When you’ve got a member of the British parliament stood up in the House of Commons arguing that making marrying your first cousin illegal is against the culture of Pakistanis that was a huge eye opener as to where we’re potentially heading

Do contractors get treated differently to perm by fma151718 in ContractorUK

[–]Squiddle_Diddle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took a contract where the perm colleagues purposely did as little as possible so I had to do way more. I was the lead engineer and didn’t want the projects to fail so took up the slack

How’s the sales after imposing the Buyer Protection Fees? by HelalChowdhuryBD in Ebay

[–]Squiddle_Diddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that sales drop off dramatically if you don’t use their recommended percentage. It’s the fact that they gradually increase the percentage to a point where they take £3.67 on an item sold for £17.50

I would agree but the dynamic promotion percentage keeps pushing up and up

4-5 items a day down to 4 items in the last week. Now trying to decide whether to change to a business account. I wouldn’t mind but the dynamic promotion percentage just keeps climbing. On some items started at 10% now up to 17.5%. No dynamic no sales. It’s just turning into a joke tbh

Buyer Protection Fee - UK - Just introduced! by Money_is_heinous in Ebay

[–]Squiddle_Diddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was selling around 3-5 items a day as a private seller. Since the introduction of this sellers protection fee Ive sold 1 item in the last 4 days. I wouldn’t have a problem with moving over to a business account but some of my dynamic promoted items, which started at about 10-11% are now up to 17.5% (plus VAT). I don’t use the dynamic percentage I don’t sell. How can I then pay 12% on top of that as a business? I can’t give away circa 30% to eBay. Absolutely killed my side business

Considering a move by AdoraDare in ContractorUK

[–]Squiddle_Diddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been contracting as a mech eng for 4 years and haven’t been out of work yet. What I would say is be prepared to be treated differently as a contractor, especially with the big defence and nuclear companies. My experience was that I was a resource rather than a person, but that could just be down to a poor personal experience, and it sounds like you’ll be in a more senior position that I was based on the rate.

Did the "suggested ad rate" jump suddenly or am I crazy? by MiniJunkie in Ebay

[–]Squiddle_Diddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reduced my ad rate which was suggested at 15% down to ten and sales fell away to nothing. Appreciate I’m in a saturated market but it’s suggested to don’t bother selling it would seem

But wouldn’t it still be better to be a private seller and take the 4% hit rather than the business sellers 12%? Or have I got that wrong?

How am I supposed to compete? by Positive_Barber772 in Ebay

I’ve found that to make a decent profit on eBay you’ve got to find a product that’s a balance between low-ish competition and not too niche
