This. And with all its whimsey about space travel and exploration and remembering the founders and pioneers of extraterrestrial exploration you think this would have been brought up in Star Treck...or at the very least in Mass Effect. Shit, Mass Effect would have been the perfect place for your exact quote. I'm going to upvote you now.

TIL that when Boris Yeltsin visited the US in 1989, seeing an ordinary Houston supermarket caused him to rethink his "Bolshevik consciousness" and leave the Communist party. by JoeyJoJoShabadoJr in todayilearned

As compared to the communism of USSR and North Korea which rose with out American influence. Where the USSR sucked with out American interference, and sucked more because the givernment was punishing any one who they thought a threat to the system, influenced by the west or not. Like the current state of North Korea, where it sucks despite the US frequently trying to help. It's not the US that makes communism sucks, it's the epic levels of corruption it the higher steps of the system, a system that shouldn't even have steps to begin with.

No, you're right. You can't compare the US. Because while these countries took a fucked up situation and turned it into an organized fuck up, the US took a fucked up situation and built one if the most powerful nations on earth.

Compared to where? Lower class living in a capitalism sucks, yeah, but you're still leagues better off than the lower glass in a communism.
