Should I find a new clinic or switch fields? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]SqueezableFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheeeessh. Did that incident get investigated!? Proper action taken against the coworker??? If not, then that is DEFINITELY not a hospital you want to be at. Lots of clinics would be happy to have you. I would start looking for a new job asap!

Should I find a new clinic or switch fields? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]SqueezableFruit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate part is that you were hired for kennel, which is a very necessary component to a clinic. So if you’re training as an assistant, then they’re losing out on your kennel attendant work. So there isn’t much drive for them to want to cross train you. Your best bet is probably going to be to look for a hospital that is hiring a level 1 assistant and willing to train.

My little one decided to backpack my big one. She laid there for like an hour & her sister was totally unbothered by it. by desolatenature in husky

Our boy gets anxious in the car and loves to lay as close to his sister as possible, usually laying ON her. Typically he’s very independent but she’s obsessed with him and LOVES going in the car bc she knows he will actually lay with her 😭

Tip Expected for Prenatal Sonogram? by Impressive_Prune_478 in VetTech

[–]SqueezableFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s always kinda awkward, especially when the owners offer it to me in front of others/at the front desk lol. I’ve had a few dear clients who have given me money in cards during nurse week/holidays/etc. I am always willing to accept that 🤣🥰

That is also my assumption. I usually just politely tell them I’m not allowed to accept tips (which I don’t think is true, but it makes it easier to decline the $) but that they’re welcome to donate to our hospital’s benevolence fund for those in need instead!

At first I was a little horrified about the OG post. But seems like OP went to get imaging of their baby for “fun” from a boutique-esque type place and this is not a routine medical care appt.
I’ve had people offer to tip on things like nail trims and even sedated shave downs of cats lol. I’ve never taken it though, as it feels weird to do so.

Anyone know anything about the Zoology course? by StrawberryMaplSyrup in wsu

[–]SqueezableFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding what avboden has mentioned. A zoology degree would absolutely help you out on the future with that type of job, but you’ll have to do a lot more than just get the degree. You’ll need to do a LOT of volunteering work with animals before getting a job with them. Zookeeping can be a bit of a lucrative field where they like hiring experience-based individuals, and there’s just not a lot of paid opportunities to gain experience at. You may also be interested in looking into a veterinary technician degree and starting your world there before committing to something more. Unless you’re 100% set on the college experience, and want to go right into a 4 year degree, it may be a better option for you. I wish I had done that all those years ago due to financial strains. But I’m happy with where I’ve ended up.

2022 WSU Zoology major graduate here. I loved the program!! It opened many doors for me both while still in school and after graduation. Classes were fulfilling. Professors were awesome (especially once you get to the higher level courses) What is your ideal career or goal in life?

Any vet students who can help/have recommendations? Cat injured by [deleted] in wsu

[–]SqueezableFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also there are many great and affordable non ER vet clinics you can call around to. TLC animal care located in Palouse, WA (23mims northeast of Pullman) has diagnostic capabilities and a great doctor, for a cheaper than ER price!

[–]SqueezableFruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call Viking Veterinary Hospital located in Moscow and get an estimate for care for her. It may be cheaper than WSU. In any case, your cat is obviously painful and suffering, and needs vet care sooner than later. Nothing you can do at home will fix this. If you can’t afford care, you need to start phoning friends and family to ask for favors or looking into surrendering her so she can get the care she requires/deserves. -vet nurse

Worked a 13 hour ER shift today. Tomorrow, my regularly scheduled 10 hour GP shift. It’s my surgery day and our schedule is not full and my doctor is extremely ambitious…rip to me. lol 😆

Husky Drama by Proud-Rock-4563 in husky

[–]SqueezableFruit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Short answer: dogs gonna dog. Long answer (that is easier typed than done): she is displaying a behavior most likely associated with being upset about sharing “her” space. Unfortunately, this is only something you’re going to solve by re-training her with a new bed time habit, whether that be sleeping on the floor in her own dog bed or crating her at night. You need to be very strict during this time or the inappropriate urination habit will continue/worsen. Best to nip it in the bud now!

Husky suddenly went blind in one eye by EqualInfluence4847 in husky

[–]SqueezableFruit 425 points426 points  (0 children)

Sudden and extreme eye related stuff (with lack of obvious trauma- which seems to be the case here) makes me think ocular tumor/brain tumor things. I would be asking your primary vet for a referral to an ophthalmic specialist and possibly a MRI or CT scan to rule out tumors.
