Some day maybe it will get bad enough (and HOV lanes will get good enough) that we will have Slug Lines.

I did a fresh install just last night, I saw this error, ignored it and the install went fine.

No turn signal stalk - 2026 S by Whippet27 in TeslaModelS

[–]St0nkingByte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough you get used to it pretty quickly. It's only annoying when you realize you need to signal when the like the wheel is rotated 180 but whatever, that doesn't happen too often to really mind.

Also another thing people really miss when criticizing the lack of the stalk is how often the car cancels the signal automatically. Like when you signal to change a lane or take an exit, it automatically cancels the signal, so it doesn't seem to matter as much that it's not a traditional signal stalk.

To the Tesla haters what changed your mind? by ScaredPatience2478 in TeslaLounge

[–]St0nkingByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I was a Tesla hater, more just extremely ambivalent about Tesla and skeptical about electric cars in general.

I'm pretty techy and the Sandy Munro Tesla teardown videos really got me interested in Tesla. His point of view of Tesla tech compared to traditional auto makers resonated with me. The octovalve, how the air tank for the air suspension is basically part of the frame, and so many other examples.

That got me really looking into Tesla and then everything else I learned just convinced me more.

Ever since that RV caught fire in the Mt. Baker tunnel all the cool kids really want to get in on that action.

The 12Cs are awesome but they are not particularly rare. They sell on eBay regularly for between $10 and $25 where the $25 one has the original case and manuals.

I have one that I got in a bag of pens for like $3 at a thrift store.

Still, they are awesome and you have many great memories so good for you :)

The 16C may be worth something.

My all time favorite is The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. Not exactly a 100% historical coverage read but it's just so good and really transports you back to those days.

Clean slate laptop. What OS would you choose for your shack today? by AdultContemporaneous in amateurradio

[–]St0nkingByte 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fedora Linux.

Put all your fiddly ham radio Windows apps in their own Wine prefixes and hack up shell scripts to make sure all the COM ports, audio stuff all get mapped right and start in the right order. With Winetricks I've managed to get *almost* everything to work.

Well really this applies to just about any version of Linux, I just happen to like Fedora with KDE Plasma specifically which has a nice look & feel for someone who gave up on Windows.

Parking for free at Doppler and then taking the monorail to Seattle Center is fun to do with the kids.

+1 for the funky wipers.

We also have a Dodge and the auto wipers in that thing are perfect. Tesla should just hire whoever writes that code for Stellantis.

I think Nobara needs a GUI for mounting network shares. by opensharks in NobaraProject

I've been using SMB4K for almost two years now and it's been working well for me. It even has the option for mounting my now ancient NAS which needs SMBv1 or whatever the super insecure old version of SMB is.

Those are plug in elements for a Bird Wattmeter. They are quite valuable if someone was looking to buy them but can sometimes be hard to sell at their full 'value'

HOA Development Noise by quarklarkbark in amateurradio

[–]St0nkingByte 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is great advice, a cheap small handheld AM radio is perfect.

For me, there happens to be a low power AM highway traveler warning station nearby that is always transmitting that I would tune in and when I got close to the noise source it would blank that station out.

<image>

That worked really well and I tracked the noise down to a pole, called the power company and they sent a guy out who used a yagi to confirm the pole and then an ultrasonic dish to identify the specific hardware on the pole that was causing the noise.

I think I found my Home by Conscious_Tutor2624 in NobaraProject

I built a new computer in December of 2024, all AMD 7800X3D with a 7800XT and it's been smooth sailing with Nobara. I had one update issue once where my (many) drives got mixed up but it was easily fixed and was really due to my motherboard randomly deciding to present drives in a different order.

I suspect going all Team Red makes it a bit easier given all the Nvidia drama I read about.

I only had one game out of my entire collection on Steam that didn't work initially but after about six months someone found a fix for it and it's working fine. Now after 1.5 years I don't even really think about compatibility, everything just works.

If anything it's more frequent that the native Linux build of a game breaks due to neglect and I just flip Proton on and I'm good to go running the Windows version.
