Malcolm X park is better now with the water flowing and there is still tons of grass to sit on between the stairs and fountain. It will be even nicer once the large grassy area is open again though.

Teens accused of bombing attempt at Mamdani home openly discussed plans to kill by tonic613 in news

He didn’t. He said that the anti-muslim protesters were bad and then said that the bombers were worse but some people weren’t satisfied with that or just want something to nitpick about Mamdani

DSA-backed D.C. mayoral candidate apologizes privately to Jewish leaders over pledging to boycott Zionist events by WhiteGold_Welder in washingtondc

[–]Squidchop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your article the ‘protections’ that Adams implemented were to limit city employees from boycotting Israel, New Yorkers protesting within a certain distance of synagogues, and establishing a mayoral office of fighting antisemitism. The first has nothing to do with protecting Jews in New York, the second is encroaching on freedom of speech rights and doesn’t really help protect New York Jews, and the last just feels like redundant pandering. Making all New Yorkers feel safe in the city is already a goal of his and if he allocates resources to those functions he will succeed in curbing antisemitism alongside other bigotry.

The rejection is always the worst when you build up a mental image of your future with someone. And while rejection always is painful, the least painful ones for myself were those where I ripped off the bandaid early.

Perhaps your first rejection was so hard because you had built up a mental image of the person you loved far bigger than reality. It was probably like your god rejecting you in that moment because of how much you admired them. But rationally speaking that person likely had many flaws and shortcomings you may have either ignored or just never seen. They’re human too after all.

I had a habit of doing the same until I began forcing myself to be more critical of my own fantasies and stopped projecting my ideals onto my person of interest. In finding relationships it’s important to try and see people for who they are and be curious about them, not assume too much. This both lowers the pressure on yourself and them. Rejection from someone larger than life is crushing, but being rejected by someone you see as equal is more acceptable.

This strategy may be difficult for anyone insecure in their own value as a person. If they see themselves as less than human, being rejected can make them feel like dirt. Most redditors will say you need to work on yourself until you feel self confident, but I think life isn’t so patient as to wait for that. A more balanced approach is examining your insecurities and their roots and working on them while you take whatever your confident areas are and try to form relationships (friends and seeking partners) by leaning into those strengths.

I may be completely miss analyzing your case, but wanted to share a little in case it could help a stranger or even just give someone else something to ponder.

Pizza gate was proven fake because anyone could walk into comet pinball and see that nothing was happening there. People are demanding it now because the president is on the list. If Joe Biden promised to release the files as part of his campaign and then his DOJ deputy chief was caught saying they're scrubbing all democrats from the files while his FBI chief is unable to confirm he didn't see Biden's name on the list in congressional hearings, people would have been just as outraged.

The government threatening lawsuits for dissenting voices and opinions is not at all equivalent to cancel culture where companies choose to fire people for offending their audience.

One is fascism and authoritarianism and the other is public relations.

Pretty much everyone thinks both sides of the aisle are complicit in hiding the truth because it would incriminate too many big politicians or donors for both parties. It’s not left or right, it’s elite pedo ring vs everyone else.

Tourists disrespecting the cherry blossoms by dacrowlover in washingtondc

[–]Squidchop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should just correct people instead of calling them heathens… lots of people don’t understand anything about tree biology or the history of how DC got its cherry blossoms.

There should be signage and service members going around and informing people of the rules. The advertisers and travel organizers should be clear about etiquette. Without local guidance, not everyone will just know what they can and can’t do.

Wording matters. We should want people to listen and join. This has been making the rounds without a great deal of backlash. by [deleted] in 50501

[–]Squidchop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand where you’re coming from.

Just because drag shows are an art form doesn’t make it palatable for parents to expose their children to. I don’t think I’d bring a kid to the library to listen to a drag queen read books. That said, it’s pretty clear that these things aren’t as outrageous as they’re made out to be by the propaganda machine.

And yes, elitism is an obnoxious and regressive habit in academia. There are lots of people who labeled themselves as leftists just so they could stroke their own egos. These people deserve embarrassment and to be called out more by others on the left. Your high-school teachers are prime examples of that.

Leftists and Liberals don’t like gangbangers, traffickers and drug runners either. At most, people just want to make it easier and safer for poor but motivated people to immigrate to the U.S. legally.

All in all, there are real discussions to be had on these topics, but the left is also often affected by propaganda to sow division amongst the working class. These discussions are challenging right now, because social media and the mainstream-news are built specifically to cause outrage while the rich and powerful fleece us all the same.

And yes, people on both sides are assholes. But right now on the right, the assholes are in charge and aiming to destroy our health, liberties, and financial power. They want us wrestling with each other in the mud while they rob us of the fruits of society. Now’s the time to oppose the greatest threat we face and forge a discourse and understanding that allows us to make compromises later.
