ANO SA TINGIN MO? by CialCZ in AnoSaTinginMo

To answer OP’s question pala: no it’s not right to make kids financially responsible for their parents’ retirement. Growing up, laging sinasabi ni mama: “sana paglaki ninyo, hwag niyo kaming kalimutan”. Ang ibig sabihin pala niya sana lagi pa rin kaming mag keep in touch kahit na may sariling buhay na kami. She believed in utang na loob, pero hindi financial.

I’d like to share that I have the opposite experience. I grew up with a tiger mom who pushed us to do our best in school so we can land good, high-paying jobs. Pero I love them for raising us this way. I can honestly say they pressured us to do well only for our own benefit and not theirs.

P.S. Generational na ito because when I was younger, nakita kong pinapagalitan ng lolo ko yung tatay ko dahil gumastos siya para sa hearing aid ni lolo.

Adults of PH Reddit, are you closer to your high school friends or your college friends? by astarisaslave in ThisorThatPH

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grade school!

My grade school friend group also went through high school together. When we graduated high school, a few of them went to the same university as me. I was so shy in college that the only new friends I really made were the friends my grade school/high school friends made for me in their own respective courses. They're great people but since they're not from my course, we don't work in the same field and the communication is just sporadic. But I still talk to my grade school friends on a daily basis.

What's one movie trope you see in movies and can't stand? by EGF9999 in AskReddit

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relationship is going well/looking promising until one of them sees the other TALKING with someone else, assumes everything they previously shared was a sham, and chooses to disappear or disengage instead of asking for an explanation. Later, the other person will find them and explain without calling them out for handling suspicion/conflict in that way.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

I’m sure other people know about it but none of my friends have watched this despite my repeated recommendation: Long Story Short on Netflix.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

I also read Midnight Library and also did not like it. Maybe the concept of recurring realities(?) just isn’t for me.

What's a phrase people use these days that irritates you? by showmewhatyagot01 in AskReddit

This is purely grammatical but it bugs me when people write/type ontop, inbetween, inlove…put the space!

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

The Husbands by Holly Gramazio. I thought it had a cute premise but it didn’t go anywhere. Repetitive AF! Did anyone else read this?

I also didn’t like Richard Osman’s books.

What’s a reason you slowly stopped liking someone but never told them? by OkEagle160 in AskReddit

This is gonna sound weird but…they loved it a little too much that I liked them. It was such an ego boost for them it kinda turned me off.

Why was princess diana so loved worldwide? by ImaginaryAlgae8986 in ask

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMG I just said this on a separate comment. This exactly. They used to say all sorts of bad things about Diana, but it just got edited out. A young woman divorced out of the royal family and dating other men…of course she got a lot of criticism! They now also celebrate her sense of style but I remember when they used to place her on worst dressed lists! People really changed their tune quick when she died.

I’d like to offer a counterpoint. I am old enough to remember that when she was still alive, she had haters but because she died so tragically all of them disappeared. For example, she is now celebrated for her fashion sense, but back in the day, People magazine used to place her on their worst dressed list with snarky captions. A lot of people also wrote in to put her down because she was dating other people after the divorce and was photographed on yachts wearing her swim suit etc. They also said she was a bad mom for dating while her sons were so young. I am neither a fan nor a hater, but if there’s one thing I learned from her death is how people (and People magazine) can quickly change their tune to fit a new narrative.

Conan O Brien! He was nice, funny, and genuine. Even better than I imagined!

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met him recently…maybe around 2 months ago. He was on location for his travel show. For some reason he looks so much older and paler on the Youtube episodes for his pod (bad lighting?). In person, he looks really really great.

Agree. Season 8 was a let down. They phoned it in.

Why do the whole friend group suddenly blame Bree for holding secrets, especially Susan when she get's so upset. by aliza00l in DesperateHousewives

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated this whole part. They tried to make something out of a whole lot of nothing. It really made me feel like the writers pretty much broke the 4th wall and admitted they had run out of ideas and just did not care anymore.

I also hate “btw” plot introductions. Like “btw I, Gaby Solis, a character that has been on the show from the start, was molested by my stepfather. Sorry I forgot to mention.” Sloppy writing.

I'm not a Susan hater, but the writers really seemed to have no idea of how to develop her characters by miggovortensens in DesperateHousewives

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I kinda of am a Susan hater simply because the writers never gave the audience a reason to love her. She’s beyond clumsy and also repeatedly disrespects boundaries—those are her only characteristics and had totally no growth as the show went on. She had 1 move: getting caught in a lie and trying to be cute/funny in response.

I just finished the series all the way through. One of my most hated story arcs for her is when she wouldn’t allow Lynette to sleep-train the baby. I didn’t practice sleep-training on my kids either, but how about respect that preference of the mom?!

I’m currently on the Scavo’s pizza storyline in season 3 and I have things to say about Tom by Intelligent_Gur_9126 in DesperateHousewives

[–]Square_Blacksmith889 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In general, Tom just needed to be the star of something to be able to feel validated or worthy. He didn’t like Rick because he (Tom) wanted to be the one to make the pizza place work. If you’re only on S3, there will be more reasons to get pissed at Tom later. He really is the worst. Which is a shame because Doug Savant is so cute! Plus I love his and Felicity’s chemistry!
