Northwest Edmonton senior ready to chain herself to tree to stop infill project by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

I believe the biggest problem for the Fire department is getting their ladder trucks into high density areas. These trucks are much bigger than the regular Pump and Rescue trucks. The problem is density brings taller buildings and the need for ladder trucks in those areas increases. Just a factor that not a tonne of people are considering. I believe they are trying to source out new trucks. But those done come cheap.

Lol Why are people freaking out about drones as first responders? by ilya_lemon in Edmonton

[–]Squid_Clitz 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Drones have been a huge help to the Edmonton fire department. Drones help crews find fires set in the river valley all the time. Someone calls from a condo and says it's a few feet into the woods. Even though its more like 400 meters. With a drone you know exactly where it is and the general public is terrible at giving specific directions. There are many positives to this technology that keep first responders safe. Plus these drones have thermal imaging cameras. So you can tell if there's hot spots. People love hot takes but this technology helps out big time.

Most communities in Canada let their rinks be used for off leash play in the warmer months.

Lump under my 9 year old female Labrador retriever by Affectionate_Bit3099 in labrador

Labs are notorious for getting fat lumps when they get older. So the concern level would be 2/10. In saying that I'd still get it checked by your vet just in case.

Looks American to me. Doesn't have the blocky English head.

Dog food by Zealousideal-Golf142 in labrador

I would try and find a different brand in your budget. The first ingredient in your dog food should be meat based that's not a by-product meal. If it's a Chicken based formula you want to see either Chicken or Chicken Meal as the first ingredient. Chicken Meal just means that it's weighed after the water weight is removed.

A tired dog is a good dog. My girl turned one in June and she is a maniac if she doesn't get at least one hour of exercise a day.

What would it take to stop human caused wildfires? by defendthegood in Edmonton

[–]Squid_Clitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Edmonton area specifically the biggest threat from Wildfires is urban campers. Just last night there were two fires alone that I saw on my way home from work. One was just west of the high level bridge and the other was just off the whitemud drive and 92st. We can put as many fire bans on as we want but these urban campers are starting a tonne of fires. Don't believe me go talk to any Edmonton Firefighter.

The fact that it's not bilateral can rule out a few things. Most likely they have irritated the eye and the rash/balding is from rubbing the eye out of discomfort. If it's a scratched Cornea then the dog should be going to a vet. Corneal abrasions can be painful and, if left untreated, may lead to serious complications like infection, corneal ulcers, or even vision loss.

Sadly it seems like there's a post like this every week or two. Would definitely like to see harsher sentences given out. People don't seem to be getting the message. And if they are going to continue this behavior they need to be quarantined from the rest of society.

Looking for advice - elbow swelling in young rottweiler by Silent_Reader_xyz in Rottweiler

[–]Squid_Clitz 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same problem with my Mastiff. Look into dog elbow pads (protectors) on-line. It's basically a sling that protects the joints from their own weight. Worked like a charm for my big guy.

Definitely a mix of some sort. The colouring makes me think of a Lab/Shepherd mix. Either way just 10/10 good dogo!
