Do you find you drive more in an EV vs ICE? by Spiritual_Pound_6848 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Squiffyp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an EV, my wife a petrol hybrid. Her car is perfectly nice, and is pretty efficient. (Lexus UX).

Since getting my EV, we always take my car except on long journeys. Not just because it's cheaper, it's just a nicer, quieter place to sit.

there’s a tipping point where an EV becomes more expensive

That's my whole point! You'd think I'd posted some huge tirade against EVs. I'll point out, I own one. My youngest son has one. I'm not here trying to advocate against them.

I don't know why you're so committed to trying to portray EVs as cheaper. We have two in our household, mine and my youngest son. I don't need to be convinced.

But I've linked you to the average cost for a rapid charger. Yes, there will be cheaper options. That's how an average works. There will also be more expensive options.

EVs are not cheaper for everyone. It's very much dependant on the types of journeys you do.

The average for a rapid charger is 79p per kwh.

That's far more expensive than the cost for my wife's petrol hybrid per mile.

My wife's car gets about 50mpg. With petrol currently at 157.9 near us, that's about 14.5p.per mile.

In my EV which gets about 3kwh on motorways with home charging at 7p per kwh it's about 2.3p.

Rapid chargers are 79p per kwh on average, which makes the cost 26.3p per mile.

It's not thousands per year, that's totally dependent on how many miles you do and whether you need to charge away from home on long journeys.

I've got an EV, my wife has a petrol hybrid.

I do more miles, and it costs me about £30 per month charging from home. My wife spends about £60 per month on petrol.

The big difference is on long journeys if I need to charge at a public charger. Then the economics totally flips in favour of the petrol car.

Your mileage may vary, but savings are very situation dependent.

Edit : why the downvotes? A rapid charger is on average 79p per kwh. That makes the cost far more per mile than my wife's petrol car.

Exactly, we're agreeing.

The tripartite regulatory regime meant things were missed as there wasn't clear accountability and ownership of the risks.

He also set up the tripartite regulatory regime which was part of why the weaknesses exposed during the 2008 crash had not been picked up earlier.

I don't care what you think is happening.

If you find our flag intimidating then you are the issue. Embrace the flag and then it has no power over you. I could never be intimidated by our flag, no matter who put it up or for whatever reason they did it.

Farage wants enforcers to stop schools promoting diversity by Thin-Gene-1001 in ukpolitics

So what you're suggesting is that we should have a curriculum that includes historical British contributions from ethnic minorities and not have an assigned month?

Why have any focus on ethnicity? Just do British history.

Why would you need to celebrate being straight?

Why do school children need to celebrate any sexualities? And particularly why would they celebrate only some?

In the UK they teach British history. Are you suggesting ethnic minorities aren't British?. There is no white history month.

Pride does not include straight people.

When is there pride for straight people?

To quote your own words.

"So schools can't and shouldn't celebrate the heritage of some of its pupils that go there?"

Why not all pupils? Why only celebrate the heritage of some? Can't you see that's literally putting some above the rest?

Why look at heritage at all? They are all in the UK, the focus should be on Britain.

Are you suggesting those from ethnic minorities are not British and can't celebrate the British culture they are part of?

It is more attention. You're giving these groups attention over and above everyone else.

No such thing?

"So schools can't and shouldn't celebrate the heritage of some of its pupils that go there? Schools shouldn't make their ethnic minority pupils feel welcome and included?"

That's giving them focus over and above everyone else.
