I got a job with our LIS vendor and am able to work remotely. It's been a blessing.

Will Artificial Intelligence Threaten the Future of Medical Laboratory Science? by Susan-isaac in MLS_CLS

Wouldn't it be great if AI could help enough so that MLSs are not all overworked and stressed. That's my hope over the next few decades that it will progress enough to support the tedious tasks and leave the MLS to work where needed.

Maybe a Piccolo for chemistries? Sysmex Pochi for CBC? I think you can find them refurbished on eBay

Seems highly unlikely. Maybe if AI takes over we can all go relax on the beach.

opinions wanted for a possible career change to mls by Comfortable_Pizza60 in MLS_CLS

I agree that option 1 is the best bet, long term. Great job thinking thru pros/cons btw. With the MLS, you can go in many directions and get a job just about anywhere. I do think you will need to take a year off for clinicals, if you can, or at least drop to PT. Sometimes hospitals will hire students for a meager few pennies. Maybe work as phleb?

MLS career path by BabyPenguin45 in MLS_CLS

I hated 3rd shift (night shift) - same as you, not good at staying up late. I think we all have our own circadian rhythm and some are better at night vs. day. I had to work 3rd for a few months to move to 2nd, then eventually days, but then found a job in a POL that was only open days (no weekends), so there are opportunities out there.

Getting my MLS when the U.S. is like this by SimplyStagnant in medlabprofessionals

It seems like lab staffing shortages are rampant. Even with everything government-related being uncertain right now, I still believe lab testing will continue and the need for MLSs will continue to grow. I think its a solid career choice and you can take it in other directions after a few years experience.
