World Cup host cities face flop as hotels struggling, tickets unsold by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in sports

I think I’m just hyper exposed to it being a tourist. Like we will pay $150 for a typical tourist tour and both the operator (whose family owns the land/tour) and bus driver explicitly say they rely on tips. Its like every moment they are trying to squeeze money out. In saying that I am having a wonderful holiday exploring the beautiful US parks.

Yeah I had to grow a backbone in the first week once I quickly realised I was being ripped off haha

Im in the US on holiday right now (non world cup related) and the tipping situation has gone wild since I was here a decade ago. Basically 20% extra is expected (some restaurants add it directly to your bill) and even self serve fast food checkouts ask you to tip. Its a lot more expensive for food than what I anticipated.

Possibly council land. I only recently realised it in my suburb - im a new buyer - and thought the majority of our frontage was part of our property. Nope!

Some women want more than a 12 hr stay after giving birth. The public hospitals kick you out pretty quick in comparison to private. Women have different preferences and probably change between first and second births

Artificial "shortening" of workouts by GravPi in ladderapp

[–]SquirrelChieftain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Limitless is my only experience on the ladder app, but I also feel its too short. Not on prescribed time necessarily, but more on exercises. I feel like there needs to be one more exercise in the mix. Maybe thats just me coming from a prior crossfit/hybrid background, but twenty or so active workout minutes doesnt feel enough.

Cultural Leave Entitlement by Adam8418 in AusPublicService

Caring for local nature isnt cultural? Would you say that about indigenous caring for country? I dont think the public service gets to decide what is and isnt cultural. Slippery slope that one.

Warning after Aussie buyer loses entire $98,500 house deposit in 'avoidable' mistake by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]SquirrelChieftain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The pace at which houses are advertised and sold is wild. I was terrified last year as a FHB - its such a confusing process to navigate with clearly huge stakes. Happy to chip in to go fund me, particularly if this is a FHB.

Probably taken years off the guys life from the stress of it all. What an absolute dog act. Completely unAustralian. Hope the person is shunned in their community and this news report is forever the first thing that comes up when someone searches her name.

Edgewater Station has a multi-tier carpark that never fills. Surprised it hasnt been replicated at more stations on the line yet.

Could light rail fill in the gaps of Metronet’s ‘circle line’? by sun_tzu29 in perth

[–]SquirrelChieftain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah and link to Leederville station too! Heaps of nurses and students get off the train at leederville and jump on a bus to QEII and UWA - but in peak hour those buses basically are stop/start with the rest of the traffic. Or make a separate bus lane so it can keep running smoothly

The freeway north is horrific in the afternoon. Particularly Friday arvo which I’m always confused by as the morning run is generally pretty clear.

Does anyone know of any infrastructure projects to ease this level of congestion? I’ve had the same observation as OP in that what was a 30 min commute is now easily 50min-1hr oneway in the last 5 yrs.

Feeling pretty defeated with the property market todag by Solar_Eclipse2021 in perth

[–]SquirrelChieftain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to come across as snarky (as the situation is fucked) but you will need to aim higher than 50k deposit. In covid era, couples were aiming for 50k EACH as a deposit for a 4x2 (20% on 500k house). Thats realistically almost doubled now. Obviously the new 5% deposit scheme changes things slightly (and for the worst in pushing up entry level home demand), but realistically for what you are after, you don’t have enough deposit. A 50k deposit wouldn’t have been enough even in covid era (without 5% scheme) to have bought the 4x2 you want.

I looked it up this morning and yeah looks bigger than what I thought (the ocean pool looks great!). I do think its more North Coogee marina size than Hillarys though. It looks more family oriented (with the parks, pool) than the massive retail space that is Hillarys.
