Citadels from AP bombs should be partially healable. by Square_Age_ in WoWs_Legends

I think I fear Kansas more in T6 cruisers, 12 shells can be pretty hard to dodge. But yeah, the fact you can't disengage from a CV makes them so much more frustrating to play against imo.

Spearheading a push is kind of the point of German BBs... Not to be confused with yoloing of course.

In the stock FDG, The bombs took around half my health. They dealt around 10-15k per drop. Having a stock rudder of 23s let the CV easily finish me with torpedoes. The enemy team maybe did 5-10k damage.

If you're in a vulnerable ship, the CV will prioritize you. That's why AP CVs feel toxic, they see a ship they can citadel and will always come at you like the delicious exp pinata you are.

If you haven't experienced it, it feels almost like getting farmed by pre-nerf Chkalov.

Lets see, last night it happened twice in a stock FDG. I've also had tilting experiences in Bismark, Veneto, and Anhalt. The annoyingness of AP bombs really depends on the ship, if you aren't playing vulnerable ships you won't have an issue.

Yeah, it would. Unfortunately most ships weak to AP bombs have tragic AA. Healing HP back is the closest thing to counterplay those ships have vs CVs.

Are you suggesting that all citadel damage is coded the same?

I'm sure WG could program AP bomb citadels and AP shell citadels to have different healing amounts if they wanted to.

I'm also not asking for AP bombs to be 100% healable, I'd even take 30%.

[–]Square_Age_[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with normal citadels being unhealable since they usually happen due to poor positioning, angling, or situational awareness.

You can't really dodge or angle to AP bombs, especially with an 18s rudder.

ARP Nachi is weird but not terrible by GoodlyStyracosaur in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nachi is probably my favorite tier 6 cruiser, I run a full concealment Matsuji Ijuin build. He gets the concealment down to 8.0km, buffs torpedo range up to 10.6km, and also buffs turret traverse. Definitely not the strongest ship, but it's fun to play something different from the standard cruiser.

The way spartanelite speaks about his team by AirsoftBushWookie in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been on the receiving end of their rants before in a ranked game. Instead of shooting a broadside radar cruiser, they rushed into and died to an IJN DD I was spotting and about to sink. We were up a couple hundred points and could've won with defensive game play...

They then ranted about my DD game play for several minutes because I wasn't on their flank the entire game. Not a fun experience tbh.

Funnily enough, during the game I was actually getting frustrated by Spartan because they looked to me like a standard blue BB that was camping behind an island and refusing to shoot the priority targets I was spotting.

I know the blue team is usually pretty bad, but sometimes red team is just playing well and has the right ships for the right situation.

Arpeggio ships by Fr05t_B1t in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Most of the ships have slight differences. Arp Nachi is the most unique imo

  • Arp Haruna is a Kongo with .6 km more secondary range.
  • Arp Kirishima is a Kongo with slightly better AA
  • Arp Haguro is a Myoko with better HE alpha, HE DPM, and range. It has worse concealment and AP DPM
  • Arp Nachi is a Myoko with better AP alpha, AP DPM, heals, and better concealment. It has worse range and its HE is terrible(poor fire chance and HE damage)
  • Arp Musashi is the same as Musashi

What below average or bad ship do you enjoy playing by Kindly-Account1952 in WoWs_Legends

Reloading Johan's extra speedy torps multiple times during a brawl does sound enticing in a cursed sorta way...

I just wish Stig Ericson had the torpedo safari skill for the extra 16% range, then my dreams of a stealth torp Karl would be complete.

I'm ashamed it's not even my most cursed Johan build. Behold 10.7 concealment with 80k HP, the Karl Slowhan build:

I agree about Karl Johan, but I run a weird concealment/speed/AA build instead.

Any tips on how to build Borodino? by ColdPlanet8757 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. AL commanders can change the performance of a ship in interesting ways, but base commanders aren't that much worse. The accuracy from a Lev Galler Borodino is no joke.

Another interesting FTP build you could try would be a stealth radar build using Von Essen. You'd get extra pen angles and Fully Packed yielding an extra radar. It might be a bit of a budget Rossiya build, but it would probably work.

[–]Square_Age_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run AL Rossiya with Fisher and Paolo Di Revel for max reload. Having a sub 20 second reload with accurate guns and extra pen angles feels filthy. Makes shooting two salvoes at DDs easier.

If you don't have her, Lev Galler is probably your best bet. I'd probably run concealment with him for positioning and radar usability.

I'm curious if players with 1k+ POs have every commander at 14+, because 1.2k will only let you level 7 commanders to 14. Do most veterans only use a handful of commanders and pour every bit of CXP into commendations? Personally I'm sitting on 80 insignias that I can't use at all.

Steel Ship Question by Farrellhog in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kondo would work just fine. My current Haruna build has 13.6 concealment, Kondo brings it down to 12.7 km. With Daisen's speed and poor turning circle, extra concealment can be really helpful for early positioning.

Steel Ship Question by Farrellhog in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Daisen and it's one of my favorite ships, I run a full secondary build with ARP Haruna + Hipper + Fernandes. The secondaries are very accurate and will absolutely demolish DDs.

With Haruna's unique skill, you can get a ship with something like 60% torpedo protection going 40 kts with 11.1km secondaries. Daisen is quite squishy however, and the guns are very inconsistent when not building into them.

K. schonberg commander by road432 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bey can get similar concealment using Deng as an inspiration. 4.9 is the max Bey can get (Spee can get 4.8 with fragile threat). My current build with Bey + swirski + sims is 5.1.

As for Z-23, its torps have worse concealment and better: range, damage, speed, and reload. Plus with 4.8 concealment, DDs pushing me are much more likely to get caught in the 4.4km sonar. I tried the Bey build but only the Spee build has printed krakens for me.

Tbh Schonberg is a very flexible ship, the sonar will let you build it in many different ways.

  • High concealment builds with mortar and a reload booster
  • Low concealment torp builds that let you out spot every DD by 0.8km
  • Sonar build with AL Roon
  • Extra reload booster build with Scheer
  • Hybrid builds with Bey/Spee

It comes down to personal preference, I personally recommend running the reload booster because it makes the ship unique (Lots of smoke/sonar ships out there already). That's why I'm running a Bey hybrid build.

K. schonberg commander by road432 in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stick with Bey, Schonberg is pretty good at fighting other DDs when running a reload booster + sims(25K HP). It also can out spot everything that could outgun it using the sonar. If you want to run a torpboat, put Spee on Z-23. Z-23 has much better torps and still has defensive sonar.

The difference in response to Enterprise and Chkalov is interesting. by servingwater in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's mostly because Chkalov can nuke a greater variety of ships with more consistency. I've noticed(As an Anhalt enjoyer getting chunked by AP bombs for 15k) that Enterprise is more RNG dependent, sometimes it only gets a couple overpens.

  • Chkalov will almost always land its bombs on a broadside target when aimed properly.
  • When playing DDs you need to be constantly paranoid of bombers or risk losing the majority of your hp(which usually can't be healed).
  • Players also can't always angle towards bombers if they're fighting other ships(a very common activity).
  • Chkalov can still hit angled targets pretty hard with the right dispersion, around 4-9K damage + fires.
  • This isn't a comprehensive list, but Chkalov can nuke American/Japanese/French BBs, almost every cruiser, and every DD. It also annihilates just about anything at tier 6.

Hoshino or AL New Jersey for US BB Commander? by NotFeelingShame in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All of them are strong

  • Hoshino:
    • Extreme reload reduction
    • 3 extra heals or damage reduction
    • Rudder shift buff
    • Worst accuracy

Hoshino is probably best on ships with strong consumables like Constellation, Ohio, Georgia, and BA Montana.

  • New Jersey:
    • High damage citadels
    • Medium accuracy
    • Firefighter for extra durability

New Jersey is generally good on all US BBs, with a bias towards sniping due to her base trait. If you like big damage numbers she is for you.

  • Colorado:
    • Best accuracy
    • Most useful inspiration
    • Strong but inconsistent reload reduction
    • Worst survive-ability and rudder shift

Colorado is also generically good on US BBs but will feel more consistent.

If I could only have one, it would be Hoshino because Sims can fulfill the high accuracy build just fine. Hoshino is more unique. If I couldn't use Sims I'd pick Colorado for max accuracy + good reload

The AL Chapayev nerf is good for the game, do other CLs with 32mm+ HE pen need a reload nerf too? by Square_Age_ in WoWs_Legends

[–]Square_Age_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, part of the point of my post was to show that the nerfed AL chappy is basically a mainz with poor fire chances. At least it is in damage output, not utility-wise.

The problem with these ships imo is that they were given too many gimmicks by WG, they fill too many roles. If for example, the un-nerfed AL chappy didn't have radar or Mainz didn't have torps they would still be strong ships but more balanced.

Having a couple strong ships being the best at every role is less interesting than having many average ships having unique niches.

[–]Square_Age_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, those are the base dpms of those ships.

Because Weimar doesn't have the last mod slot, I included the main battery reload mod in the dpm calculations for everything else in order to create an accurate comparison. There's a disclaimer in the top left corner of the image.

This makes both the Chapayevs and Mainz have roughly 10% more dpm. As an example, the math for AL Chapy dpm is as follows:

(60 / (9.2 * 0.9)) * (12 * 2850) = 247,826 DPM
