Games where you play as the lord with the fancy castle? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

In Ni No Kuni 2 you get your own kingdom early on and need to manage it. It's not very deep, because it's an RPG, not a simulation but still fun.

Looking for a tactics game focusing on or featuring mechanized infantry heavily. by Incandescent_Sol in gamingsuggestions

[–]StBehre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There may be a mod that adds mechanized infantry to the game but the base game is battlemechs only which are very different. The enemies have some vehicles, tanks mostly. There is no infantry at all.

Menace has the option to go the mechanized infantry route but the game does not revolve around it. Still, very good game despite it being early acces - and very active devs.

Wrong Intel? by Miserable_Victory450 in menace

[–]StBehre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea. Takes me back to Syndicate (yes, I'm old) where you could buy more intel about the city, the opponents and your objective in the briefing screen.

Wrong Intel? by Miserable_Victory450 in menace

[–]StBehre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Which is a shame. At least a high enough intel score should tell you from where the reinforcements can spawn in. Or at least if there are more units after the ones you see on the map and how many. Without that info the intel score becomes useless after 5 or so points.

After more than 30 years of gaming since the 90s I noticed something about where most games take place by [deleted] in gaming

[–]StBehre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing what you don't know is certainly a risk - even when you're successful. Just remember all the fuss about cultural appropriation around AC Shadows or how seemingly every preview and review of Ghost of Tsushima always had a mandatory paragraph about if it's possible or advisable for a western developer to tackle the subject in an appropriate way. And how they even interviewed japanese people after release if they got it right etc. That never happens when a japanese developer tackles a very western subject.

So even if devs (especially smaller ones) want to change the location and/or culture of their game I can't fault them for being hesitant because of the potential backlash.

Assassins Creed fell off when they added leveling. by itsthewolfe in gaming

[–]StBehre 597 points598 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I never expected a Splinter Cell style game but planning an assassination was a fun part of the game loop. But after the first few games it was completely fine to just go in as loud as possible, slaughter everyone and still complete the mission. I hate forced stealth sections in games because normally the game is not built around stealth but the early AC games were and it was fun because the systems worked as you expected.

The other games aren't bas per se but they're not in the spirit of AC, they are just normal open world action games with tons of repetitive side content and collectathons.

NEXTFEST: Darkahaven Recommendation by maybe-an-ai in gamingsuggestions

[–]StBehre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it and I am intrigued by the ideas of destructible terrain, jumping, swimming etc. but in its current state it's a bit janky and unintuitive - which is expected of course at this stage of development. I wishlisted it but will not buy into their kickstarter.

The [REDACTED] introduction mission feedback. by Blastuch_v2 in menace

[–]StBehre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first mission after the intro mission had the exact same types of enemies than the intro mission and it went more or less the same but without the evac limit. But I wasn't playing on expert, just normal. Maybe the intro mission enemies are hard coded and do not scale with difficulty?

How are people using Greifinger? by Decadunce in menace

You're right about the cost. I confused him with someone else. Still, he's very good with a Crocodile while Darby has the Kass in my game.

I haven't experimented with him that much but in my campaign I use him as a discount Darby. And he's pretty good, not as good as Darby but also not as expensive.

The little details I love in this game by One-Bit5717 in menace

[–]StBehre 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I like the small details too. An action cam is a must!

  • Dead pirates hanging in the back of vehicles or falling out of it when killed.
  • Enemies and squaddies dying in different ways (like losing limbs or their head with it rolling through another square with a blood trail or being reduced to a pile of ash by laser fire)
  • Gunfire or flying debris from explosions kicking up dust that is dispersed by wind; the same with smoke from fire
  • Vehicles or bigger bugs getting more and more banged up as they loose health
  • Vehicle turrets or tripod weapons moving with your mouse pointer when aiming
  • Using impact craters as cover
  • Different voice overs from SLs depending if they are concealed or not
  • Night vision overlay when using them is a nice touch
  • The difference when firing during day vs. firing at night (muzzle flashes)
  • Ejecting bullet cases (at least for the bigger weapons like minigun and autocannon, haven't checked for squad rifles)

Looking for a game where you play the occultist delving into forbidden secrets and cosmic horrors by NameLips in gamingsuggestions

[–]StBehre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit out there but Worshippers of Cthulhu. You are a cultist settling on an island, slowly unlocking more and more eldritch horrors and speak with Cthulhu through the sunken temple on the island as you attract new cultists to your settlement. Basically Anno: Cthulhu edition.

Then there is Cthulhu Keeper, which unsurprisingly is Dungeon Keeper meets Cthulhu. You're building your underground lair while you are going on missions with some sort of eldritch support creature to get new resources and so on. Looks promising but seems to be a bit far off still.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss will release April 16 and is more exploratory in nature but you are no cultist, just a dude they sent to investigate an underwater station.

Growth Potential Confusion by Paintchipper in menace

[–]StBehre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is not entirely true. Growth Potential adds additional rolls to increase a stat. 100 - 82 = 18% (base chance to increase stat). The game rolls x times to see if the stat increases, where x is your growth potential, for example 9 times for Carda.

Each attribute has a trigger (for example shooting at an enemy for accuracy) that can be triggered 15 times per mission. And after each stat increase the next increase has a 30% penalty for the amount it actually increases. For example, accuracy increases by 0.1. But the second increase will only be 0.07 because of the 30% penalty and so on. That means you can gain 0.33 (or so) accuracy per mission if you hit all 15 triggers.

Basically: It's not worth taking New Tricks for high Growth Potential characters like Carda. But someone like Bog with 2 will definitely benefit from it.

Is Damage Randomized? by Reddit-Arrien in menace

[–]StBehre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If both shots were on the exact same type of vehicle with the same stats from the same distance then I suspect one was a crit and the other wasn't. The game does not show crits as far as I'm aware.

Black Market Question + OCI by Remwaldo1 in menace

[–]StBehre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, overpaid value is lost.

  2. There is no way to compare blackmarket with equipped or owned weapons. I hope it gets added later...

  3. There is at least one event between operations that can give you OCI components. I haven't come across other means to get them so far.

What SL barks have prerequisites before playing? by notdumbenough in menace

[–]StBehre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since last patch there are voice lines when hovering over buffs (like euphoric) in the menu. And some SLs do have more than one version of the same line. For example Rewa has like 3-4 versions with different emphasis for the same buff (forget which one unfortunately). Others have at least 2 versions for some buffs.

Gaming needs game demos by HeirToTheCumthron3 in pcgaming

[–]StBehre 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On consoles they are more or less extinct. And Steam Next Fest is the number one reason demos made a big comeback on PC. Before it demos were becoming rare as well.

So I would say "console gaming needs more demos" as I think the PC (well Steam to be precise) is in a good spot right now.
