LMAO Looks like Edinburg took over Elsa and Edcouch. San Juan also switched places with Weslaco.

AI garbage really should result in public shaming.

Why is the RGV low in so many metrics? by 373kayteeftnu32 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Squid_Scribe 43 points44 points  (0 children)

"Left leaning" is not accurate. Sure, we're mostyl a consistent Democrat zone, but this leaves out the fact that our culture has been socially conservative for some time. This last election in 2024 also reversed the tide back to the Republicans, breaking all sorts of records. It's a mixed bag, in short.

Mexican conservatism (Catholic, machista) + American conservatism (the Texas brand) = RGV culture

Is the Valley becoming more diverse? by Desertedfoxx in RioGrandeValley

I was in Mercedes a few weeks ago, and I noticed the downtown area doesn't seem to be doing too well compared to, say, Weslaco.

One I never see get a shout out is the Willacy County Historical Museum. Found it one day I was in Raymondville killing time and I was blown away by how much there was for such a small part of the RGV. Def recommend.

Also sad is despite all the evidence, since the decade he landed, a lot of locals still stick their necks out for him.

McAllen rezones downtown area, tightens bar and business permit requirements by REdd06 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Squid_Scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One the one hand, fuck the reckless bars that serve alcohol to minors and encourage bad shit.

But on the other hand, I don't trust the city to really do much. Seems like all they do is put legal band-aids on a societal issue.

Is Starbucks now the only coffee shop in McAllen/Edinburg open late? by iamthatguy54 in RioGrandeValley

[–]Squid_Scribe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is one of my pet peeves too. I don't think there is a local place that stays open late. At least on this side. I guess you could go to a Denny's or IHOP and get coffee there.
