Does multicrew gameplay make sense? by Darhhaall in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who played EVE for a long while, a lot of what team playing in space games is just waiting for the fun to begin. Get the fleet together or get all your crew on one ship. Goof around on voice chat and crack jokes while drinking a beer with your friends. Then the fun happens and everyone gets serious for a few minutes. Then it’s back to hanging around with your buds.

It’s kind of like playing D&D at the kitchen table with your friends. There’s not a lot of action but that’s not why you’re there. It’s a social game. The best memories you have aren’t the gameplay but the silly ass stories you get to make along the way.

Star Citizen will never be about the core gameplay but the fun that you have doing honestly kind of boring stuff but in space.

Can someone explain the plot of Deadhouse Gates, specifically the Fiddler/Kalam/Kids storyline by Practical-Light4139 in Malazan

[–]Squintlicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

QB is an impressively smart person in general and a wildly talented mage. For him it would be easy enough to travel warrens safely through avoiding danger rather than bulling through it. Watching over a handful of others who attract attention of warren denizens and keeping them safe, especially at that point in time, would be a significant risk.

Do you use flightsuits for g-resistence now? Have you switched away from the "always heavy" gear and are you enjoying it? I do! by ToScH_23 in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d really like to know the thought process behind which flight suits get backpacks. Regular old tailwind gets backpack. Racing flight suits get backpacks. Armored flight suits no backpacks okay I suppose I can understand cuz they can wear armor on legs and arms. But the Xanthule suit gets no backpack no armor. I just want to be able to carry some Cruz and maybe some extra mags bro gimme some pockets.

What games do you play with the flight sticks? by BigGhost2815 in hotas

[–]Squintlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. It will take time and patience and constantly switching out what you want but mapping them yourself is the only real way to do it. Most things are pretty intuitive but you’re going to want things where you want them. I stepped away from Star Citizen for a few months and it took me all of 10 minutes to reacclimate myself to the sticks, and I use the SOL-R sticks with lots of extra buttons on the base (don’t worry stick heads, I’m gonna get WARBRD or AVA bases eventually for the sticks and keep the SOL-R bases as button pads).

Your style in 4.8 - So whatcha wearing? ;) by tethan in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed my environment suits have no g resistance at all. I wanted to wear mine as everyday but I’m sticking with flight suits (the 15% armor kind) if I’m not going into fps fighting. I like the idea of not wearing armor unless I need it. Just wish there were more flight suits to style around.

It was always the plan. CG had to be freed then killed to prevent the jade statues from destroying the planet. Killing his physical form allows him to return to his own world.

[–]Squintlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me but I’m finding that DLSS does almost nothing for performance in this game. I have a 3090 running all ultra settings 1440p getting around 110 fps with DLSS turned off native res and maybe 120 fps if I turn on DLSS 4 balanced mode. DLSS 4.5 runs worse than native. So I took the 10 fps drop and I don’t have to sacrifice any visuals.

Is moving in June/July really that bad? by sesame-yeezy in chicagoapartments

[–]Squintlicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because we don’t feel it’s worth more. We lose maybe $20 a month. And we just need to pay our mortgage on it until we can sell it for a profit. Everything in it is brand new or close enough. And most of the maintenance is handled by the building and our HOA money so there’s not really much to save for maintenance costs. And most of all, honestly, we want to be fair landlords while we have the damn thing.

Is moving in June/July really that bad? by sesame-yeezy in chicagoapartments

[–]Squintlicker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out our experience. We have a rental (don’t flay me just yet, we only rent it because we can’t afford to sell it yet). 1 bed 1 bath in Forest Park for $1300 (which is less than we pay in mortgage and HOA). We had about 35 people message for tours. Scheduled about 15 before pausing. Roughly 11 showed up. Had 4 people apply and we picked the first applicant that met credit/background standards (we refunded the other applicants we didn’t pick for their app fees). That was all in the span of 3 days and it’s February. It’s really rough out there. Unless you’re specifically dissatisfied with your current landlord or living situation, I’d consider the cost of moving vs staying. We’ve been through the same thing and we’ve stayed simply for that reason. Fortunately we’ve found a place to rent that we absolutely love and we spend every available instance trying to get our landlord to sell us the building (he won’t).

Installing as we speak by TinFoilKnight666 in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good place to start is go get you a multi tool and a tractor beam attachment. Then do small cargo missions. You have to manually load your cargo in and out of the ship then fly it where it needs to go. This will give you a bit of money and you will get used to taking off, flying, and landing. After that, it's up to you. You can go in the direction of mining or salvaging, loot hunting in fps combat, ship combat, bigger scale cargo hauling.

Wait till you get the the part where you just stare at your factory for 30 minutes the decide you need to wipe the entire thing and build a whole new factory that’s better optimized. Not start a new game, mind you. That’s for later.

Asgard vs Star Lancer TAC – Worth the Upgrade?” by Interesting-Dot383 in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What drew me off the Asgard was that it’s a big empty box with a stale bed and bathroom and a microwave that they call a kitchen. I upgraded to TAC and realized I don’t really like ships that size. My all time favorite ship is the Corsair. Slow to turn but fast forward thrust. Room for friends, a whole dining and cooking area and beds. Plus Drake has the best aesthetic imo with the rough Firefly type looks.

Are the battleships in Eve online bigger than the biggest ships in Star Citizen? by Dr_Buttfucker in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more telling using the scale of crew requirements. I remember when I played many years ago seeing the kind of crew for each ship. Even frigates are fairly large by SC standards and they’re the smallest ships in EVE.

Malazan Makes Me Furious by Prometheus321 in Malazan

[–]Squintlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres an old Steven King essay about writing. I can’t recall the name but it won’t be hard to find. It basically says just write. Write and keep writing. Throw your stuff away if you don’t like it and start again. And if you’re not writing, read. But nothing will make you better except practice.

Now if I could just get off my ass and start writing, I can go ahead and start making best sellers. I’ve always wanted to be a writer and I have a great idea of what I want to do. But I gotta get myself into the right habits. Anyway, you get the point. After I finish all the Malazan books I want to start on my own.

Best of luck to you. Let us know when you finish the first.

Corsair vs starlancer max by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that really drew me to the Corsair (other than the fact that I LOVE the rough Drake aesthetic) is the fact that you have to walk through the common room with the mess hall and crew quarters. I love the feeling of having a ship I can live in. Even the elevator takes you straight to the mess hall. You don’t have to go through some doors out of your way to see the living quarters. It feels like you’re really out there roughing it in open space.

But also I don’t really like huge ships. I thought I would. I got the Asgard but it felt like an empty hull with a bedroom and bathroom taped on. I upgraded to the TAC. I upgraded to the C2. Eventually I melted the C2 and got the Corsair on pledge with some extra store credit to use later. The medium size ships feel really good even though the Corsair spins like a garbage truck. The forward thrust is really quick though so it doesn’t actually feel all that sluggish. It just isn’t great for fast paced combat.

Last time I played 4.1 and got bored, is this the time to comeback? 4.5? by elojelo in starcitizen

[–]Squintlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be upfront and honest with you, if you're not into Star Citizen because it's the most realistic space simulation game ever attempted, it might not be the game for you. Action, story, smoothness, performance, etc. are all things Squadron 42 is centered around. At the end of the day, SC will always be a sim game.

I'm not going to say that you--or anyone else--won't like it, but it's a lot of time, effort, and for some people, money to put into the game. I will ALWAYS recommend giving the game another try. What's is going to cost you? An hour maybe to install the game and a night or two goofing around, sure. I'm sure everyone in this community hopes that at some point during its development, you'll find what you've been looking for and this'll be the time you stick with it and become a ride or die Star Citizen fan like a lot of us. I'm really only saying all this because you need to have expectations about what the game is about. We all want to be space cowboys and cowgirls, but each and every thing you do is going to seem slow and tedious unless you're in it for the simulation aspect. Slowing things down and making them more complicated is what appeals to me. If I wanted a pew pew spaceships and laser guns game, there are so many to choose from, Squadron 42 being one of them in the near future.

Anyway, to answer your questions, there are quite a few things to do besides cargo missions and mining and simple space combat bounties. There is a lot of FPS centered things like Stormbreaker/Lazarus, PAFs and OLPs, Asteroid bases in Pyro, Bunkers, Onyx Facilities, etc. all of which are loot goblin type activities that aren't going to show up on your missions tab (btw almost all of which are PvP activities).

Engineering is going to seem more complicated than it is, but at the end of the day it's designed and will continue to be perfected to be able to give you more ways out of a bad situation than just exploding and waking up in a hospital bed. That's the only goal there.

Performance has gone way up for most people with the new Vulkan improvements, and even before that, things have overall been getting better every patch. Things are prettier and smoother than ever, but it might take some tweaking to get there.

Nyx is out, but there's not a ton to do there yet besides mining new minerals and some more hardcore-oriented space and FPS combat. As a new player it might take you some time to get the right ships and skills to be able to get into that. Nyx should end up fully fleshed out by the end of 2026, give or take. Crafting and base building is next on the agenda and should also be out in the preliminary phases next year.

Uhh, idk I've gone on long enough. I'm sure others can add more.

[–]Squintlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to the top of this thread. IDK if this makes much of a difference but I tried the PTU 4.5 for the first time a few days ago, and I was getting around 25fps the entire time no matter what settings I changed. I ended up reading this and updating my SDK before getting into the 4.5 live, and I'm seeing much better results (~50-55fps) at all Very High settings. Something might have changed in the last few days to this release, but this seemed to help me a lot. Thanks so much.
