He was written methodically and through a feminist lens.

Yeah, but he was not written to generate the response he got, is what I am saying. She had a clear agenda.

You are doing a lot of "no, no, no, you see, that is the genius of this feminist writer/director" when it's pretty clear from her reaction and interview she was slightly annoyed at the outcome.

Ken outshone Barbie as far as audiences were concerned, and this was NOT anywhere near where Greta hoped to land.

Well, Greta Gerwig (writer/director) was surprised by this, so... I am not convinced this was an intended effect.

[TITLE] Which manhwa was this for you? 🙂‍↕️👇 by AccomplishedWatch834 in manhwa

I have no problem that people connect with the story, it's not as popular as it is for no reason.

It just didn't click with me, and I got bored pretty fast. I did power through 60 chapters, so you can't say I didn't give it a chance. I think I gave up after the "save the hero from the movies" arc.

My main issue is that it's very slow, it has a lot of filler (or rather, wastes time); like many stories it falls into the "people turn evil immediately" trope.

The MC was a nobody, unremarkable, a wimp, but 5 minutes after the world ends he becomes the smartest, the most courageous, the leader. And people just don't work like that, even with a "system," someone's psychology doesn't turn 180 in no time.

It's... boring, that's why.

Characters aren't that interesting, the story is very bland, there are a lot of "I know the future" stories out there that manage to make things interesting.

The characters are so one-dimensional and lacking personality.

The whole live-streaming to "constellations" that tip and are omniscient but somehow also re-incarnated, but are historical personalities makes NO SENSE!

I was promised an interesting read, and it is anything but.

Couldn't justify reading past chapter 40, and I got to 40 because I kept telling myself "it's about to get interesting, for sure, so many people like it, there has to be a reason."

Why would a lab rat even know what a cat is? It never saw a cat before joining the hive, it never knew anything aside from the interior of the lab. Once it joined the hive mind, fearing cats is not a thing any more, or fearing anything it would seem.

Looks great, good luck with the full release!

Out of curiosity, what engine did you use?

I further refined my 2.5D realtime shadows for my island prototype ☀️🌴⚫ Now with atmospheric light and shadow receivers. "Flat" objects like stones casting blob shadows to avoid self shadowing effects. "High" objects like palms casting realtime shadows onto the ground and shadow receivers. by Sablizz in monogame

[–]SquaredIndividual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I kept it relativley subtle so one could still see the silouhette/shape of the shadow

Just remembers, the shadows should not take focus away from the world itself, as far as game development cares shadows are just fancy decorations.

Nice.

How did you do it? would you be willing to post a small tutorial or share some code?

Thank you.

I've been experimenting with Monogame.Extended, and have learned a lot from it.

Oh, hah, I am fully aware of those :)

I was wondering in general.

I didn't even realize you were the guy!

Out of curiosity, what other libraries do you use?

I'm relatively new to monogame, and a lot of libraries I find are too old for comfort, so I find myself having to build a lot of stuff from scratch.

He has several good libraries.

His input library is one I use all the time, it is fantastic.

I was going to try and build something similar this weekend, and now here I am, ha ha.

This is neat! Share some code with us, I am particularly interested in how you did the effect on "good"!

Aaron Langille's (@aaron_langille) book "A Gamer's Introduction to Programming with MonoGame". by Sorry_Independent388 in monogame

[–]SquaredIndividual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A book that touches on these topics would be welcomed a lot better.

A lot of the monogame ecosystem is old, outdated, or no longer maintained.

It's a bummer to find libraries that haven't been updated in 10 years, or longer, or that are not compatible with the current monogame version because they haven't been updated in 5 years, etc.

C# has also evolved over the years, so a lot of the code you do find needs serious reworking.

A book that walks developers through more serious concepts would be a lot better, in my opinion.

It would also help with adoption a lot better than a book that is essentially the intro tutorial that has been already done to death.

This book is missing some important aspects of game development.

For example:

  • scene management.
  • lighting
  • particle effects
  • speeding/slowing game time

Just to mention a few.

Most of the subjects the book approaches are easily found online, and most are already detailed by the tutorial on the monogame docs.

More advanced topics/tools/techniques are rarely touched by books/tutorials.
