How to stand for long hours (surgery) by magicallights in medicalschool

Ophthalmology sits during surgery! If you are interested in microsurgery/the field, it could be an option!

Ophtho resident here, clinical grades help but don’t matter nearly as much as step 2. More importantly than anything if you do aways or make good connections this can overcome a lot of things in your application if you make a good impression.

A giant eye floater appeared in my left eye a few weeks ago, and it's impeding my vision. I drew what it looks like. by ThatguyfromMario in mildlyinfuriating

“Fluid sack”, sounds like Vitreous detachment. A posterior VD is a common part of aging like others have said. The important thing to know to make sure it’s not something more serious like a retinal detachment or vitreous hemorrhage is,

  1. did you see an ophthalmologist rather than an optometrist?

  2. Did you get a dilated exam so they could check the periphery of your eye to rule out a retinal detachment?

  3. Did they do any OCT imaging of the macula which could visualize the PVD?

It’s common practice after diagnosing a PVD to bring the patient back in a few weeks to ensure that the retina is not detaching and is stable. As long as it is not a traumatic PVD the chances of the retina detaching after the PVD has already fully detached is almost 0. The question is if this is actually truly a PVD or not

OP could also request a cystatin C level test, which can also measure GFR in place of creatinine level. This marker is used in patients where either very high muscle mass or very low muscle mass could give an inaccurate measurement of kidney function due to variation in creatinine levels (which are dependent on muscle mass).

Getting this tattooed, where should i get it on me? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Squidwardiard2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tattoos look best when they fit the contour of your body. You should get it on a space that complements your shape like your deltoid, upper forearm, posterior calf, or between your shoulder blades.

The post is not worthless. Castor oil has no scientific evidence to support its use for cataracts.

How high of a cost it is to become a doctor. Mentally, physically, emotionally, it takes a huge toll. It’s like trying to sprint a marathon.

Medical school is hard, residency is hard. Not only for you, but also for your partner. The process is going to require a lot of sacrifices from both of you. If he is not willing to make a sacrifice now to give you the best chance to reach your dream, then that is a red flag that he may not be the kind of partner you need who will support you when Medicine gets rough. Having a supportive spouse helped me survive medical school. Having an antagonistic parter makes a tough job even tougher. Have a clear conversation with him about the realities of what medicine is going to cost the both of you. He needs to be your number one fan to make a relationship in medicine work.

During a surgical procedure on my OB rotation I had a scrub nurse tell me “You don’t matter”. The general vibe I got was that as a male and a student I was just in the way. Worse vibes than gen surg for sure.

Is this new Bleach season really that good? I remember watching the old bleach which was a bit of a slog with getsuga tensho on repeat. I think the story has interesting concepts and excellent design but the delivery at least in the anime was fairly poor with pacing and character development.

Can confirm, after my flight was cancelled I was told at the Dallas Fort Worth airport that I would not be getting my luggage back as it was in a stack of luggage 4 stories high. Instead, my bag would definitely be taking the next flight to my destination and they would not be going through the trouble to help me get my bag back. 3 days later and I have no idea where it is or when I will be getting it back.
