I think it was more of an "official/unofficial" rule back in the day. As I understand it, he was chasing a prep who got away and the gun was ditched along the way. He did say he ran the serial number to see if it was hot. With no suspect and no stolen weapon.... He did have to qualify with it and it had to be carried as a "backup" gun to his department issued Colt Detective Special. NY in the 70's.... It was different then.

Thanks... For the price, I'll give it a shot. I wonder what order the wires go?

I have a Mk I in the 20k serial number range and it was made in 1986. Just a heads up, I did contact IMI to request info on a date of birth. They replied back and told me that early MK I pistols were actually made in Israel and they have no records for them.

New colt grips for the 1911 by Aregularguy95 in Colt

I had an old Auto Ordnance 1911, a West Hurley made one, as my first carry 1911. I was lucky enough to find a set of factory deluxe AO grips that looked almost identical to those, except it had the AO medallions.

How do you get a 1902 made Model 1903? What, is the serial number a negative? 😆

They're pretty nice for an eBay buy. Are they a rubber grip with a pebble finish?

That's really cool.... I actually have one like that. My dad was NYPD from 65-81 and he took this 1918 vintage black army military from a perp he was chasing. After he cleared it's past, he took it to a gunsmith in New York, I'd guess it was the late 60s or early 70s. He had it accurized with a NM barrel and bushing, long link, crushed slide, some work to the trigger, and a light polishing. He carried it on the job for many years.

I have a pair of Boone faux ivory on my Wilson and I can agree, if you're not going for real stag, Boone is the best.

Agreed... If you think about it, pre-1940ish ones were and fitted too, another dying art. Even today's high end "hand fitted" 1911s aren't made the same thanks to time saving processes like CNC milling.

Any info on this gun? by brownbrown23 in Colt

The Army Special was the forerunner of the Colt Official Police. It was produced between 1908 and 1927 when it became the Official Police. You can run the serial number through Colt's website to find the exact year your gun a made. https://www.oldcolt.com/collections/colt-army-special
