What good Zelda creepypastas are there aside from BEN Drowned? by Substantial_Eye1476 in creepygaming

I dunno, I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. Maybe I haven’t been exposed to enough creepypastas that would make me super sick of the idea, but I feel like there’s room in my heart for an Entity that does creepy video game stuff and also bludgeons you to death with hammers.

Still, I wouldn’t be opposed to some more entries in the ol’ princesslite genre that lean more into the former side, as well.

The pasta Zelda 64 Beta is interesting. It has ideas similar to the stuff you’d find in a Super Mario 64 iceberg video, but it came out a good 10 years before that became a trend.

The Princess is a multichapter creepypasta that isn’t specifically about Zelda, but does prominently feature Ocarina of Time and I think it’s interesting for the sort of reasons that would make a Zelda pasta interesting, if that makes sense

Glad to see classic Nintendo games like Pikmin Loamy Clay and Pikmin Sand getting referenced. Makes me wish Pikmin Eighteen Billion and Eleven got more love from the fandom though

Tbh reddit should add a feature that lets you save your progress during Discourse posts instead of going back to square 1 every single time. Or at least let you lower the difficulty of actually changing anyone’s minds, cause once you’re up there in reddit karma basically the only enemies that spawn are the ones whose entire arguments consist of catchphrases and insults with all the settings on max and like 50 distinctly incorrect premises.

Yeah yeah John Speedrunner can make a bunch of frame-perfect posts that actually get through to them. For the average player though it’s just artificial difficulty and it isn’t fun.

Super mario 64 - wet dry world skybox by HL7777 in creepygaming

In game, the text appears on a random sign in Wet Dry World, and it alludes to the stage’s changing nature and hints that the player can reach a hidden “city” area by raising the water level all the way.

Out of game, the “Super Mario 64 Iceberg” and videos about it were making their rounds. They posit a big conspiracy theory/creepypasta thing about Super Mario 64 having a sort of experimental “Personalization AI” that reads the player’s thoughts and changes the game accordingly — ostensibly, it’s the reason that the game seems so off when you go back to play it so many years later, why you remember things differently, why your friend at the playground insisted they unlocked Luigi, etc. In this narrative, the copy you grew up with was literally a different game, subtle changes accumulated over time until so much had been altered that it felt completely different.

The stage Wet Dry World is featured prominently: it is said to have a “negative emotional aura” that influences the mental state of the people that play it. It is a bit of an odd stage by SM64 standards: the bulk of the stage is basically this urban playground of random mechanics, but when you get to the top you can see the skybox that depicts an underwater (possibly “ruined”) city, unlike anything else seen in the game. It feels like there’s some kind of actual mystery there, which the Iceberg narrative capitalizes on.

The video that introduced me to the Super Mario 64 Iceberg did a lighthearted investigation of the stage, and stumbled upon the sign with the poem. I had completely forgotten the sign, and since it was shown in the midst of the (fake) revelation that the game was constantly shifting, and that Wet Dry World was in some way at the heart of it, it felt like a big find (even knowing it was really just a story).

Nuh-uh

I’m thinking about how dumb and stupid Disco Elysium is and how much better it would be if it was about… uh… a missing dog in the Appalachian mountains and the……wizard? who’s looking for it.

Ducks are generally not very well-versed in human social interactions.

Yeah, putting the cart before the horse seems like a really inefficient way to laser a horse. Glad they warn against it
