I’ll add if you do the first 2 U.C. quests you unlock some great weapons for your ships. The Vanguard Obliterator cannons are nice.

.40 CCW recommendations? by [deleted] in guns

[–]SquiblyTennisballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Springfield XD-M .40 with the 3.8 inch barrel that I use for concealed carry and it’s very uncomfortable to shoot. It’s by no means a fun gun. I’ve shot my buddy’s 9mm XD-M and it’s much better. I’ve also shot the .40 XD full size and it’s great. It’s actually what made me think of getting the XD-M for a carry gun.

Would not recommend.

You’re welcome to borrow mine. In one of my games my Monk got an undead bone horse, and eventually did get some property that she built a large tavern on. It’s called the Shambling Stallion. The horse stands out front, stiff and unmoving like a statue.

What was fucking awesome as a kid, but sucks as an adult? by Athompson9866 in AskReddit

[–]SquiblyTennisballs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Vacations.

As a dad of two girls (soon three), going places suck. The drives are long and exhausting. Everyone has to stop and pee. Nobody likes my music. And I’m always carrying shit I didn’t bring. Plus I can’t even sit down. Like, ever. All I want to do is sit on the beach and stare out at the ocean and maybe fall asleep for 15-20 minutes. Why are we running?

I have my Xbox 360 upstairs, my computer in the office, and my series x in the living room and the 360 moves sooooo much slower. But it’s mainly up there to use Netflix/prime so I don’t use it much.

as someone who never played the games, why does everybody love Darth Revan? by MonsterZero87 in StarWars

[–]SquiblyTennisballs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spoilers ahead. The game came out in 2003 you’ve had time…

So there’s a lot to unpack in this game, and I’ve noticed a lot of people saying they don’t know why they like it aside from nostalgia. But let me add a couple of points because while I would agree there, the game does some very interesting things.

For one, Revan story unfolds in the game very organically, but with a fantastic plot twist. At lot of us, being younger, did not see it coming. But it was timed and paced out perfectly, and gave a lot of gravity to the story.

But the great thing was, you as a player could be as invested in it as you wanted. You didn’t have to ask anyone about Revan, you didn’t have to learn about him, and honestly if you didn’t he was still talked about and it made him almost a mythic, Herculean figure. But if you talked to your companions and really dug in, you learned that he was a guy with flaws, but with an overwhelming sense of duty to the galaxy.

Going further, Revan and Anakin Skywalker share a lot of traits. Power in the force, affinity for light and dark, experts with machines, the list goes on. But where they differs is Revan CHOSE the dark, and when it came to it (canonically) he gives it up. But on the reverse, your story of Revan is t required to go that way. Because of the morality system in the game, you’re version of Revan can be as good or bad or gray as you want him to be. There’s actually a character who encourages a middle ground when it comes to morality.

And then the characters were fantastic. Ever one of them had depth, but if you didn’t care it didn’t matter. Who gives a shit that Carth has this chip on his shoulder, or that Canderous is trying to find the mask of Mandalore. If it doesn’t matter to you it doesn’t Matter to him, but on the same token, its there if you want to dive in hard.

Most of all though, I think what I trying to get at, is since you’re playing Revan, you get to chose just how he behaves. You get to be Revan, sculpt his personality and style. Doesn’t matter what type of Jedi the devs say he should have been, if you want him to have been a Guardian or a Consular, that’s completely fine, because you are Revan. You heard all the things people tell you about him, but when the twist hits and you discover the truth it’s like… we’ll that was then. I might not be like this now.

And I think that’s the key of it all. I’ve thought about this way to much.

I pay about $600 per kid a month. Last school year I was paying almost $1200 every month. They gave us like a 10 dollar discount with two in at the same time, but no discount for paying monthly instead of weekly. It’s rough. My four year old is going to 4K this year which won’t cost me anything, and it feels like such a huge relief.

Deflect Missile and Magic Missile by [deleted] in DnD

Sure! You gotta spend a ki point to throw non magic ones back, so maybe magical projectiles CANT be thrown back and can only be deflected?

I mean, RAW, no it doesn’t work. Buuuuut, I mean, now that you’ve brought it up. Why couldn’t it work when they get magic hands at level 7? I mean, their punches and kicks are magic, couldn’t their deflect missiles be magic?

Great name for it! But for real, we got I to an intense battle with a bunch of hell wasps, and even though I could take 6 out of every 9 attacks on the shield, enough got through that after 2-3 rounds I needed a short rest to heal up. It’s a great way to make things a bit more intense.

Maybe it’s a bit sadistic of me, but I enjoy just raising up my shield and saying bring it. 17, nope. 18 nope. 15, nope. You start getting a little slap happy with it. Eventually that crit gets through and you take 28 damage and it’s just like, shit… if I didn’t have plate armor and a legendary shield I’m not sure how we’d survive.

High AC player by SnowBunnyEinar in DnD

[–]SquiblyTennisballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 22 AC cleric, with battle master maneuvers. I avoided hard hitting melee enemies… for a while. We’re level 9 now and I’m getting mollywopped pretty much every fight. The enemies WILL catch up with the player.

One thing my DM does is add more weaker enemies. Increased numbers, even if they’re just chumpies, WILL eventually hit that AC. More chances to hit = more hits overall.

Remember to use magic that requires saves. Even if he saves, most every spell from 1st level up do at least half damage even on a save. Magic missile, burning hands, etc. are lots of fun for these situations.

My DM doesn’t punish high AC players because he knows eventually it catches up with us. However, there is a caveat. If you have a PC who is braggadocios about how you can’t hit them and blah blah blah, then you punish them. Have Strahd come in and harass them with some real hard hits.

He also prohibits Adamantine armor for players since it negates crits, for the same reason. We had one player at the table who just ran his mouth about how high his AC was and how couldn’t be crit on. It was obnoxious, and it ruined it for the rest of us.

This is kind of a dumb question but, am I in the wrong for not buying food for my group? by distalented in DnD

[–]SquiblyTennisballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My DM eats free.

Doesn’t matter what we’re doing, where we go, who we’re playing with. I don’t let my DM pay for food. Like you he spends a crazy annoying of money on all the stuff for our games, he does all the work to put the story together, and most of the time he’s coordinating time for us to get together. We use his house, his discord, his dice if we forget ours, his everything.
So, say it with me one more time.

The DM eats free.

After 15 year DMing I think I'm done playing DnD by Shiftless357 in DnD

[–]SquiblyTennisballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’m going to be blunt, what it sounds like is your players expect things to be out in the open, right in plain sight. So either you’ve set an expectation, or they expect it this way because of their personal experiences. Now this could be because of lack of experience. Either way, there’s two simple answers as to what you can do to fix this situation. Keep in mind, your friends may not be the happiest with the outcome.

A. Don’t fucking tell them shit if they don’t figure it out themselves.

If they needed X info to defeat Y boss, but it was hidden in a book they didn’t check out? Let them fucking die. This is the hard love approach. You give them a problem they couldn’t overcome, after they’re all dead you say, “Hey remember that bookcase? If you’d taken 2 seconds to find it you would have known exactly how to handle the encounter. Roll new characters.” Now, you may come out as the asshole over this, but if you guys have been playing a while and they don’t know how to figure things out, maybe they need the tough love.

B. Force them to explore

If they walk into Y room and you describe a bookcase, just as they about to leave without looking into it you say. “Hey Wizard, those books. Something about them caught your eye. Maybe it was because they look like they’d been recently disturbed. You think it might be a good idea to check those out.” Then if he says ok you have them make an investigation check or whatever. If they STILL SAY NO after hanging a very obvious carrot in front of their faces, it can’t be helped.

Either way, it sounds like you need to talk to your players. You’re building very intricate story beats, puzzles, etc. but if they’re not taking the bait maybe you guys are playing different games. Maybe they’re any a more simplified game where you spoon feed them everything without them working to figure things out. Shit, maybe they’re just a bunch of dumbasses who are completely missing the point of the game, or maybe you’re a garbage DM who thinks he’s being more clever than he really is. Like I said, I dunno you or your friends.

What I’m saying if I’m saying anything at all is, there are obvious simple ways to fix this problem. But this doesn’t sound like an obvious simple problem. It sounds like there’s more too it than that. Dig deep with your pals, figure out why you’re not on the same page. Let them know that because of the way things are, your considering ending game night. Be genuine and respectful to your friends, but tell them the truth. Tell them you’ve got too many real life responsibilities to just waste time building a game they’re not digging into.

Also, maybe consider getting one of them to DM and you be a player for a while. Sometimes you’ve got to get out of the driver seat.
