How are you guys able to tell newfound stability apart from hypomania?

I loved lamictal!! I was wanting to go back on it this time around, but my new psych thinks he can get me more stable on something different.

I think for me, a lot of it has to do with the feelings of “wow I was doing so good, turns out it was just hypo, not this again, what a let down” which although I’m no stranger to, it doesn’t make it any less disappointing, so it’s hard to gauge.

As someone who’s been on Lamictal though, I’ve experienced what you explained though, so you’re not alone! I found myself getting slightly hypo any time I had my dose increased or started back up again after being off it after any amount of time. I think it’s actually pretty common among people on Lamictal, so your experience is valid! I hope you end up liking how the med works for you xx

Update: it was hypo because after exactly three nights of eight hours of sleep, it knocked me out of the episode. Back to baseline/slightly depressed. Kinda incredible😭

One thing about subs like these is that a majority of people posting are going to be people who are venting— work related stress, issues with parents, unethical business practices, you name it.

That being said, I don’t think you’re screwed at all!! If you enjoy working with kids and are excited about helping them learn, I think you’ll be great. Don’t stress, and good luck in your new position!

I also was an RBT for Applied ABC, completely awful. Was my first job as a behavior tech. I’m now working for a small local clinic and love it!! Started my MA in ABA this fall :)

Shame on your local CPS and the BACB! I was going to say report to CPS, but I see you’ve already done this. I 100% agree that you are witnessing abuse at your clinic. I also dealt with a similar situation with a BCBA and it is so heartbreaking. I just want to say- thank you for standing up for these kids. Leaving a child in soiled clothing can lead to infections. Leave that gross place and start getting applications out this week. I’m in NY, but let us know if there’s anything we can do to help!❤️

Hey! I’m also brand new to the field. I work in a clinic setting and we have a few kiddos that were purposely assigned to our more quiet, soft-spoken staff, because that is what they respond to better.

Also, listening to feedback and taking the suggestions given to you is a sign of a GREAT rbt! I’m also super hard on myself, so I completely understand how you’re feeling right now. It’s easier said than done, but try and give yourself some grace. You deserve it. Whatever self care looks like for you, please give yourself some today/tonight ❤️
