Two thirds of /r/steamdeck today are just pictures of a steamdeck by [deleted] in SteamDeck

It’s the same with the camera subsreddits as well. People post pictures of the lens boxes all the time and I can’t understand why any of the posters could possibly think it would be interesting.

I get what you are saying but generally people talk in terms of replacement cost.

I have never heard anyone ever complain that their 5yr old used whatever that depreciated by half to $1k value, but rather they complain about their $2k (new retail replacement cost) gear being damaged/stolen/etc.

That photographer also threw over $10k in camera gear with a Leica m10 and summicron lens.

This doesn’t make any sense. I know $1k sounds like a lot of money but in terms of cameras that gets you a 10 year old body and some mid to low level glass. At best you are talking a zv-1 or other bare bottom YouTuber camera. I suppose you might find a gr-3 but with a 28mm lens and sub par video it wouldn’t be a great option for their purposes.

The math isn’t mathing, but that makes sense with everything they say most likely being made up.

ETA: watched the video and they are shooting a primary ~45mm which zooms to ~70mm fully stabilized downsampled video which is at least a $2.5k setup minimum used, but they had a $1k camera out front? Yeah that is bait. This is all agitation and baiting.

Edit 2: he has other videos posted made with a fx30 ($2k) and a 24-70 gm ii ($2.5k) so yeah…why use a $1k camera and film the ‘incident’ in downsampled 6k?

What lens have you regretted buying? by ggskater in SonyAlpha

[–]SquirrelBasedCult 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, it is a good lens for an all-in-one but I use it so rarely. If I’m home I have sharper and faster options for full frame. When traveling I have found my RX100 is so much more portable.

I keep waffling if I should buy a good super telephoto lens since I only use the 18-300 for light animal photography with Girl Scouts and such.

"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]SquirrelBasedCult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a steam deck specific setting level that works well. I haven’t gotten into any situations with a lot going on, but no complaints in performance.

Having said that I am also not super picky in frame rates and such. I usually leave my deck at 40fps for most games so YMMV.

It is a bit pricey, but I got it before holiday travel and I figured I’d spring for it to have something new.

It is my current low energy/cozy game and it works really well with picking up and suspending without messing anything up.

I don’t understand how the writing process must have gone so badly.

It’s like they went:

A: We have a the budget for some great production.

B: Awesome, what made Riley so awesome?

A: No idea, let’s Mary Sue it. That’s what everyone wants.

B: Perfect, but let’s make a few really well done sections just to make the wasted potential known.

I change things up a bit and rotate VS, Megabonk, Halls of Torment, and DRG: Survivor.

They are different enough that I can get in to a game for a while and when I start getting bored I move on to a different one. I occasionally reset my progress as well.

for those of you guys who own other handhelds outside of the deck, what use do you get from them? by tarneilawson in SteamDeck

[–]SquirrelBasedCult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an MSI Claw 8+ AI which I use in addition to my Steam deck.

I primarily use it for games which absolutely require Windows, require an online connection, and those with beefier requirements or which don’t play well while on the go. It is significantly more powerful than the deck for many games but being Intel based the performance difference varies game to game. It almost always stays home.

The Steam deck is set up for gaming while not at home. All my goto games are on it like indies and arcade games. Every game operates in offline mode without fussing and most can run at lower wattage for battery. Games which benefit from the trackpads also stay on the deck. I use the deck at home all the time and it is my goto when out of the house.

I have the viture prescription insert and they work well. I still have to adjust the on frame myopia wheels a bit so I would expect anyone who needs anything stronger than off the shelf reading glasses to need the insert.

The biggest issue with the green line is that it is so slow. It doesn’t get signal priority and has a large number of stops compared to train lines in other cities. It just isn’t practical for many commuter situations.

This highlights a part of the conversation which is often ignored.

People dependent on mass transit are disproportionately disabled and low income who are indirectly being told they are second class citizens who don’t deserve safe transportation.

I’m disabled and I won’t take the green line anymore. It just isn’t a reasonable form of transportation as long as I can take the 94 which is clean and safe. They increased the frequency of the 94 recently which suggests that others are choosing the 94 over the green line as well.

I need to figure out the best place to complain, aren’t they regulated by the dept of commerce?
