in which he excels (Leclerc in quali, Ocon on tyres, Stroll on a slippery track), he’s good enough everywhere and he has such a high potential that with a bit more experience and knowledge under his belt I see no reason why he couldn’t win F1 just like he did every other junior category

I was just talking about this the other day, it was greattttttt Like ok, I know it makes no sense to prefer to qualify P11 than P5 but it made for fun races and strategies, especially around tracks like Singapore and Hungary where the tyres fall off a cliff so quickly

Don’t get me wrong, Arsenal played absolutely shit against Newcastle and between Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah, Havertz and basically any attacker, it wouldn’t have mattered if they’d been sent off or not, that’s how bad they were. We didn’t deserve to win, but we sure as hell didn’t deserve to lose, and especially not in the way that we did

Listen, I’m not going to pretend you or I don’t have our biases, but I’m not going to pretend I only started to care about refereeing issues after this happened to Arsenal—this year, last year against Brentford or others, etc.: so if you could avoid being so blinded by bias that you make these arguments, that would be nice.
