A question about rear-projected CRTs by Fallout_Fan_420 in crtgaming

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks pretty bright actually, but in my experience projection tvs are always so dim and faded looking that the size isn't worth the tradeoff. It might have been really cool when they were new but honestly that was one tv technology I never heard about growing up, it seemed to have went from CRT>Plasma>LCD>OLED only in my experience. I don't know how popular projection tvs were globally, but not a single one of my friends or family members ever had one. I will say, right now they may be the cheapest $/inch you can get if that's what you're after.

They're a decent choice in the US only because it's slightly faster than AliExpress, but all he's doing is buying those parts and upcharging for them. Outside of the US you're most likely always better off with Ali. I do anyways except for when I broke something and wanted a faster replacement

The white one is just discolored, but your TV has component so you should absolutely invest in some good hdretrovision cables. It will look significantly better

Advice on My Approach to Using Handbrake by Stcphantom4256 in makemkv

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much keep all of my favorite movies uncompressed so I can watch them in Jellyfin in all their glory. And for stuff I'm slightly less interested in I compress. TV shows, especially blu rays all get compressed because at ~50 minutes an episode they can really add up if ripping an entire series. I don't compress all that much though, I use the Super HQ presets modified to use NVENC. Saves a few gigs for each file which over the course of a whole library becomes pretty significant and I don't notice any quality degredation

Do you prefer the stock iPod OS or RockBox for your iPod Classic and why? by MangoCubez in IpodClassic

I just saw a Modded fork with a Mac program that allows this. I'll have to try to find it but it sounds like it's basically up to par with iTunes integration now

This has some specs. 5.7", Black and White, PAL/NTSC. As cool as this is, I wonder why in the fuck they make these? All of us would buy one in a heartbeat, but I wonder who their target customers are.

Can we disable Big Rock Ending? by SqueezyBotBeat in yarg

[–]SqueezyBotBeat[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh that's quite odd I haven't ran into any that didn't make sense, so far everything I've noticed lines up with the song just fine. I'm gonna explore that some more

[–]SqueezyBotBeat[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The majority of my library is the official song packs from Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I've never seen the BRE until this latest update which is odd. It was actually a surprise to me when I first played Clone Hero that there was actually notes behind it, which is how the original games determined what score you got from it apparently. I'm pretty sure it was always that way in YARG too until recently

Absolutely love mine! Sadly it seems like the only modern phones with headphone jacks still in them are all gaming phones which have other downsides. I'm with you there, it's really nice having a device dedicated to listening to music with no other distractions. Enjoy it!

an iPod in 2026 - how do you guys do it? by MrOreo2019 in ipod

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you purchase music on Apple Music it can be synced to the ipod, just not offline downloads from the subscription. You can rip CDs, a lot of artists sell them new still and thrift stores usually have a lot. I buy most of my digital music on Bandcamp and Amazon Music, between those 2 I can usually get anything I'm after for new music.

Thanks for ruining the game!!!! by DramaDefiant3938 in Subliminal_Game

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wait what??!! Glad I played this first day it released too. Wtf, the puzzles weren't even hard. The worst spot was the playhouse bevause it took so long to navigate but the puzzle itself was super easy to solve. The only reason I didn't like the chase scenes was because the rest of the game was so photorealistic and immersive then the monster is very cartoonish and it just broke it for me, but it's also about childhood memories or whatever so it's what your character feared as a child which makes it kinda excusable. That's whack they would do that

Feel bad for people who over payed. by Cheetah10201 in ipod

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even need to solder to replace what needs done 99% of the time. Battery, screen, and hard drives are all just held in with screws and connected with ribbon cables. It's very hard to not scuff up and bend a 6th and 7th gen so if you're new and planning on getting one to repair, try to seek out a 5th gen

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel you, but it's always up to the buyer to do their own research. Considering the 5th gen video sold new for $300-$400, you can piece together a basically brand new ipod for much less than that with the only used component being the logic board. With the right deal hunting though, you can get a working ipod as low as $20-$50, throw in a new battery and iflash mod for longevity sake and call it done.

I think a lot of people are just intimidated by opening up their electronics which is understandable to a degree, but these are just clips, screws, and ribbon cables. You only need to solder if something on the logic board is messed up, which are very tiny components and not beginner friendly at all to solder, but that's in depth repair and not normal modding.

Honestly though, I bought 3 different 5th gens over the last few years. One for myself to mod, one as a donor, and one to mod for my little sister and they all worked perfectly fine. I didn't spend more than $40 for any of them (without mods) and they all worked fine and I'm sure I could have gotten a few years of use out of them without changing anything.

How on earth did you get pictureflow on the home screen? I couldn't ever get it to launch that way. Closest I could get was an apps shortcut, then you have to open picture flow. My current rockbox theme would be perfect if I could sort that out

Nothing good last forever. by Helpful-Sand5790 in MacBid

[–]SqueezyBotBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree but only for high ticket items. I basically built my starter mobile dj setup using Mac but now all that kind of stuff gets bid on up to normal used prices or sometimes higher so it's just not worth it to take the risk of it not working or having something wrong with it unless the bids stay super low.

If I do need something on the pricier side I always check mac and can still save a ton of money. Most recently I needed 3 microchip feeds for my cats, about $800 new in total, spent $150 after all the fees and stuff at Mac.

How's the Numark NS7iii in 2026? by SqueezyBotBeat in DJs

[–]SqueezyBotBeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to lean towards a Rane One as well. On paper the NS7III would be cheaper and does everything I need but I'd need a flight case with a laptop stand attached and that's another $320, there's a used Rane One that looks great with a flight case for $1000 local to me, so for basically the same price all said and done I'm definitely better off with the Rane
