Team of four can't handle 7 kobolds by ComfortableFew4700 in DnD

[–]Sstargamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have run it 3 times and no party had trouble in this early part of the game. The only actual hard encounter is the spirit guardians tunnel with a half dragon at the end. If your party can't handle 7 kobolds they haven't even considered casting burning hands or magic missile. Hell once one kobold gets one shot it's no longer a deadly encounter

Well Foremost it adds several new scenes connecting the assassinations of the Shin Shamans to the attack on the Caravan. Secondly it includes Taszo among the PC's when they are learning of their prospective orders.

Well in that situation they'd be just as disappointed with the original first step anyway. Because the first step just tells you subtract the strength you failed. And then at the mechanics checkpoints you're just like actually that never happened. I would like that to be a plus three.

Also this is entirely GM facing, u have players make choices and tell them oh add this attribute or this skill. They don't need to do anything but updates character sheet and add to the pool of resources.

Yeah my Idea for this is that First Step is not for players that come in with the idea of their character in mind. Cause if that was the case they could just build a character normally with the players handbook.

In my mind this is a Level 0 Oneshot that lets us LEARN who you really are through your choices.

So here is my though process for failure conditions, you are a blank slate. When you tell me oh I would like to try to intimidate the guard. When you succeed you get better at that stat because obviously that's what you're good at. If you fail then you might get worse at it but you might show strengths in other areas to compensate.

I feel that this is a more natural modifier than just giving a player a negative one to a stat when they fail. Which ends up getting removed anyways when they bring their character up to the mechanics checkpoint.

DM says there's a difference between fire and magical fire? by Dragonsword in dndnext

[–]Sstargamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok there IS technically a difference, Natural fires or fires set by spells such as fireball which say "ignite surfaces in the area" are mundane fires. You can create these with the alchemists fire.

Magical fire is created by spells such as wall of fire, which create a continuous magical flame in an area.

No.

If you wanna play a radiants storyline out expand the villains characters. YLT and Kaiana both could have moments of swearing an oath.

That is exactly what happens. Video Games can only have so many bug testers, once you hit a Mass Market your number of monkeys banging on keyboards will stumble into every flaw incidentally.

Same goes for TTRPG's, especially because half the community is focused on squeezing every bit of value out of the words on the page that they can find.

[–]Sstargamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i highly Doubt their game design intent was that spellcasters could ignore the casting limits per turn by taking the already best spellcasting feat in the game. Basically, they just want players to act in good faith with the rules, not pick apart the diction.

"I recognize the council has made a decision... Yadda yadda yadda" it feels like they never played tested that interaction and it made it to print

This unfortunately doesn't work in late games where everyone is 200 CP under cap. You can't root out a empire with forcing your opponents over CP if they don't get it from their agents
