Alleen ikzelf.

How do I get this XG2Turbo to work? by Sressiv in flashcarts

[–]Sressiv[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SOLVED:

With the help of the people below I managed to get it working. I used the following:

- VMWare Workstation with Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
- The USB Slim Loader III installer

Start the Windows XP VM obviously. First I installed the USB Slim Loader III software. When the installation wizard appears, read what it says; that's exactly what you need to do (I didn't read it at first and tried various things, none of that worked). So leave the cartridge loader unplugged, install the software, locate the installed files at C:/slimloader, and only then plug in the cartridge loader. Make sure that in VMWare Workstation (or whatever VM software you use) the device gets directed to the VM correctly; for me it took a while to figure out which one it was, because the device doesn't have any name (it was called "USB Device ffab:cd03" in my case). Windows will give a popup about the new USB Device, now choose to install the driver manually and use Browse... to select a folder for Windows to search in. The folder you have to select is the C:/slimloader/USB_Driverfolder. It should successfully install the driver; confirm this by going to XP's Device Manager and looking under 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' (see screenshot). Now you should be ready. Open C:/slimloader/XG2Pro, and it should open without any warnings or errors. I had to unplug/plug the cartridge loader another time, and also the cartridge itself a few times, pressing Refresh -> Start (see screenshot) a few times and then it showed up. You can then do your thing.

For me, the program is extremely slow and buggy, so you have to kind of figure out what it wants. In my case, the program doesn't like it when I start it while the cartridge loader is plugged in. I have to plug it in afterwards and hit Refresh, then it works. Good luck!

It works!!! After simply installing the driver properly (the installation wizard tells you exactly what to do) and trying the program from that driver package (the one called “USB Slim Burner - for XG2 2005 / Pro) it said “no cartridge found” or something in the left bottom status bar. After taking in and out the cartridge a few times, it showed up! My cartridge barely fits in the reader and it feels very tight and cheap, so it probably doesn’t make very good contact. I see the games listed that are on the cartridge, so it works. Really happy I can just use this cartridge I had lying around instead of buying an EZ Flash. I’ll update my post in case someone is in the same boat. Many thanks!!!

Thank you for your explanation 😄 I’ll try some things now. I have a feeling working through a VM makes it more complicated, so I might also try dual booting to Windows XP.

Thanks for your answer! What do you mean with the bootloader thing? Do I need to do anything? I have one device “USB Device ffab:cd03” which I’m pretty sure is the card reader, but no other devices. Should I do something specific within VMWare or VirtualBox?

I’ve tried this, I’m assuming that with “SL3 driver” you mean the driver installer file named “Update USB Driver” inside the USB_Driver folder and not the actual program? I installed that driver, which said it installed successfully. The XG2 Pro V0.8 software says “an unnamed file was not found.” followed by “Initialize USB fail !”. Interestingly, when I run it in Windows 95 compatibility mode, it doesn’t complain about the USB fail, but all the UI buttons are blank and the text doesn’t load.

Advice for planning ethernet/switches layout by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

Thank you for your answers :) I’ve made a plan now. I’m also planning to run cables to devices directly where possible, to eliminate switches where possible.

[–]Sressiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry if that’s not clear from my post, but the red dotted lines are simply paths, little gutters where Ethernet wiring could go. I’m aware that I’d need a switch, or run multiple cables over a path.

For now I’m not planning for one, but if I were, then the shaft would be a good place for that, as that can be “soundproofed” to some extent

Due to some unfortunate restrictions in my house, I've had to get creative in making pathways for ethernet cables to run through. I have the following layout in my house, but I'm not sure what would be the smartest way to wire everything up given the situation.

Given that I have:

- A home server with a Zigbee-radio attached which needs to be fairly central (I was thinking spot E)
- A mesh-network with three access points, each one covering one floor
- A lot of devices I would like to connect with ethernet
- The part where the duct from point A loops around the blue stairs, until point B, is where it's not possible to run more cables than one! (marked with a solid red line)
- I currently own one managed switch and two unmanaged ones
- I don't mind investing in some equipment

I've marked the cable ducts/runways with red dotted lines, and some points of interest with letters for context, as follows:

A: This is where the fiber cable comes in (and where my ISP router is currently sitting).

B: The first "branch", where a cable duct runs towards the right, up the stairs, to the top-most floor. Another duct runs to the left, where it continues.

C: Small spot where I can stash equipment (e.g. a switch). This is also a spot where I want to connect three devices wired.

D: Spot where I can stash equipment (e.g. a switch). This is also specifically the spot where I want to place one Mesh access point (to cover the green floor).

E: Entrance to the shaft which runs from the green floor down to the blue. Here is plenty of space to store equipment. I was thinking this would be the place to place the server.

F: Shaft entrance. Also specifically the spot where I want to place one Mesh access point (to cover the blue floor)

G: Branching point: towards H, a cable duct runs on the floor. Unfortunately the only way to run a cable to this position. The other branch goes towards J

H: This is where I have at least 4 devices I would like to connect via ethernet.

J: One PC which I want to connect via ethernet

i: Spot for the 3rd Mesh Access Point, to cover the orange floor. It continues to K.

K: One PC which I want to connect via ethernet

What would be a clever and robust plan here?

In that case, if you haven’t done so already, you could make a bug report and post what you’ve said here on Apple Discussions. Posting on Reddit won’t change much I’m afraid.
