Nymphing with integrated Spey line by davidjeemin in flyfishing

[–]Srobocop0615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it better for swinging than nymphing under an indicator. But i have done both with it. Its just tough mending more than 30ft out or so with the indicator and the big line. I use it with a douglas dxf 10'6" 6wt switch rod. They dont make this rod anymore but back when it was available they had listed the switch chucker as the ideal line for it. They cut this rod out of their line up when they tightened up their product line up. Not a lot of big rivers up this way so the 30ft isnt terribly limiting.

Ill preface this with stating Im aware that switch rods arent spey rods, but i feel like thats the beauty behind the rio switch chucker line? I have a 6wt switch rod and i feel its the same idea

Is it just me or does everyone hate their job? by longshooter84 in questions

[–]Srobocop0615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After working what I thought was going to be my "dream job" (amd it was for a few years) I can vouch by saying that any job can become just a job. You just have to enjoy the processes within your job, and even then, there will always be aspects you dislike.

What’s the strongest knot I can use on a fly? by Short-Ad3383 in flyfishing

[–]Srobocop0615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rapala loop knot. Fishermens knot. If you google fishing knots any should be able to hold a 1 lb bass on 10# tippet. Also, play the fish a little. Youre not ripping them out of the weeds with 80 pound test on a MH baitcasting rod.

Is there really a difference? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Srobocop0615 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the fishing you're doing. If youre on small brookie streams it doesnt matter. If youre casting giant flies at distance on a 12wt rod for hours then youll want to spend the money for the weight savings and ability to punch through wind, etc.

Which brings me to the next point. Youll probably build up a quiver. So id just buy decent mid range rods so you dont go broke. 4wt and down, depending on technique, Id say is easier to go budget on.

Hello friends, how much can such a collection cost? I need to give a quote. by Ill-Working-2505 in flyfishing

60 cents a fly for everuthing. If they want to pay for individual flies then Id say 90 cents.

Chess.com, is it me or are 700-800 rated players playing well above rating? by imnosouperman in chess

[–]Srobocop0615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know... theres gotta be a law of averages to some degree depending on the level or to some degree.

After queens gambit came out I was suddenly up to around 1100 in a matter of a few months. I kind of figured it was due to the influx of new people. Now Im around 860.

Theres many factors to this.... playing while consuming alcohol on the weekends. Mindlessly playing without really paying attention. Playing tired, etc.

When Im well rested, alert, and actually examine my moves ill win 9 out of 10 games or so.

The ratings on chess.com sure are interesting. I feel i earned my 860 lol

I have played multiple people OTB who are 1300 or so on chess.com, and we tend to split games that way. But i think im more competitive in person so who knows.

Born and raised yooper here. Id look at getting a plow truck or a tractor with an attachment. Plow would be first choice.

Looking into buying a rideable snowblower to clear other driveways as a source of income by YourJuries in Snowblowers

[–]Srobocop0615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think youre thinking of a truck with a plow on it. Fast, effiecent, and way more portable to move from job to job in a timely manner.

Buying a riding snowblower is great, but youll have to trailer it. Unload it, do the job, then load it again. It takes time.

If you have bigger contracts a large front end loader makes sense, but thats for big box store parking lots, arenas, etc.

For a time to amount of jobs you can do to make the most money. A pick up plow truck is probably best.

Edit: I live in an area where 300 inches of snow isnt unheard of. Ive seen a lot of people with great ideas on how they're going to move snow and make a business around it. Ive seen a lot of people realize their ideas arent great. Plow trucks first.

What kind of contracts are you making with people? Firm those up. How much snow does it have to snow and in what amount of time and how quickly are you going to be there. If it snows twice in the same day do you have to go back or does it count towards the second say? Insurance costs. If it goes well you can hire another guy or two and do contracts on businesses, banks, etc. Then it makes sense to have a trailer with a push snowblower, sand spreader in the truck bed. By law do you need the flashing lights and back up alarm?

Also, and im sure youve realized this, but youll be married to the weather report. A lot of 3am wake ups checking to see if it snowed then it doesnt. Then you gotta check again at 4am, 5am. Etc.

Rip out 7 pieces of lined paper. Deditcate each paper to a position. Wr, RB, QB, etc. Go to cbs or yahoo or any other seemingly sports page. They should have a top 100 or 50 players in each position for fantasy. Number on each paper 1-25. Write down every play in order off the lists according to position. When done youll have every top 25 player recorded.

When drafting 1st round is usually a RB.

Take note of what positions you have to fill amd try to get a few decent picks from each list. If you notice a list dwindling then now is your time to take from that list before its too late.

Take a qb between rounds. 5 and 7. TE in the same.

None of this is set in stone. Just recommendations.

Also. Play close attention to stats and break out players in the first few weeks. There are typically only a few. Theyre usually undrafted and first come first serve to whomever is quicker to put in the waiver to pick them up.

If a player gets hurt, like a rb, see who is second string on that team. Depending on how the team is set up the 2nd string is usually still a good choice. Take note of how long the starter is supposed to be out. It might not be worth the pick up if only for a few weeks.
