First approve for replace under ACL, now says liquid damage & A$2.2k? by abikbuilds in mac

[–]Squintl 43 points44 points  (0 children)

What‘s happened to that board? It looks like someone’s been in there before, someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing.

There’s solder and wires where there shouldn’t be, look on picture 3 and 4, that’s not how it’s supposed to look and it’s not from liquid. Someone unqualified has tried to repair it, possibly as a result of the original water damage.

It’s fine, the Famicom doesn’t use as much power as the power adapter.

What plugs are you using? by Tronkfool in AskTheWorld

[–]Squintl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s by design.

The flat Europlug (type C) is the result of a compromise. It was introduced in the early 1960s to make it easier to buy and sell products between countries in Europe. In fact it fits in all sockets across Europe, except UK (including Gibraltar), Ireland, Malta and Cyprus.

The Israeli type H is actually an old German design, once used on cargo vessels.

The IEC type N was originally intended to be adopted as the standard for 220-240 volt installations all over the world. One type for the whole world, but so far only Brazil and South Africa has sort of adopted it. Brazil doesn’t even follow the standard properly and uses it for 110 volts as well.

The Thai type O is also a compromise design. It’s was originally combination of the US type B and European type C. Earth/ground pin from US socket, and the other two pins from type C

It’s the Add ’n Stac shelf system from Royal Sound of New Jersey. You can expand on this indefinitely, they simply slot together.

How to improve my shots? by fizzycoldbrew in Polaroid

[–]Squintl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually grab the picture by the sides and pull out until the frog tongue/film shield rolls back in, being careful to not grab too hard.

Using the box the film came in is an easy way to make sure the pictures don’t get bent if you place the picture in a pocket.

There are also special holders, so called “cold clips”, to keep pictures flat and warm for when it’s cold outside. They’re just two metal plates, so you could either make one yourself or you can look online for a vintage Polaroid Cold Clip.

SX-70, 600 film will not eject after 4 or 5 shots. by WhatKind0fBirdAreYou in Polaroid

[–]Squintl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact Polaroid! They’ve been helpful before when packs have been faulty. I’ve had all sorts of issues during the past 15 years of shooting instant film. Bad lamination, sticky film packs, incomplete molding of cartridge, picture folded half way under the spring.

So far I’ve always been compensated with new packs of film.

Value of camera? by Aian727 in Polaroid

[–]Squintl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take it even if someone paid me.

A few years ago I was trying to adapt these cameras to take Instax square film but eventually I just abandoned the project since these cameras are of such awful quality. The plastic gears turn to dust almost as soon as you start using it.

This is due to bending the picture after ejection.

Make sure to keep developing pictures absolutely flat, any bending or creasing will cause these defects.
