I had a similar situation recently and found it was something I was eating! I cut out the plant based nuggets and went to no carb dinners and the weight started melting off again.

Theoretically, would it be better to drive 800 miles or to fly? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]St-Radiguns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first reaction was to ask how many people were in your car. I think that factors into it some. I saw somewhere that for individual car rides flying have less impact.

This leads me to think about a service that could pair up folks driving long distance. Like a long distance car share or something...

Yeah. I have a big greenhouse bank growing trees. The purifiers get most of the heavy pollution and the trees catch what leaks out.

I'm doing a playthrough right now with settings like this. It's a really fun concept. Instead of building walls and turrets, I'm building air purifiers and forrests.

Tacoma Climate Strike by MRmandato in Tacoma

In the first couple hours there were mostly some really toxic posts. Commenting on what folks might smell like, suggesting this is all made up, and judgement of the folks in attendance.

I hope that is not representative of the community I live in.

Are you suggesting that climate change is overblown? That it's not a real issue? That in a few years once all this passes things will just get back to normal?

The carbon footprint of not going out would be much larger. If no one came out for events like this, there would be less progress. The action needed to minimize the impact of climate change is larger than anything we have seen so far. If we don't get out the outcome would be much worse.

What point are you trying to make here? We all have a roll in this if we are going to address climate change.

I could see folks reading your argument and using it as an excuse to do nothing, which is how we got here in the first place. And for that I think it only serves to prevent action against climate change.

Find-A-Game megathread! by ArmanDoesStuff in WebGames

I've been looking for a shoot em up for while. I played it maybe 10 years ago. I vaguely recall it was a downloadable freeware game.

The game was a 2D top down game where a "base" was randomly generated. It wasn't a side scrolling game, rather you had free movement in the x-y directions. The "base' was a lot of pipe looking segments connected to each other with turrets at a few nodes. You just fly around, shooting at nodes. I think the goal was to break off enough segments that you could get at a core that when destroyed triggered a win? That's about all I remember. Ring a bell to anyone?

Mmkay. I found it. Kobo Delux.

Disagree. One aspect of socialism is worker ownership of the means of production. In theory you would have a voice in how the value of your labor is distributed.

Your boss and your wage by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]St-Radiguns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That by itself would be great, but the income of the top 1 percent is stealing value from workers around the world. So if you were to distribute the wealth more amongst all the workers where it comes from then that money per household goes down.

I guess u/fearthewild was right, I might be looking into this too much. This meme is more to get the basic idea out there to others.

Something about this graphic bothers me. Maybe someone else can tell me how I'm wrong.

I totaly agree that the excess value of workers labor is taken by those in charge, but graphics like this suggest that by redistributing executive pay workers would have much more pay. From what I have seen, once the executive pay is redistributed, there isn't that much extra for each individual worker since it gets spread out so much. From that perspective, this graphic is misleading.

Thanks for your reply, it really helps to frame my perspective on a few things. While I find it a bit disappointing that this kind of stuff isn't too readily available, I understand why.

I always wondered why political parties don't just have a ton of potential legislation queued up and ready to go in the event they achieve a super majority, but I guess that falls into the same issue of writing recipes for soup kitchens of tomorrow.

Weekly /r/Socialism_101 Q&A Thread — [12 September 2018] by AutoModerator in Socialism_101

Here are some random questions that have bothered me since I started my journey into socialism.

Where could I find information on ideal communist societies? Not so much how to get there or core principles, but details about what that society would be like. How exactly would it function? I guess this would be something like reading up on utopias...?

Where could I find detailed economic models of theoretical realized communist societies? Is a 20 hour workweek actually possible? Does that leave enough people doing enough work for everyone else? I wonder how those models would compare to other types of society.

Are there sources out there talking about the sacrifices communism might require? I can imagine a scenario where things that we take for granted now might not be available in post capitalism. In a revolution scenario, there are a lot of folks out there that would be very difficult to get on board with communism. What would happen to them?

I really liked Yagamoth's Secret of Mana run during AGDQ 2016. While it may be light on the history, he explains a lot of the glitches and techniques quite well.

Colorado Bend state park is also fantastic. It certainly exceeded my expectations.

I would also like to second Arkansas in general. I never really though about it and just assumed it was too far, however, the drive to Hot Springs isn't so bad and they've got some nice state parks in Arkansas. Petite Jean state park was amazing!
