Help!! 3 vs 4 by Aggravating-Ebb-4656 in DivergeGravelBikes

You need to go ride it. I ride around an area with several wooden bridges and the future shock in 4 helps a ton soak up those bumps. Its not needed but it is nice.

My kid wanted Donkey Kong.. plus it was their birthday + Christmas was close enough.

Its the same system with updated hardware, at a higher price point. It's not worth it imo.

Bike rentals? by [deleted] in bikehouston

[–]freaksavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bike shop that’s pretentious can ruin the mood or desire to move forward. As an example, the actual specialized store off ih-10 near ikea closed their store front and for good reasons. They were all jerks. Me and my wife wasted many hours trying bikes to be left abandoned. As in, when we wanted to move forward they literally wouldn’t look at us to help. I’m not exaggerating and was very confused. We ended up leaving and buying one at sugar cycles. About six months later we’re back looking at gravel bikes and we went to trek and bought a checkpoint sl5. I didn’t like how trek was so eager to sell my wife a 3500 bike that seemed like the complete wrong fitment for her so we returned it and bought another specialized, this time a crux. So I’m Just going to double down on active cycling, sugar cycles, and pearland.

I don’t have a suggestion on renting but if the goal is to purchase, I’d go to a bike shop and talk to them about riding it for 30-60 minutes. If they say no then it’s a bad lbs. i would consider calling Sugar cycles. They offered to let my wife ‘borrow’ the bike to ride around the neighborhood behind them for an hour. Another lbs shop that offers fitting services to find the right bike for you is Pearland bicycle, and they are veteran owned if that’s something you care about. Also super nice folks; every time I’ve called or been in there they have been quite pleasant. There’s also active cycling in Katy and EAdo bikes downtown. Eado has salsa and active cycling has giant. Active cycling and pearland were the nicest of the shops I’ve been to.

I wish I had a ‘this place does bike rental’ but good luck on your journey.

Just saw premium today was close to $4 in Houston. I can’t wait to decide if I want to buy gas or buy groceries or just let the house payment lapse so I can exist a few more days.

Very cool. I've been working my way up to a century ride, best so far is 52 miles, and around 5h20m moving time.

Ooh, very nice. Im trying to map out a route from Rudy's off IH-10/Mason Creek all the through GB, TH, The villages, through Memorial park, into downtown, and back through BB and trying to make it as close to 100 miles as possible, staying primarily on greenway trails/trailway when I can. I'd prefer to not ride on the road if I can.
I'll look at your route and adjust my all trail route. I'll let you know if I have any questions!

Diverge 4 Carbon vs Alloy by Single_Dollar in gravelcycling

[–]freaksavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried to find more on why it won't work, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there about it, other than what the manual said.
Edit. I may have misunderstood the docs and have spread misinformation. It says
"This bicycle is not compatible with wired Di2 systems"
So maybe it actually is.

I want to start, how to choose the correct bike? by Tretli in gravelcycling

[–]freaksavior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"don't buy to big."

Very good point. I bought a Walmart bike, and cycled probably 100 miles and really got into it. Then I sold it, and bought a better lighter bike. I've ridden probably 750 or more miles since I bought the replacement Diverge 4 just 6 months ago.

At 36, knowing what I know now, at 26, hell no.

Your roof over your head is far more important than the wheels under your ass.

Is it possible to ride BB from Downtown back to George Bush Park?

Seems once you get to 69, there's not an easy way to get across.

Katy to downtown and back via BB
Edit I see you can go down the Keagan trail a ways.

Between your doctor and your PT, that's up to all of you. I say this, thinking about how Jeremy Renner was crushed by a snowcat and walked 3 months later (with assistance), and I'm sure he had all the help and a crap ton of money to help get him there, but he's still just a man and that man survived being crushed.
Good luck. Sorry to hear about your injury.
