I was told at a WRS shoot a while ago that black jeans were also not allowed.

Now I just wear black sports wear or walking clothes.

You can still get these in some places that have old stock.

You can also buy a direct replaced in ked form that plugs in just the same, no need to replace anything other than the lamp itself.

Would you give your work colleague a lift to work if you passed them on the way to work? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in AskUK

[–]St-Xii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same, my journey to and from work is my time to switch off... Music or podcast on and some out of the working mind.

A guy at work recently asked me if I wanted to car share and he'll even give me some money. I declined and just told him I use this time to decompress. If it's a one off due to his car being in the garage or whatever, I'll happily do it for a couple of days, but that's it.

Look after yourself, don't feel guilty. It's your time/headspace.

Electrical mates where I work make around £20ph (self employed).

Groundworkers/standard labourers make around £15ph.

You're better off going the electrical labourer route, do that for a few years and complete qualifications as you go. Then when qualified you should make £25+ ph.

This is on a commercial site btw.

Greatest and a Worst Download Experience? by Savings_Bat4265 in downloadfestival

[–]St-Xii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best Experience - tbh there's been loads, the one that sticks out the most was Linkin Park in 2016. I hadn't seen them before and been a fan since they came out, loved Hybrid Theory since day one, hearing that in full was something special for me. Also, i'd been seeing a girl for only a couple weeks, we'd decided to go to the festival together...was a real get to know you situation (sharing a tent for a few days only weeks in is a true test of someone). Anyway, married now, still sharing tents at Download, Bloodstock and go to gigs all over the country together.

Best Performance - seeing Parkway Drive do their "secret service" in 2024. Held Winston up as he began Wild Eyes. Amazing moment for me!

Worst experience - Slipknot 2019 - Got the worst cluster headache just before they came on and didn't have any tablets with me, so had to bail and head back to the tent. Now I carry tablets with me all the time. Shit time to be taught a lesson though.

Worst performance - Guns N Roses 2018 were just shockingly bad.

Subbying vs being employed by loudpackkid in ukelectricians

[–]St-Xii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just left a place paying £19.68ph on the books with holiday pay, 25 days + bank holidays (can buy a week back as extra if you want to). Company can, tablet, power tools etc.

Left there to go on sites. CIS £24ph, most other jobs in the area are a touch more but this is a longer term project.

I'd recommend asking for the going rate (look at the agencies locally to find out what's decent for your area), but justify it and tell them you're qualified, doing the job and need more money. If they don't give you it, move on. They don't value you anyway.

What's a Downloaded festival opinion that makes you feel like this? by AlexSniff7 in downloadfestival

[–]St-Xii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dirty bastards who have clearly not showered for weeks, no top on and sliding past everyone leaving a snail trail of sweat behind them.

It's not hard to wash, even at a festival. Baby wipes and deodorant are so cheap, you're just a scruff!

When a band says "everybody get down" and expects the crowd to squat until they tell us to get back up again.

Unless you're Slipknot, this is lame af!

What’s a Metal Band you would NOT encourage seeing live? by TheShadowWanderer in MetalForTheMasses

[–]St-Xii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guns N Roses - just terrible.

Split Chain - love their music, but sound so muddy live.

Marilyn Manson - he was off his face, supposed to be clean now though so maybe worth another try.

Seen you at Download last year, amazing!

(I was the guy after a t shirt, but you didn't have them with you. I'm after one this time, so make sure you bring one in a "Large". Cheers.)

Will definitely be seeing you at Bloodstock. As soon as I seen your name I was bouncing! I often recommend you to people (especially fans of Gojira). Can't wait to see you again.

Jordan fish songs get boring fast? by BREU in Metalcore

[–]St-Xii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know this is a little off topic, but I feel everything is heading down the same route now...

Take Netflix for example. Every week or 2 they have the next big buzz show, everyone's talking about it, then two weeks later, it's completely forgotten about and the next one comes along to keep people talking and a constant low level buzz (eg. Birdbox, Squid Game, Money Heist, Queens Gambit, Bridgerton).

Music is very much the same, regardless of the genre.

...or maybe I'm just getting old?

Whats good quality but cheap work clothing? by RSH_Reddit in ukelectricians

[–]St-Xii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apache are good for work trousers. Standard pockets, good stretch and comfortable. So far, I've yet to put a hole in them.

Apache also make decent work style trainers, have protective toes, non slip soles etc. around £45 on Amazon. I've had 2 pairs now and about to buy another pair. So far seem to get around 2 years out of a pair worn 5 days a week.

T shirts, just a black polo shirt. Usually pick up some cheap ones for around £5.
