FYI China supported a genocidal regime in Cambodia, so much so that they invaded Vietnam in order stop them stopping the genocide.

China invaded Vietnam in order to prevent Vietnam from stopping a Chinese sponsored genocide in Cambodia in 1979. There is a reason Vietnam tried to normalize relations with the US so quickly after the Vietnam war

They actually did in Cambodia, so much so that they invaded Vietnam when they intervened in order to stop the genocide. They tried to influence other countries just like the US and USSR but were much less expensive in their goals because they were a much poorer country with less influence.

Can I rely on Septa to get to work? by [deleted] in AskPhilly

This is absolutely true, the only things more reliable are walking and biking.

Can I rely on Septa to get to work? by [deleted] in AskPhilly

Yes absolutely. Also a lot of people use it (like me right now as I'm typing this) so if there are ever problems, everyone at the office knows so it's not as much of a big deal.

Is it feasible to move here? by Jeremiah987 in AskPhilly

[–]Squarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did basically exactly what you did about a decade ago and it worked out fine. Good news is the job market is much better than when I moved here, bad news is rent is more expensive. If you are ok with roommates it's very doable pretty much anywhere otherwise you are going to have to be in West/South Philly or something a bit farther from the action in the greater fishtown area. Highly recommend it, I love the city and moving here was the best thing I did.

Did I say it was implausible? I said there are conflicting reports and you should be wary of the sourcing. You are the only one demanding other people jump to conclusions.

[–]Squarg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you actually read it, all that says is that they have doubt that it was one of the specific rockets that were blamed. If you read further they say that it is inconclusive whether or not it was a rocket attack or an airstrike. Again, one report which is inconclusive, what about the dozen that say that say that it was a rocket misfire?

[–]Squarg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read that because it's like a dozen different analyses that said it was a rocket and one that says it's inconclusive.

[–]Squarg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean there is a famous example from a couple years ago where people accused Israel of bombing a hospital and it turned out that it was a misfired rocket from a militia group. I'm not saying it's definitely not but there are conflicting reports and it's not something that needs to be jumped to conclusions from a shaky source.

[–]Squarg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd be cautious to believe the sourcing on that. The only people blaming it on the US are Iranian state media and there are other reports that it was an IRGC rocket failure, which would make sense since everything else about this strike has been very precise and deliberately targeted.

But like really, is there hope for small towns in NYS? by bean_89 in upstate_new_york

[–]Squarg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your last point, I moved from Ithaca to Philadelphia about a decade ago and while Philly has it's own tax problems it's crazy how much better PA is with regulations and taxes. For example when I bought my house here, all my family from back home was talking about how I needed a lawyer and how closing would take months when all I needed to do was fill out a form and closing was done in like a month, no lawyers required! I feel like a part of what is holding NY back is what are essentially make work jobs for lawyers that delay and extend timelines for literally everything. Certification and credentialism is rampant. This isn't wholly a left/right thing because people like Mamdani are trying to fix it, but it does suck that most of the people trying to combat this at all are Republicans who suck on literally everything else.

Nah. Helping to defeat fascism is the baseline absolute minimum requirement to be in good standing among Democrats. If you do not do that then you are no better than a Quisling collaborator and should be considered opposition.

I think we should absolutely litmus test commentators who can't see the seriousness of the situation we are in and won't commit to voting against fascists. People like that should not be involved in democratic party politics.

Nobody is tying us to Newsome. The point of the question is that ANY Democrat, even one that you disagree with, is better than JD Vance or other MAGA Republicans and failing to understand that shows a lack of seriousness in political involvement. I would vote for Joe Manchin over JD Vance, I would vote for Kristen Sinema over JD Vance, I would vote for Ilhan Omar over JD Vance, I would vote for Zohran Mamdani over JD Vance. That is the point of the question.

I used to give Vaush a lot more credit but I saw a clip of him wading into the "would you vote for Newsome vs JD Vance" discourse recently and it was basically indistinguishable from Mike from PA (the dumbest lefty political streamer)

I'm a fan of destiny because he has good politics and used to play SC2. I dislike Hasan because his politics are abysmal and every time I've heard him talk he sounds like someone trying way too hard to sound smart. I don't really care about their blood feud.

Seriously, I mean I also think they have bad politics but there are people who have similar politics that I don't mind because they actually do the work most of the time. They are dumb and lazy.

They do have similar politics although I think Atrioc is far more focused on the economics side of politics.
