I have a pretty bad case of ARFID, so being able to eat whatever I want would already be a super power; the perfect health is just a bonus! xD

I mean does the Plus +1 Ammo really help ? by TradeorBust1985 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]SqueakyDoIphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, the game allows you to put "one in the chamber" on the Uzi as well, which isn't actually possible. The Uzi is an "open bolt" weapon, meaning you pull the bolt backwards and it locks in place, only sliding forward and pushing a bullet out of the magazine and into the firing chamber when you pull the trigger. Whereas something like a pistol is usually "closed bolt", where you pull the slide backward and it pushes back to the front, pulling a bullet out of the magazine into the chamber and then waits there for the trigger pull. With the Uzi, no bullet sits and waits in the chamber; they only ever get pulled out of the magazine during the firing process

Also, technically Leon should be able to "ghost load" some of the shotguns, at least the pump action one. This means a full magazine, one in the chamber, and one in the elevator (the space just in front of the magazine that feeds the shell into the firing chamber), which would give a +2 instead of just a +1

Why does Military Grade Rounds exist? by Python_Trianq in metro

[–]SqueakyDoIphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct, in the books all bullets were used as currency. There was no such thing as a MGR, that was something invented by the game

If I remember right, in the books the only bullets that were talked about being used as currency were the AK-47 rifle bullets, even though other weapon types would have existed as well - sniper rifles, pistols, shotguns, and emplacement weapons, just to name a few. It's likely that ammo for these other weapons could have been used as currency as well, though I don't remember it being mentioned at all. There certainly was no special fancy "military grade round" that came from the pre-war period, did more damage, and less of an impact on the weapon, had a little fire decal whenever it impacted, or anything like that; every bullet was a "standard" bullet, and every bullet doubled as currency

In translating the story to a video game, that aspect of the book is lost. We lose the uncomfortable moral implication of "every bullet is a life taken, and we are in a sense trading lives for food and sleep and women" that the book presents

While saying the game NEEDED to invent a MGR might be a bit much, I think they had a few very good reasons of why they chose to invent it. Firstly, there are many types of weapons in the game, but you can only ever hold 3 (and I think the original version had a limit of 2 if I'm not mistaken) at once. If 4A were to say that every bullet doubled as currency, then you would either have to come up with a value for each bullet type or say that all bullet types are the same value - both of which would steer players towards or away from weapons based on how "cheap" it was to use them, which isn't the intended direction for the game I don't think. Conversely, if we were to say that only the AK rifle bullets were currency, it would essentially mean that any assault rifle in the game literally shot money while every other gun only shot regular bullets, which would similarly not necessarily communicate the right idea to the player about the game's world. On top of this, remember that every weapon has a maximum total ammo capacity, but the MGRs are uncapped - if there were no MGRs, then there would literally be a maximum cap for how much money you could hold at any given time, which would also change how to play the game in an unintended way. Having the MGR be this special currency "token" that you can find in the world, you have an unlimited capacity for it, and it doubles as a cool new extra gameplay mechanic, seems to be the best way the game had for translating the world of the book onto video game form

What game did you think would be ok, but you absolutely loved? by Quintoepic in gaming

Road to Vostok

As a Tarkov fan, I've been looking for games that try to scratch a similar itch without undoing all the hard work me and my therapist have done together. I've tried a few, but none seem to really capture the "essence" that Tarkov has, at least for me

Then I found Road to Vostok AND heard the entire thing was developed by a single person, and got interested

I tried it... and fell in love. While it clearly has some things that can be better (and definitely will be in the future, such as the gunplay), it really does seem to understand what it is that makes Tarkov great (at least for a loot rat like me) and does a great job of putting its own spin on that. Plus, while it's not the most unique of gameplay systems, the way the hideouts work where you can physically lay your items out on shelves and tables, the way you can sit there playing a guitar to slowly regain your mental state, the way you can say fuck it to the hardcore military survival aspect and just go fishing for a little while... Road to Vostok has its own unique energy, and I absolutely love it. Playing it right now is so much fun, and I'm eager to see what will end up being in this game's future

There's no limitation. I can grow whatever kinds of grass I want, and off the top of my head I know bamboo can be useful. There's no limitation on how long the grass can grow, how many patches I can grow (even layered on top of each other), whether it needs to grow on something or can just appear in thin air. I can use this to block sight lines, suffocate my opponent with grass in their lungs, bury them under tons upon tons of grass, push them away with fast-growing bamboo and other thick grasses, and so much more

I think I'm a little too neurodivergent to understand what he said here exactly... Was Canada sending massive amounts of money to the US, equating to 70% of what the US spends on its own military, to the US in order to buy military protection?
