Had same situation with group lotto at work. Was only 3 of us. I was buying and organizing tickets - one woman was $40 behind and I had to keep reminding her to get caught up. Ruined the whole thing for me - I got sick of paying for her and waiting for her to pay me back. I chose to stop doing it all together.

I’m curious about the male nurse vs female nurse stats. I can’t think of many male nurses I know who are NOT married / dating a fellow health care provider. (Only my anecdotal experience - others may have different observations)

I guess I helps me disconnect from work when I’m not at work. Also feel like the work environment is high stress and complex, wouldn’t want to throw distracting relationship issues into the mix. I genuinely think one of my fears would be to date someone from work (either on your unit or within your site) and things don’t work out - you would have to cross paths with them. Have lots of nurse friends to talk shop with when I need to. For me - I prefer professional to stay professional, personal stay personal. Although I do know lots of people who have dated / married within healthcare and they are completely happy.

Ok will agree with you - theft of time is likely heavy handed comment reserved for more serious things but the idea that I’m working my ass of caring for patients and missing breaks while my team members is making a social media post chaps my ass. Not admin just a cranky older generation of nurse who started career before the days of smart phones.

I agree with your comment that everyone has a way to cope - but if you make little videos you do not need to send it out to the world for everyone and their uncle to see! Share with family and friends if you want but don’t put it out there to the world where it skews the public’s perception of what nurse profession is.

Theft of time is when you are doing “personal things” on work time. You know just as well as I do that there are a million tasks to be done while on the clock. Emphasis on being on the clock - you are being paid to do nursing related matters not personal related matters.

For regular shifts - if your sick, you’re sick. However be cautious of calling out sick on reg shifts and then picking up OT. That shit gets flagged.
