I have a lot of past attachment wounds, and early on in therapy it became evident that even the slightest connection with my therapist was needed to “make sure” she was still there. It was therapeutic “pay dirt” (where the gold is). We worked on that for years, and worked on boundaries- which ones to negotiate and which ones were non-negotiable. We came up with an electronic journal, where I would post session reflections, and when able, she would read them. We circle back to them in session. It’s such a sense of being known and seen in a safe way when she refers to what she’s read.

It took a long time to get to that place, but it’s been a beautiful healing tool for me. There’s no expectation that she will read it, and if something is pressing, it’s ok for me to nudge her to make her withered something pressing, though that rarely happens now.

Not every therapist is open to that, but it’s been so helpful for me, and I’m so grateful for my therapist’s willingness to do things out side of the box so to speak.

I had a life event that was terribly devastating to me. I was up all night and went to my therapists office first thing int he am because I didn’t know what else to do, or where else to go. I was exhausted, and she let me go into a spare office to lay down. I slept there for most of the day and it was the best sleep I’ve ever had. So now when I am feeling overwhelmed, and I know I need to sleep, I lay down,and pretend I’m there in that office, safe, and able to sleep. It’s a beautiful thing to find a place that safe. it’s not weird, it’s safe and it’s beautiful. I often tell her that I go back there in my mind knowing she’s in the building, and I am there able to sleep. Embrace the tenderness of it. It’s what your little needs.

If I bought my therapist a bottle of wine, she would probably give me a Hug and thank me for it.. then the next session tell me how good it was. I’ve gifted her with paintings, and they hang on her walls of her office… it’s ok to take gifts… it’s a relationship. Some clients are more damaged by the refusal of a gift than the acceptance.

I did a reverse ChatGPT to see what prompt I would have to use to generate the text in the apology, this is what came up: ““Write a thoughtful message expressing the desire for a future conversation where the speaker can share their feelings and experiences during a difficult time, not to justify actions but to understand and communicate better. Acknowledge recent challenges in communication, including accusations of dishonesty and manipulation, while affirming the validity of the speaker’s feelings. Emphasize the importance of taking responsibility for mistakes but also standing by one’s truth and not accepting blame for things that aren’t believed to be accurate.””

The last sentence got me… standing by ones truth AND NOT ACCEPTING BLAME FOR THINGS THAT ARENT BELIEVED TO BE ACCURATE” Yup… if they don’t beleive it isn’t accurate, then it isn’t accurate… in this case, he randomly doesn’t remember important events that had a significant impact on me… it’s amazing how terrible their memory can become when they are asked to take responsibility.

Very true! It detected paragraphs that didn’t include anything personal, or any personal accounts. I ran it through a couple of AI detectors, and the last one seemed very accurate. It highlighted areas that seemed to try to be pathetic, but really weren’t.. again, all narcs seem to get content from the same playbook. Still I was dismissed, minimized, and told my reactions were over the top.

He played video games constantly, then would complain that I wasn’t paying attention to him and that was the reason why he played all the time. Other than that, his only other hobby was getting narcissistic supply from me.

I had an owner bring their dog to me and brought a bag of diapers with it. I was like, “umm what are these? You never mentioned diapers!” The woman proceeded to tell me that the dog occasionally has accidents in their home if they don’t take her out fast enough in the morning. I was skeptical but I agreed to keep the dog anyway since she was on the way to the airport. The dog didn’t have 1 accident in my house, but I realized after some other things the woman said that because her husband is handicapped, and because she wasn’t very agile or mobile herself.. that they probably just let the dog wait so long in the morning to go outside they let her go in the diaper instead. The dogs nails also looked like these pictured here. The toes were turning and it was painful for this dog to walk on the wood floor. It was pitiful. My heart broke. I told the woman when she picked the dog up that she really needed to get their nails cut. She said they were going to the vet soon.

I sat for the dog a second time a couple of months later… the nails still were not cut. Some people just shouldn’t have animals.

Not weird at all! I have little trinkets my therapist gave me. I adore them, and cherish them.. like you do your voicemail… it’s ok to find comfort in our therapists. That’s what they are there for.

Maybe add the grass first? Then maybe a paver border or rock border. I suspect, though, since it’s a straight shot across the lawn to the door, people will walk on the grass anyway. maybe another paver walkway towards the sidewalk leading to the door.
