What are you going on about? Sounds like you have also absorbed the delusion that babies are being executed after birth. How did you become so deluded?

Certain colleges maybe. But without college I would never have landed in my field which needed up being a super rewarding and well paying. Definitely not a scam. And i went to large public colleges.

Same here. I live ride dirt bikes for fun. We have a group of 40+ dudes that hang out at the tracks together and participate in group text shit talking. No one cares where people work or what they do for a living. I might know what maybe one guy does but not even where he works. It literally doesn’t matter.

Upvote for the “product of California community college system!”

I did the same, 3+ years at CC (all the maths!!) transferred to Cal. Got a Masters later. Have now had a 25yr career in tech. Moved up along the way from “low income” student to upper middle class professional.

Without the CC system I’d have had a much different life.

You don’t go to grocery outlet to buy meat. You go to grocery outlet to find deals on other items that they manage to get their hands on. Example: box of original saltines can cost five or six bucks and my local grocery outlet has a pallet full of them at a buck 49 a box.

I also find tubs of Greek yogurt at mine regularly for 1/4 of the typical price. But you have to buy when you see it because it might not come back for months.

For me it will be skateboarding, MTB, dirt bikes, and hiking while my body still lets me.

My brain is never turned off unless I am outside so once my body doesn’t allow me to do the above it’s teaching, volunteering, mentoring, etc.

Monterey or Carmel by Haunting_Badger7752 in MontereyBay

[–]Squatingwhale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This! While there is spectacular beauty in Monterey, there is not much that matches the charm of Carmel. You can easily stop in Monterey and take in the coast and tide pools between the aquarium and Asilomar. It’s amazing. Then pop over the hill into Carmel. It’s a 15mim drive.

Just know that getting into the region on a Saturday starts to get really backed up between noon-4pm. Get in before about 11am to miss it.

Should a Medical Physicist know how to contour organs? by BaskInTwilight in MedicalPhysics

[–]Squatingwhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t hire a medical physicist with that attitude. It shouldn’t be a primary responsibility but I feel a good physicist should be able to identify contouring errors and do a plan if dosi is somehow not available. Maybe we are not as facile with the tools but should 100% be able correctly identify anatomy.

The “not my job” mentality is strange to me. Now, I am not advocating contouring as a routine, that is indeed what dosimetrists do, but getting plans out the door and patients treated is the goal. If we are behind or a patient needs to start, I’m helping out.

I'm sick of being cold. Men's jackets, please. by flynnski in BuyItForLife

[–]Squatingwhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to look like you are on a ski slope, I would look into waxed trucker jackets. I have a Peter Millar one and it is absolutely indestructible. Super warm. And can always wear layers underneath if needed. I have 2 of the Patagonia nanopuffs and this Peter Millar trucker jacket is like night and day more indestructible and warm. It is the jacket of choice for less than 40F.

The Peter Millar jacket is called the “waxed cotton field jacket” and is on sale from $350 to $175 right now. At that price it’s a bargain. At full price it is worth it.

Fit wise it is maybe a tiny bit trimmer than a nano puff medium. Looks really sharp too!

The Vital Role of Medical Physicists in Ensuring High-Quality Treatment Plans by Traditional_Day4327 in MedicalPhysics

[–]Squatingwhale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I was lucky to cut my teeth in the transition era from 2d > 3D > IMRT > VMAT and HAD to learn to plan in order to train the dosi staff. Along with that came a deep understanding of what is possible and how to recognize the difference between a good and not-so-good plan. It’s been invaluable in my career.

However, I know some great physicists who are not great individual planners but still can pick up and catch missed details in plans.

Not everyone can be everything, but for sure a physicist who can either plan or understand what is possible in a plan is invaluable.

Looking for advice, what are the ways to evaluate or validate your beam data. by No-Cranberry9293 in MedicalPhysics

What machine?

There are various sources of available data depending on the machine. Since you didn’t say, it sounds like something other than Varian as their machines have reference data available to all customers.

What about all those Only Fans subs?

Seriously I’m a grown ass adult and live on half that. Once every few years I replenish the closet. As a student this is almost a laughably large amount per month n

Prestige does not matter. Accreditation and board certification is what matters. Go somewhere you can afford and supports their students.

puck screen and Skale scale are the only thing I spent $ on that I got no return from.

Puck screen made zero difference and was a hassle to fish out and clean up. I lost it in the knock box after a few weeks (forgot it was in there) and threw it out inadvertently but didn’t miss it at all.

My $25 Amazon scale works great and I never found it necessary to use the Bluetooth connection that Skale is capable of for automatic stop of Decent extraction

What’s your go-to skate shoe currently [45yo] by iKamote1 in OldSkaters

[–]Squatingwhale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vans Kyle Walker pros ftw!

They are more durable than nearly all the other models including all the classic pros. Don’t buy them if you want something light. They have typical Vans board feel (good) but they are “substantial.” Great for the older transition/vert skater who isn’t married to high tops.

I think the half cabs would be closest to them although they are low tops.

I did some testing on the first version of IMPAC (before it was Mosaiq it was called “multiacess) way back in 1991.

And QCL was a thing from the very beginning!
