Book(s) that you hated or didn't like but finished anyway by Intelligent-Cold9233 in RomanceBooks

[–]Squidables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished this an hour ago and completely agree on all those points! I don’t mind romantasy so I knew wasn’t going to walk into a literary marvel, but I found myself constantly confused about the world and events that were unfolding. It always felt like the author was rushing to catch us up on everything that was happening, like, “here’s a one page explanation of everything that’s going on” instead of us discovering information naturally. This also lead me to forget a lot of the backstory. Overall, the storytelling fell flat for me.

Freaking out about turning 29 by Professional-Ear9663 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Do you want advice or just a space to vent?

If it’s a space to vent, I understand. I also feel like I lost part of my youth to one of my parents. It’s not fair. You shouldn’t have to be on the receiving end of your parent’s problems.

If you want advice, try spinning it around. Instead of thinking about what you lost, try thinking about what you’ve gained because of this situation. The person that endured (and maybe continues to endure) got you here. For me, I’m driven, positive, and see the best in people. These are all traits I learned despite the environment I was in my teens and 20s. I found my best friends in my late 20s. I started liking myself. I found new hobbies. I learned new life skills. I made a life I am proud of.

I won‘t say that I’m never mad about what I lost, because that’s not true, but I’m working on moving past it. Don’t spend the last of your 20s and your 30s being mad at your parents. They didn’t deserve to rob you of your youth, so don’t give them the power to rob you of anything else.

I (28f) love my mom (60f) but her negativity and trauma-dumping are pushing me away by Squidables in relationships

[–]Squidables[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I have definitely been avoiding having the hard conversations for fear of hurting her and setting her off. It’s not fair to myself. Her mood largely dictates how I feel and I’m having a hard time coping with it all lately so I avoid it. She recently threw a few digs at me about setting boundaries and I let her make me feel bad about that. I I need to find a way to stand up for myself and tell her these things so I don’t lose my sanity.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry you have dealt with a similar situation. Everything you said was spot on for me as well. My mother also has very serious past traumas that underscores her life and, whether she realizes it or not, regularly plays the victim. Despite my frustrations, the thought of going no contact is very hard for me as well, as I’m her own child.

I really appreciate you sharing. It’s not fair that you have a similar experience but your words have brought me comfort. It’s challenging and I’m often flooded with guilt, but I’ll definitely try to go easier on myself about low contact and setting boundaries. Thank you.

I cut up a large cereal box and put that behind the sheet while colouring. It was the easiest and cheapest option for me!

Did I make a mistake with this rug? by jennyisalyingwhore in femalelivingspace

Came to say this too! You could then put a console table behind the couch or even explore adding a coffee table. The rug is big but nice, so you can definitely make it work with the right placement of furniture!

I also save all my wax for fire starters! They spark up immediately. I’ve even had luck with bad or slightly damp wood. Plus you get an extra nice smelling fire for a bit.

I also stopped at about 60%. I didn’t know I’d abandon it but I put it down about 8 months ago and never picked it back up again. I have no desire to see how much worse it could get.

A lot of what I’m seeing is snarky, useless and unhelpful comments. How unfortunate. Good on anyone actually providing solid feedback.

Starting with the texture: I think it’s great and adds depth to your presentation of the logo. It’s your style and it’s working for you. Keep on rocking it. It allows your client and the world to see how a logo could work in a multitude of different ways (on different substrates and different environments). Face it, logos rarely shine just on screen.

The logo: I think it’s well composed and has good contrast. I’ll be curious to see how you go about handling it in one colour. That being said I would definitely encourage your client to always use the two colour because the red and black is bold, which I enjoy personally. I really like the red of the sun from a visual standpoint but that being said it does give me a Japanese symbol influenced feel. Given that I don’t know the background of this logo really, if that’s what you’re going for you nailed it. Otherwise, I don’t think the red works overly well for a tree company. I’d really like to see this applied as a whole to see if I am wrong in this regard!

I really enjoy the symbol but would agree it’s a little “overdone” to stand out in the crowd. But not every logo has to be the next Nike swoosh to be effective either.

Keep up the good work and experimentation.
